Ques. How hard is it to get admission into Pondicherry University for an MSc in statistics?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 29 Sept 21

Ans. Actually, it is quite the contrary. It is quite easy to convert to Pondicherry University even if you are a little serious about your studies.  The university conducts its own entrance test every year. You need to clear the test to get admission here. For the test, you need to be moderately prepared (depending on the level of the student) and practice the last 4-5 years of the question paper. The level is easy Most people aim for the IITs, IISc, and ISI Kolkata before joining this university if they do not get a chance there. You can get an idea of the level of the university. The course is good with excellent faculty and a good study environment, more freedom and no academic or social pressures. So it would be a wise decision to join here if you do not get the top colleges.Read more

Ques. Which one has got better placement and higher average packages ISI kolkata M.Stat or math and computing from any of the 5 old IITs?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 16 Sept 21

Ans. I have friends studying in ISI Kolkata and old IITs. Based on my conversations with them, I will say there is no doubt that M.stat students from ISI have better chances of landing jobs with really lucrative salaries. You will be surprised by the fact that ISI is known for its 100% placement ratio for M.Stat. This is not the case you would be able to find in any IIT whether old or new. Even if you pursue a B.tech degree from IIT Bombay (an old and reputed IIT), the institute never succeeds in maintaining a cent-percent placement record. You can even cross-check the stats from IIT Bombay’s website. Students studying mathematics and computing students from IITs, most of them are more inclined towards research careers than jobs. M.Stat degree from ISI is unique in India. The course is highly reputed and the institute itself is far ahead of most Indian institutes in the field of stats, math, and economics. Overall, ISI stands as a premier institute for fields especially related to stats, math, and economics with a 100% placement ratio.Read more

Ques. Which is better M.Sc. Statistics from Mumbai University or NMIMS?

● Top Answer By Ankita Mitra on 28 May 21

Ans. One of my cousins is studying PGD in Applied Statistics at the University of Mumbai and knows every professor from UoM Statistics Department. Here are some pros and cons of Mumbai University. Pros:  It has a qualified and highly skilled faculty. Professors have deep theoretical knowledge. The statistics department has good industry contacts. It offers good placement offers. The average salary recorded here is 8.8 LPA Cons: Professors mostly focus on theory so you will not understand the statistics of applications. Students are taught old tech software with which you cannot code SAS, R. You won’t get a chance of doing an internship as vacations are mostly spent completing projects. If you going for M.Sc at NMIMS, you will get an internship opportunity in a government organization. This will give you good exposure to the industry.  Therefore, NMIMS is better than the University of Mumbai for pursuing an MSC in Statistics. Also, you will get a good opportunity if you have completed a Masters in Statistics and solved 9 Actuarial science papers.Read more

Campus Life :

The campus life is extremely amazing since we have very less number of students, every student nearly knows everyone else personally. Students from different states come together at this institution. Even I'm from Haryana and studying here in Kolkata. The gender ratio isn't very good, around 4× more boys than girls. Not much competitions are held. Students are from various economic status too. Infact, my father's average salary is around 10-15K a month and I'm studying here far from my home since I don't need to take any monetary help from my family.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Indian Statistical Institute, generally referred to ISI, is a research institute and the curriculum is also mostly designed according to that and thus demands extremely hard work and effort to put in. But this curriculum also attracts many corporate organizations and the average payment for my batch this year also was around 20 LPA. No industrial visit is done and I don't think it's even needed.

Placement Experience :

The placements as I mentioned earlier also are the best that one can hope for. The recruitment drive is conducted around October every year and many world famous companies are a part of the drive. The placements are around 100% every year (for students who sit in placement, since everyone doesn't sit for placements and go for PHD's). No special preparation, our course is enough for that.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course is designed in a very thorough and detailed manner. The students are trained to gain deeper knowledge and understanding of the subjects and are given complete practical knowledge of how the course is to be learned and practiced to expand their learning horizon. The course also has research work involved which lets students have an idea of the ground experience of the work involved.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fees for the course is INR 40,000 for the two years of education and is very much affordable and feasible for students as the jobs which they get after the completion of their degree repays all their money invested. The students do not find it tough to pay the fees and every penny paid is worth the facilities provided by the institute.

Campus Life :

The college has no space for discrimation on any grounds and is a place of equal growth opportunities for all.The college events are very entertaining and enthusiastic and students have a great time participating in them. The college also organises many sports events for students and ensures that they participate in a good number.

Placement Experience :

The campus placements have been benefiicial for students to get placed and also many got selected for jobs in the college premises. The college opportunities are good enough to make students capable of procuring a job profile with a good pay package. The alumni have been working with reputated firms and are earning respect in exchange of the hardwork they are putting in their career.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course has a more of practical application than theoritical and provides students a chance to dive in the depth of the subjects and get involved in the research works from very basic. In the complete degree duration, the students get a very perfect idea about what and how the course is to pursue their career in it.

Campus Life :

The students study in a equal gender ratio and face no biasness of any sort .The college hads great opportunities to excel and build a strong personality by participating in events like sports meets, cultural functions and all the National days celebrated in the college.
