What students say about Government Engineering College - [GEC] Barton Hill

Likes

  • 3 years (6 semesters) after diploma and 4 years (8 semesters) after plus two, University exams are held at the end of each semester. Industrial visits take place after 3 years. Campus placements occur after the 7th semester. There are good academic facilities. There is an excellent training program. The infrastructure is good. There are good entertainment programs.
  • Students may also pursue internships by applying on their own, and the college will provide duty leaves for them.
  • The placement cells in our college are really good, with almost 80% of students in our department getting placed every year.
  • All famous and reputed banks offer loans, so there is nothing to worry about. Almost all of them get placed. It has been a superb 4 years of my life, I must say.
  • Campus life is so wonderful compared to school life. Here, we have no restrictions on doing anything.
  • From what I have heard, the rooms are good, and the food is also excellent.
  • One of the best colleges in Trivandrum when considering the rate of investment and also the level of pedagogy.

Dislike

  • College does not provide internships; we have to find them ourselves. If we request permission from the principal, there is a small chance we might be granted it.
  • College has no mens hostel; only girls hostel is available on the college campus. They have shared accommodation with lower rent and an average mess facility. The colleges infrastructure is also average. Since there is no mens hostel, boys have to search for private accommodations

Placement Experience:

The campus placements start at the end of the third year for each branch and throughout the final year, various companies arrive for interviews. The major companies which seek freshers from our college are IBM, Microsoft, TCS, Wipro, IBS, QBurst, etc. The average package offered is around 6 to 8 LPA. Prior to these interviews, proper placement training is provided to the students where they compete against each other in various rounds such as GD, HR interview, Aptitude round, etc. The percentage of placements varies according to each branch. The IT department is the one which bags the most number of interviews where around 80% to 90% of the students are offered jobs.

Remarks:

The admission process was quite simple and the staff present there were very helpful. The help desk present at the entrance of the administrative block was helpful and they provided us with the application form and helped me fill it out as well. The college had provided us with a list of all the documents required at the time of admission. Therefore, there were doubts regarding the same. The officials present in the office would then guide us through the process and tell us the details of the fee structure. Overall, I don't see any improvement required in the admission process.
