St Agnes Teacher Training for Special Education was established in the year of 1992 in Mangalore. The college is recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). It is a study center of the National Program of Indira Gandhi National Open School (IGNOU). It offers Foundation Course on Education of Children with Disabilities in Distance Mode and the duration of the course is three months. The aim of the course is to prepare the trainee teacher to screen, assess, educate and train persons with mental retardation in individual or group settings.

The objective of the college is to equip trainees with the skills so that they can train and educate mentally challenged children through quality education or to prepare well balanced teachers.
