What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“Endowing full potential growth and learning awareness”

I primarily work to coordinate with the teaching and non-teaching staff of the department for smooth functioning and proper conduction of academic, co-curricular and extracurricular activities so that students develop holistically. I allocate duties to faculty members concerning student’s growth and learning, both academically and personally. In addition, I collect feedback from students and communicate from time to time to ensure their comfort and ease on the campus. We also have the privilege of arranging special classes for slow learners and extra inputs for bright students by motivating them towards various national and international competitions. Also, we encourage students towards conducting events under various professional chapters like ACM, CSI and ISTE etc.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

“Supporting a student centric approach in teaching and facilitating interactions”

I try to involve the students in academic monitoring committee meetings and get their feedback for continuous improvement so that there is transparency in the workforce. I allow student- teacher interactions in the form of small groups that help build stronger bonds and provide mentorship and guidance for career opportunities. As the HOD, I conduct regular meetings with department faculty and take their inputs for the department development. This enhances communication and facilitates a friendly spirit among the department faculty.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects?

“Advanced curriculum development and domain specific industrial practices”

Introducing industry oriented courses in the curriculum along with Industrial Internship programs and Industry driven elective courses aids in bringing a practical approach. Curriculum is reviewed from time to time based on the contemporary technology developments in the industry. We are more focused on practical orientation by introducing blended learning courses, conducting seminars and guest lectures by industry experts, real time industry projects, and specialized training workshops, etc. are arranged to understand the current industry developments in various fields.

What are the best practices offered that help the students gain necessary skills?

“Focusing on innate skill development and online courses”

Students are encouraged for self-learning by motivating online courses offered by Industries like Wipro, Infosys etc. We conduct Coding practice sessions on platforms like hacker earth and hacker rank to incorporate relevant skills among students. Also, conducting monthly Codeathons and Hackthons, besides availability of resources to students beyond working hours is a fruitful step to help them learn new things with different means. Moreover, we offer a special focus towards soft skills by having special faculty in the sector and motivate students to take up entrepreneurship as well.

How does the curriculum of your institute ensure the best practice of the industry?

“Conducting regular industrial training programs on campus”

Our curriculum is giving more scope for CBCS by introducing more open elective courses and is designed in line with AICTE Model curriculum and APSHC framework. To reduce the gap between Industry and Academia, Industry driven courses are offered under credited elective courses and add on courses over and above the graduation requirements. This initiative enhances the scope for placements with specific industries and skill sets. In addition to these theory courses, laboratory courses with industry sponsorship are offered in blended mode. The students are encouraged to take up industry supported project works and are motivated towards higher education by providing GATE classes on campus. Students are motivated to participate in nationwide coding contests like TCS Codevita, HackwithInfy, Virtuasa Nueralhack etc. as well.

How does your Institute enhance the skills of the faculty?

“Continuous consideration for various developmental programs”

Faculty are encouraged to participate in various workshops and FDPs organized by reputed institutions and industries. GMRIT is having an initiative called FADS (Faculty Assessment and Development Scheme) to promote research activities. The main objective of this scheme is that faculty would enhance their academic credentials in line with UGC expectations and encourage towards completing their Ph.D. by giving academic flexibility based on the need. Faculty are sponsored with financial incentives for various FDPs, Conference and journal publications. Members of faculty are regularly motivated and sent to industries for internship for upgrading of knowledge in recent engineering technologies. Also, we motivate faculty towards Research Proposals to various research funding agencies such as AICTE, DST, DRDO, etc.
