The Institute of Research & Development, Gujarat Forensic Sciences University [GFSU] established in the year 2008, has been awarded four stars ranking in the Star Ranking of Gujarat State Institutional Ranking Framework (GSIRF) by Hon'ble Education Minister of Gujarat. The University started academic function in 2009, focusing on research in the area of Forensic Sciences, specifically Forensic Nanotechnology.

The Institute of Research & Development offers M.Sc., M.Tech, MS-Ph.D. and Ph.D. in various specializations. It also provides training in advanced Forensic Sciences & Medicines to government personnel.

IRD GFSU Admissions

IRD GFSU Placements

The Institute of Research & Development has a dedicated Placements Cell to make sure that students are placed at a reputed industry or organization. The cell prepares the placement brochures for the summer placements. The institute offers summer internships to its final year students. The University provides placement & career guidance cells for arranging placements for registered students in various organizations. 

The University has a tie-up with reputed companies like Orchid Research Laboratories Ltd., Merck, Synchron Research Services Pvt. Ltd., Intra Pharmaceuticals Ltd., and forensic departments in India as well as abroad. Apart from reputed companies or industries, students are also offered placements by IIT Gandhinagar, Government Mental Hospitals and Military College, Nashik.

IRD GFSU Scholarships

The University has introduced Swiss Government Research Scholarships [Ph. D. Scholarships, Postdoctoral Scholarships, and Research Fellowships] for Indian students. 

The overseas scholarship program like Think-Swiss Asia-Pacific is a scholarship program managed by Swissnex India and the Embassies of Switzerland in Australia & in Singapore supports students enrolled at Indian, Australian and Singapore universities who want to go to Switzerland to conduct research.

IRD GFSU Facilities

Following are the facilities offered by the research institute to cater to the needs of the students.

  • Library: Central Library holds more than 6000 volumes, subscriptions to current journal titles and publishing houses, print collections including books and reference materials. The IRD has more than 200 publications, including research articles, reviews, and book-chapters of national & international repute. The University has a provision for three Central Instrumental Laboratories.
  • Instrument Facilities: The Institute has instrument facilities to conduct research. It provides an Atomic Force Microscope, Raman Spectrophotometer, Electroconvulsometer, Automatic Dissolution Apparatus, and much other research equipment to conduct experiments.
  • Laboratories: The Laboratories equipped with the Automated Smart HPLC System and Plethysmometer Data Acquisition System. It also has an underground Ballistic Research Center, and an intelligent laboratory.
  • Classrooms: The University has air-conditioned classrooms equipped with overhead projectors, LCD projectors, and computers with Internet facility.
  • Hostel: The University also has fully furnished hostels for both Indian and Foreign-students. The accommodation provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.

IRD GFSU Faculty

The Institute of Research and Development has three faculties, Nanotechnology, Pharmacy, and Engineering. There are a total of 9 faculty members, out of which two are associate professors, and seven are assistant professors holding a Ph.D. degree and publications in reputed books and journals. 

The full-time, permanent faculties have received research grants from the Science & Engineering Research Board and Council of Scientific & Industrial Research. The University also invites guest faculty from India and abroad.

Ques. What e-courses are run by the University?

Ans. The University runs a short term training certificate program on e-Discovery. It also provides the IBA/ RBI Approved Certified Information Security Professional Course on Cyber Security for Government Law Enforcement Agencies exclusively.

Ques. How is the placement cell of IRD-Institute of Research & Development?

Ans. The placement cell ensures that students are placed at reputed companies or organizations. The passing-out batch of Forensic Science got recruited by Forensic Science Lab in Goa, CMC India Pvt. Ltd., ICICI Lombard, and Indian Air Force. Many Forensic Psychologists selected in Central Prisons and Government Mental Hospitals of the country[8].

Ans. The University fees vary for various courses. For MS, candidates have to pay INR 50, 000 per semester (excluding other University fees). The hostel charges INR 40, 0000, and 20,000 for AC/ Non-AC rooms, respectively.
