The very first-of-its-kind Bangabandhu Corner at Assam down town University

In a significant and noteworthy development today, on a special initiative undertaken jointly by the Assam downtown University (AdtU) and the Bangladesh High Commission to India, the Bangabandhu Corner was inaugurated by H.E. Dr. Hasan Mahmud, Hon’ble Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Govt. of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, and Dr. N.N. Dutta, Chancellor of AdtU. This is a first-of-its-kind initiative in eastern India.

The Bangabandhu Corner at the Central Library of the university has been established in honour of the late Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the first President of Bangladesh. He was greatly revered with the honorific title of “Bangabandhu” during his time. This specially designated corner houses historical photos and literary works that are relevant to understanding the culture and ethos of Bangladesh. Floral wreaths were placed on the bust statue of the late president at the start of the ceremony. The welcome address of the event was given by the V.C. of AdtU, Dr. N.C. Talukdar. A host of other dignitaries, the management trustees of AdtU, members of Faculty, students and staff of AdtU were present. The guests were treated to the traditional folk dance of the state on arrival, and traditional gamuchas, seleng chadors, japi and university mementos were presented to them during the ceremony. The Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Mrinmoy Basak, Dean of International Affairs of AdtU, who along with Dr. Shah Mohammad Tanvir Monsur, Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh, Guwahati was at the forefront in organising the event.

India and Bangladesh have shared a common history, and initiatives like these will help to increase regional cooperation, and collaboration on the academic front, and also foster friendly ties for peace and development between both countries. It is hoped that it will further advance the goal of sharing best practices in various fields.


The 8th Convocation of Assam Down Town University (ADTU) held on the 15th of September 2021

Education is the most powerful tool of empowerment and the road to achieve excellence in our path to serve the nation. Assam Down Town University has constantly strived to develop a healthy academic environment for the students which will help them not only to excel in the field of education but also prepare them to deal with the complexity of our social fabric. The pandemic situation has brought the world to a standstill for a long period of time. But despite the lockdown and prolonged halt to physical classes, teaching learning has been a continuous progression in ADTU.

The transition of Assam Down Town University has been very smooth and successful as it always believed in the integration of information technology in education. The outbreak of COVID-19 has taught us that change is inevitable. However, with the determination to cope with the change, Assam Down Town University rose to the front by adopting various digital platforms to cater to the needs of its students residing in the various parts of India as well as other countries alike.The university switched over to digital platforms by strengthening the already existing technological infrastructure called PRAN, the academic ERP that has been introduced in 2017 and ever since functioning as the main network of all academic activities. Online classes replaced offline classes but the university not only provided uninterrupted classes to the students, it also successfully conducted the intermediate and final year/end semester examinations and declared results much within the academic calendar it formulated at the beginning of the session.

Assam Down Town University is the first private University that has successfully hosted the 8th Convocation Ceremony on Wednesday, 15th of September 2021 on the virtual platform. Despite the prevailing situation not being favourable for conducting an event on a grand scale, the university witnessed a total of 944 students and research scholars have been awarded degrees, out of which 724 are graduates, 213 postgraduates, and 7 PhD achievers. ADTU conferred honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) to Sri Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, former Chief Minister of Assam and notable Social Activist and to Sri Padma Hazarika, an eminent social activist and entrepreneur of Assam.

The event commenced with the academic procession of the esteemed dignitaries of Assam Down Town University, with the University anthem playing in the background. The program started with the felicitation of His Excellency, the Governor of Assam, Sri Jagdish Mukhi as the Chief Guest of the Ceremony by the Registrar of the University, Sri Ashim Barman. His Excellency the Governor of Assam, Sri Jagdish Mukhi declared the Convocation open followed by a welcome address by the Chancellor of Assam Down Town University, Dr. N. N. Dutta. Thereafter, the Vice Chancellor (Dr.) N.C. Talukdar also presented his address.

Dean of Studies, Prof. Bandana Dutta, presented the PhD Degrees to the seven research scholars.The Deans of the various Faculty of Study presented the names of the candidates under their respective undergraduate and postgraduate programs who have qualified for the conferment of Bachelors and Masters Degrees. His Excellency, the Governor awarded the students their respective degrees. The students who had qualified for the award of the Doctorate of Philosophy, Masters’ Degree and Bachelors’ degree in different faculties of studies and disciplines but were unable to attend the convocation were presented by the Controller of Examination, Dr. Joydeep Goswami and their degrees were awarded in absentia by His Excellency, the Governor.

Ms. Jyotismita Sarma (BSc. Microbiology)and Ms. Jutima Baruah (Msc. Microbiology) bagged the Gold Medal for the Best Graduate and the best postgraduate of the session 2021 respectively. A befitting award of appreciation for the Best Placement Achiever of the year was presented to Ms. Debapriya Paul (MBA).

Subsequently, the Oath of Dedication was administered to the Degree recipients by Ms. Jutima Baruah and the Vice-Chancellor invited each of the three Awardees to speak a few words. Thereafter the recipients of the honorary degrees, Sri Prafulla Kumar Mahanta and Sri Padma Hazarika was invited to deliver their speeches. After the awards, the Chancellor invited the Chief Guest, His Excellency the Governor of Assam and the visitor of the university to deliver his address followed by the tradition of signing the Convocation Book. The Chancellor and the Vice Chancellor also put their Signatures on the book. After the signatures, His Excellency, the Governor of Assam was requested to declare the convocation closed and the event ended with the national anthem.


ADTU signs MoU with Jaceex Ventures LLP

Assam down town University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Jaceex Ventures LLP recently at Assam down town University. Jaceex is engaged in the business of developing Manpower Skilled in Technical and Other Skills along with Japanese Language Skills. As a part of Development and  considering that there is a large demand of skilled bilinguals especially with Japanese  language, lifestyle and culture skills (LLC Skills). ADTU  is desirous to establish a Jaceex Study Centre at the college to impart  Japanese language, education & training  to teach Japanese language to the students of AdtU.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Dr. Narayan Chandra Talukdar, Vice Chancellor of  Assam down town University and Mr. Rajeev Gupta, Founder CEO, Jaceex Ventures LLP in the presence of Mr. Ashim Barman, Additional Register, Administration and Mr. Nitul Jyoti Das, Dy Register, Academics of Assam down town University. Through the MoU, Assam down town University (AdtU) agrees to be a  partner of Jaceex Ventures LLP for enabling the students to take up the opportunities in Japan as well as organizations in India requiring Japanese language proficiency. Dr. N.C Talukdar, Vice Chancellor thanked Jaceex for collaborating with Assam down town University.

He gave a brief overview of the University and currently ongoing activities, diversity in academics program, future programs and also spoke about the scope of collaboration in training, skill development and employment opportunities of students with Jaceex in the long days to come. Mr. Rajeev Gupta deliberated on the multiple opportunities for career growth and development of students in various sectors both in India and Japan. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Nitul Jyoti Das, Deputy Registrar, Academics.


Assam Govt. appreciates  ADTU for contribution in the fight against Corona

The Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Assam presented a Certificate of Appreciation Assam Down Town University for their contribution in the fight against Covid-19 in the state. The certificate was presented by Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, honourable Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Assam at the GMCH auditorium in Guwahati. On behalf of the University, the Certificate of Appreciation was received by Mr. Nitul Jyoti Das, Deputy Registrar (Academics) of Assam Down Town University.

The certificate has been issued by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Assam with Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Shri. Samir Kr. Sinha, IAS, Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Government of Assam, respectively as the undersigned. "The Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Assam takes utmost pride in honouring your distinguished institution as a mark of gratitude on behalf of the people of Assam" stated the certificate.
