Dr. Anju Mehta is the officiating Principal in the DAV College of Education for Women, Amritsar. She did Ph.D MCA,M.A( Eng) ,M.Ed and qualified UGC net. She holds various positions in the field of Education from Assistant professor, Head of various committees and clubs of the institution and then Associate professor. She has more than 28 years of experience in the education sector.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“To see the world through various perspectives, analyze facts and connection with youth connnects me with the education sector”

I think education is the only way to change the destiny of a child of a poor country specially. Every child in the world should get the opportunity to achieve education. It helps them to see the world from different perspectives . It helps them able them to appreciate different ways of thinking. It is the way to make our students think as researchers, Professionals and entrepreneurs .


What is your philosophy of leadership in DAV College of Education for Women, Amritsar?

“To respect my team, inspire them and listen to various ideas is my philosophy of leadership”

My Philosophy of leadership is to share responsibility with my team. I respect my team, listen to their ideas and inspire them at needed time. I try to behave with empathy, thoughtfulness and kindness.I always try to inspire and lead through action. I believe constant change is the only pathway forward. I intend to motivate my team through goal-setting and overcoming challenges. I provide guidance and inspiration to improve the team's performance constantly. I intend to motivate my team with a set reward and let them work on their own. 


What courses are available and specify seats in the respective courses of DAV College of Education for Women, Amritsar?

“M.ed, B.Ed, Diploma in Elementary Education and PGDCA(T.E) are our major courses on campus”

Master in Education and Diploma in Elementary Education course with a 2yrs duration is available to pupils. Each course consists of 50 seats total. Other courses include Bachelor in Education with 2yrs containing 200 seats. A one year course in Post graduate Diploma in Computer Science(T.E) is also available to pupils with 40 seats. 


What do you think is the top priority of campus over the next 10 years?

“Formulation of new assessment methods, discipline based knowledge and introducing new courses in upcoming years is the top priority of campus”

We will shift to focus our students from more hours for learning to quality learning time. Our curricula reforms suffer from time lags between recognition, decision making, implementation and impact. The gap between the intent of the curriculum and learning outcome would be removed. We decide to give high quality content for students to engage in learning and acquire deeper understanding. Another one is to deliver new assessment methods to evaluate student outcomes and actions. Teachers to be empowered to use their professional knowledge, skills and expertise to deliver the curriculum effectively. We foster mastery of discipline-based knowledge on campus. To update and align the curriculum to reflect evolving societal requirements and individual learning needs are the major priorities.

Our campus was founded in 1956 under the banner of D.A.V. College Managing Committee, Chitra Gupta Road, New Delhi. The college is housed in its own magnificent and spacious building. It consist of a well furnished library cum-reading room; resource centers for ICT, Art and Craft, Psychology, Mathematics and Social Science, Hostel and modern amenities; visitor’s room, common room, canteen, hall and audio-visual hall etc. We are affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University for its B.Ed, M.Ed. and P.G.D.C.A courses. We provide facilities for research in education up to Ph.D. level. 


Any new courses you are planning to launch in the coming academic year?

We are planning to launch a few new courses in coming years like 3 years B.Ed- M.Ed integrated course, Diploma in Early Childhood Care Education and Diploma in Guidance and Counseling are also planning to launch in the coming academic year.

Any suggestions do you like to give to the current youth and aspiring students? 

“Be strong, focus on your goal and respect time”

Youth need to respect time because it is the most valuable thing. Work on one thing at a time because multitasking does not bring super results. Get out of the job mindset and focus on accomplishing higher things that give you happiness. Be emotionally strong. Recognizing your negative thoughts and emotions.. Focus on Goal-achieving activities and follow a good work ethic. 


How do you establish a healthy relationship in DAV College of Education for Women?

Communication, respect and interpersonal skills are the key factors. I believe communication helps to maintain healthy relationships and respect each other. Both teacher and student should be open with one another about their expectations. I feel that sharing with friends, peers and coworkers are essential in learning. Listening to their ideas and inspiring them while behaving with empathy, thoughtfulness and kindness.
