Regional Institute of Education, Mysore is one of the five institutions established by NCERT in 1963. The institute offers various Undergraduate, Postgraduate, PhD and diploma courses. It offers B.A B.Ed and B.Sc. B.Ed courses at undergraduate, M.Ed and M.Sc.Ed at postgraduate and PhD in Education, Psychology and Botany at doctorate level. It also offers diploma courses. 

There are 4 departments namely the Department of Education (DE), which is the core department of the Institute, the Department of Education in Science and Mathematics (DESM), Department of Education in Social Science and Humanities (DESSH), Department of Extension Education (DEE). 

The admission in all the courses is done based on the NCERT-CEE entrance exam followed by an interview where the CEE score has 60% weightage and aggregate marks (concerned subjects) obtained in the last qualifying exam has 40% weightage. If there is a tie, weightage is given to the Teaching Aptitude Test score, followed by age of the applicant. Application mode is online except for PhD programs. 

RIE Mysore has a marvelous record of 100% campus placement in the last few years. With every passing year, there has been an increase in the number of students placed through campus recruitment activity.

To help the needy and meritorious students, the institute grants scholarships based on the academic and extracurricular activity records of the students. The scholarships are available for all the SC/ ST students and 50% of other category students. The scholarship is linked to student attendance. In order to continue the scheme, the student has to clear all the papers of the previous two semesters.

  • Admissions to all the courses except MSc.Ed is restricted to candidates having domicile of the states of Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and the Union Territories of Pondicherry and Lakshadweep, as per the quota assigned for each state and UT. Admission to MSc.Ed. is on an all India basis.
  • For the children of Defence employees, the domicile is considered based on the place of location of the State Board/CBSE/College/University from where they pass their qualifying examinations.
  • The total B.Sc.Ed fees for the first year is INR 30660 for general category candidates of other states apart from Karnataka.
  • There are also reserved seats as per the rules of NCERT and Government of India.

Regional Institute of Education, Mysore Scholarships 

Regional Institute of Education, Mysore offers financial assistance to the candidates in the form of scholarships and education loans. Some of the scholarships are given below:

  • Students belonging to SC & ST are provided scholarships, but he/she should not receive any other financial assistance from different sources other than this.
  • 50% of the students are awarded merit-based scholarships as per the rules of the institute. The amounts received are:
    • INR 800 per month for BSc.Ed, BA.Ed and MSc.Ed (I to VIII semesters)
    • INR1200 per month for MSc.Ed. (IX to XII semesters) and MEd.
    • 20% of the remaining students are awarded freeship as per rules.
