For each new batch, there is a fee hike of 10% from the previous batch, which is fine as per national standards. But when we see it in numbers, It feels very high. When this continues, people will feel extreme difficulties affording the fees in the next 10 years. Being Lower middle class financially, It's difficult for us too. There are scholarships and fee waivers but most people won't be able to avail of them. The tuition fee waiver is only for those belongings to SC/ST. KVPY provides a monthly stipend for its scholars which is around 5-7000 per month but I don't think there are any KVPY scholars in my class. There is another scholarship scheme by DST called INSPIRE that provides 5000 per month to very few students. The cutoff for INSPIRE goes around 96-97% for the CBSE board and similar for other boards. Also, you won't be eligible for INSPIRE if you are a dropper. Of the 200 students in my class, there are around 10-11 INSPIRE scholars. There is no Fee waiver for economically weak people.
Every year, the fee structure of each IISER has been hiked by 10%. BS-MS students admitted in the following year(Gen, EWS, OBC-NCL, KM) pay Rs 43,400/- in 2020, Rs 49,400/- in 2021, and Rs 54,400/- in 2022, whereas students admitted (SC, ST) pay Rs 10,000/- in 2020, Rs 16,000/- in 2021, and Rs 17,500/- in 2022. IISER Bpr does not offer scholarships, but students in the top 1% of any admission or board examination receive a DST-INSPIRE award. Students are compensated for their research work or research internships at the institute or some other institute.
The fee structure is quite minimal in our college. IISER Berhampur charges a total of 54,200 rupees per semester which includes hostel fees, tuition fees, etc. The mess fees have to be separately paid which accounts for Rs. 3600 for a 30-day month and Rs. 3720 for a 31-day month. The semester fees keep increasing per year by approximately Rs. 5000. So, a student has to spend approximately 1.5 lakh rupees per year which include both semester fees and the mess fees. Our college provides scope for Inspire scholarship. Under this scholarship, a student gets Rs. 5000 per month and an additional Rs. 20,000 if the student performs any offline internships in the academic year. There are 2 conditions for getting this scholarship. Firstly, one shall be a fresher when he/she takes admitted to IISER college, and secondly, he/she shall be among the top 1% in 12th board result in his/her respective state board or central board. Our campus does not provide scope for any direct jobs after BS-MS.
Yeah, the fee is a little bit High. But it's not higher than other institutes like IITs. As it's a central government institute the fees should be lesser. Whatever you have to adjust with it. After taking admission here you can apply for inspire scholarship. You can also apply on the NSP portal.
There is a huge cost of studies ( approx 5lakhs in the whole course), but you can get inspire scholarship. If you are compatible, you can apply for paid internships. I know many such persons in my college who are continuing their studies from their own internships. Else you can handle online freelancing jobs.
There are three channels to get admissions from- IAT, KVPY, and JEE Advanced, with 25% seats for KVPY and JEE and the rest for IAT. Eligibility to appear in these exams (JEE, IAT): Fresh 12th graduate or dropper for 1 year. One can find the application form, fees, and dates by checking the official IISER admissions website. The portal opens around April each year. This year (2023), the application portal will open on 15th April and the entrance examination (IAT) is scheduled to be on 17 June. You can check the NTA website for JEE dates and the KVPY website for the KVPY exam. I suggest going for IAT as it's the easiest exam among these three and also reserves the highest number of seats.
BDBy - Bindusmita DasAdmission to any IISER involves clearing one of two entrance exams, JEE Advanced or IAT. To apply for the SCB channel (IAT exam), a student must belong to the top 20% of their particular board in their 10+2. Application forms are often available on the IISER admissions website in May or April. The following reservations are available for the exam: General, EWS, OBC/OBC-NCL, SC, ST, and KM. The cutoff for Jee adv is between 12000 to 15000 or an IAT score of 75 or higher.
DCBy - Debapriya ChatterjeeAdmission to any of the 7 IISER colleges can be obtained through 3 processes or 3 channels:- JEE advanced channel, KVPY channel, and SCB channel. If any student has obtained a rank under 15,000 in JEE Advanced, he/she can apply for admission to IISERs. In the case of the KVPY channel, if anyone has qualified KVPY in class 11 or 12, he/she can apply for admission in IISERs. In the case of the SCB channel, a student has to sit in an entrance exam named IAT or IISER Admission Test. Then, depending on his/her rank in the IAT exam, he/she gets admission to IISER colleges. A student is eligible for admission in iiser only 2 times i.e. the year in which he/she has passed his/her 12 th board exams
