How do you try to bring a practical approach towards subjects?

“Setting up experiment pedagogy and project based learning”

We have formulated a practical based theoretical curriculum prescribed by University to make it industry oriented. We try to link practical concepts to industrial approaches by designing basic experiments for students in the campus itself. We also try to innovatively carry out some experiments based on abstract knowledge and further explain the applicability to our students. Dissertation, case studies and projects are being carried out to lay emphasis on practical learning and enhancement of skills. Also, study tours are organized to update their knowledge about advanced techniques and technology used in the field.

What are the best practices offered to help students gain necessary skills?

“Enhancing practical skills and boosting personality of students”

We take them to regular industry visits and conduct workshops so that their practical ability, understanding and handling of technical instruments is enhanced. We also encourage our students for class presentations, power-point presentations and seminars to increase their speaking skills, communication skills, presentation capacity and confidence on a large level. National level seminars and guest lectures are organized in the campus as well. Sometimes, we conduct small lecture series so that they can interact with the research students and other faculties from different colleges, which will help them come up with ideas to carry out research after their studies.

How does the department enhance the skills of the faculty?

“Training and skill development programs on a regular basis”

Although we bestow very skilled professionals and experienced individuals as our faculty, we make sure to conduct and deliver faculty development programmes from time to time. Apart from that, we also regulate and attend national and international level conferences to train our teachers with recent advancements in the subject and upgrade their knowledge.

Sometimes, lecture series and presentations are organized to fill in the faculty with all relevant skills for teaching effectively.

What do you see as your department’s greatest strengths?

“Academic quality and successful placement drive”

We serve the best when it comes to academics and quality education in the field of Biotechnology. The teaching faculty is very experienced and qualified; all of them are doctorate holders. Secondly, our placement cell is also very sincere and up to the mark, getting almost 90% students placed in reputed companies through on-campus placement. Apart from academics, we prepare them for higher studies in the research field through various training and workshops.

What valuable advice would you give to the students?

“Read aloud and make books your colleagues”

Reading is my foremost suggestion to all the students, whether here or anywhere. Follow the books they never mislead you or take you to wrong pathways. It benefits your mind and soul in a positive way. Books can be your most beautiful asset and truest of friends; they never leave your hand. Reading habits can help you learn and grow in a better way.
