Securing a chance in ISB by taking the GMAT is only possible with a high score. With the 98th rank in QS and 28th in Financial Times MBA ranking 2020, Indian School of Business or ISB is an aspiration for thousands out there. Though it’s just a decade old both the campuses – Hyderabad and Mohali are ruling in terms of placement and course curriculum and are totally in congruence with IIMs. And today, we will be answering the question to ‘How tough is getting into ISB?’ by detailing about the PGP course along with the average GMAT cut off scored over the years.

What is so famous about the ISB PGP course?

The main reason behind ISB’s fame apart from all other things is, the Post Graduate Program (PGP) course which is a one year course aiming at developing the working professionals by delivering pragmatic knowledge about the contemporary business world.

ISB Average GMAT Score

The ISB average GMAT score has been floating around 710 till 2019, and it is also anticipated that the scoring trend will be stagnant for the upcoming few years too. Let us study the graph to understand more about the ISB average GMAT score.

Firstly, ISB average GMAT score has never reduced from 700 (in 2015) making it an ISB minimum GMAT score, therefore, marking the scoring trend to be higher than 700;
Secondly, the highest ISB GMAT score was witnessed in the year 2009 – 716 and the lowest in 2015 – 700.

ISB Mohali witnessed its first graduation in 2016, hence no trace of the GMAT cut off. From the above table we can note a few points:

The ISB minimum score in so many years has been 590 which was scored by someone who was apparently an outlier who got into ISB Mohali. Except for that one score, the lowest has been 600 for quite some time.
The range of GMAT score required for ISB states that there is hardly any difference in the last few years and that also states that there is no difference in standards between the two.
Coming to the highest GMAT score required for ISB, it was 780 and recently the highest has not been more than 770.

How tough is getting into ISB?

This also brings us to answer the question, ‘Can an average student get into ISB?’ and for explaining this, we will be displaying a list of applicants who have been through the process in the year 2020.

In 710 to 740 ISB GMAT score a huge 82 candidates secured admission;
The highest number of applicants (58) and the interview invitees (52) were noticed being registered at an ISB GMAT cut off of 710;
Candidates with an ISB GMAT score of 740 or above were noticed receiving the interview invites as well as the majority received admission letter;
The 740 ISB GMAT score noticed the biggest admit rate of 82% where 9 out of 11 were delivered the admission letter;
Next, the range of 690-740 ISB GMAT score range was seen getting a large number of interview invites;
In fact, this year there were few people who got admitted with the comparatively lesser marks, like the 9 applicants who scored 650 got interview calls and 4 were admitted.

Is 680 a good GMAT score for ISB?

ISB GMAT Hyderabad cut off 2018 and the ISB GMAT cut off 2019 states that the score range of 710-740 mostly receives the interview offer and even the admission letter as the conversion rate of 65%.

Scoring more than 700 in GMAT will elevate the chances of securing admission in ISB. Percentage of students getting admitted with a lower than 740 score is pretty low.

Is applying with a 650 score possible?

There is a very thin possibility to the above but if the candidate possesses exclusionary talent then they might grab a chance.

Exhibiting their past internships, training, and experience might fetch a chance. But if that also fails, the only way out is to work really hard and retake the GMAT exam for a better score.

In case you are enquiring about the CAT percentile let me clarify that ISB Hyderabad does not take into consideration CAT scores. It accepts GMAT/GRE scores only. Most importantly, the ISB Shortlisting process is profile-based. This means even with a lower percentile you can manage to get shortlisted provided you have an excellent profile. There is no fixed cutoff for GMAT. However, a 700+ GMAT score isn't a must-have for ISB if your application is strong in other areas. There is hardly any B-school in India that accepts GMAT scores for full-time MBA. IIMs, FMS, XLRI, JBIMS, IIFT, MDI, etc. are some of the institutions that accept GMAT scores. However, students applying through a foreign national quota or NRI quota are eligible for GMAT score. ISB on the other hand accepts the GMAT for its full-time program MBA program. Yes, ISB Hyderabad’s PGP program requires a minimum of 2 years of full-time paid work experience. This criteria came into force on 31st March 2016 and is still a necessity. For candidates who lack in this aspect, there is a back door entry called the Early Entry Option or the EEOs.
