GATE Score Calculation

GATE 2023 Score Calculation

GATE 2023 Scorecard also includes the score calculation method along with all the other details.

  • GATE score calculation of normalized marks for multi-session papers is different from the calculation of GATE Score for single session papers.
  • For multi-session subjects or papers, raw marks obtained by the candidates in different sessions are converted to Normalized marks for a particular subject.
  • The same process is repeated for the calculation of Normalized marks for all the multisession papers.
  • In the end, the raw marks for single session papers or normalized marks for multi-session papers are used for computing the GATE Score.
  • For multi-session papers, the scores are normalized before calculating the actual score because in all the sessions the difficulty level of questions could be different hence maintaining the equality in the score or avoiding the chances of giving any type of benefits to candidates normalization mention is used.

GATE Normalized Score Calculation in Multi-session Papers

The formula to calculate the normalized score is:

where,

  • Mij – actual marks obtained by jth candidate in the ith session
  • Mgt – is the average marks of the top 0.1% of the candidates considering all sessions.
  • Mgq – is the sum of mean and standard deviation marks of the candidates in the paper considering all session.
  • Mti  – is the average marks of the top 0.1% of the candidates in the ith session.
  • Miq – is the sum of the means marks and standard deviation of the ith session.

GATE Score Calculation in Single-session Papers

The formulas to calculate scores in Single-session Papers is:

  • Here the actual marks obtained in the engineering exam will only be used in determining GATE score.
  • M: marks obtained in GATE
  • Mq: Qualifying marks for general category candidate in GATE paper
  • Mt: Mean of marks of top 0.1% or top 10 (whichever is larger) of candidates who appeared for GATE (in case of multi-session papers including all sessions)
