Government Dental College was established in the year of 1969 as a small department of Dentistry at Calicut Medical College. But in 1979 the college was expanded as a Dental wing with four specialities and in 1981 it was upgraded as a full-fledged Government Dental College. The first course was started under college was a Bachelor of Dental Science (BDS) in 1982. But along with a Bachelor of Dental Science (BDS) course Government Dental College is offering Master of Dental Science (MDS) in Prosthodontics, Conservative Dentistry, Periodontics, Orthodontics and Oral Pathology.

The mission of the college is to impart and improve the oral health care of the population. The college is the most modern and best equipped comparable to any of the sophisticated dental colleges of India. All the hospital clinical equipment is being updated by the college regularly so that students can gain the experience with the help of modern facilities.
