Prof. Ramesh Behl is the Director and Professor at International Management Institute, Bhubaneswar and a full Professor at IMI Delhi. The factor that keeps me connected with the education sector is my passion. Passion to contribute to society. Throughout my career I have been associated with the education institute, except for initial years of my career working with the industry. The knowledge that one has gained needs to share for the development and betterment of the society.

One cannot create or run an institution at an individual level, it is the team who builds and contributes to the success of an institution. We started IMI Bhubaneswar in an entrepreneurial mode, where we empower our people from day one. This empowerment helped every individual to stay connected with the institution and get a feel of ownership. The entrepreneurship style helped us to take risks and implement things in a different way. This helped us in implementing innovative systems and processes. The empowerment of individuals also helped us create a highly motivated team, which contributed to our success.

International conferences bring global talent at our campus

IMI Bhubaneswar is a true International Management Institute and the teaching, training and research that is conducted is of international standard. We always create our curriculum with the inputs from the industry leaders and are validated at multiple levels as per our governance structure. IMI Bhubaneswar got accredited to National Board of Accreditation (NBA) in 2016, as soon as we got eligible for the accreditation. The NBA accreditation also validated the fact that the curriculum offered by IMI is as per the best practices. We are also associate members of EFMD Global and soon will be going for EQUIS accreditation, which is one of the most prestigious global accreditation. Over a period of time, we have also innovated our teaching pedagogies and moved from typical lecture based teaching to case based to role play to simulation based teachings.

We do not differentiate between students and all are equal for us. To recognize the talent, we have introduced a number of scholarships. Some of these scholarships are merit based and some for a specific set of students. To support social causes, we have scholarships for the wards of defense personnel; scholarships for economically backwards students etc.

To ensure whatever is required for their career development, it is provided to them. I do open houses with my students to understand their needs and try to address them.

In this uncertain time, ten years is a long period to talk about. We would like to consolidate quality teaching, training and research in the years to come. We will be going for international accreditations and strengthen our global reach. At IMI Bhubaneswar, we have already started Incubation Foundation to support young entrepreneurs. We have already started mentoring a couple of start-ups and also become part of start-up Orissa initiative of Government of Orissa.

It is important for institutions to offer skill based courses in a flexible manner

Getting the right kind of faculty resource is quite difficult. Today, every person wants to learn and acquire knowledge in a flexible manner and also wants to acquire only specific skills.
