What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“To see my students acquire knowledge in the latest areas of discipline”

Being a teacher, researcher, and mentor in the higher education sector for the last four and half decades indicate my deep interests and connect with the education sector. The education sector is the backbone of any country and it is more true for India, having demographic advantages. India can realize its vision of becoming a world economic power only through quality education and human development. I strongly believe that teachers are the true nation builders and their role is preparing youth for life, for the society and the nation.

What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“Acknowledging the personal worth of an individual”

I believe and follow the Gandhian Philosophy of leadership i.e. leadership by example. A humanistic approach, honesty, truth, and moral values in personal life, and well-defined vision and strategies to achieve goals is the key to being a good leader. It is perhaps the best leadership style that matches to Indian culture and society.

“Every department at Jagannath University involves students and faculty in outreach programs under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan program and villages adoption scheme of the GOI, which indirectly supports the marketing and administration of the University.”

What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the University and the students are?

“Establishing and promoting centers of excellence in contemporary areas”

My responsibilities include preparing students equipped with knowledge and competences to face the successful challenges of modern organizations and of global standards. With that, I make sure to promote a culture of excellence among the students and the faculty. I always focus on maintaining a conducive environment for everyone in this institution. Providing training in generic skills and personality development to enhance the employability of graduates tops my priority list.

When you first came to Jagan Nath University, what was your vision for the University? Has it evolved, and how far along in implementing that vision are you?

“Develop a congenial academic environment”

My vision was to establish systems and procedures, ensure legal compliances, set a strong foundation for sustainable growth which I believe has been achieved. For the sustainable growth of any higher education institution, the important indicator of success is that all stakeholders feel satisfied and students are well placed.

“ Jagan Nath University has been accorded the status of an Approved Training Partner of the NSDC. The University is offering Ph.D. Programs in Management, Law, Engineering, Education, Journalism and Mass Communication and Physiotherapy.”

What are some of the biggest challenges you see, both for higher education in general and for Jagan Nath University specifically?

“Becoming a truly multi-disciplinary and quality-oriented higher education institution”

In higher education gone are the days of the traditional approach to education. The changed socio-economic scenario calls for better quality education with a focus on skill development and employability, particularly in professional and technical education. The major macro-level issues in higher education in India are accessibility, affordability, appropriateness, and accountability, and we, at this university, are fully conscious of all these issues and have designed an academic system such that it could provide affordable quality education to the masses. Moreover, the implementation of the New Education Policy would require major restructuring in the education system of institutions.
