Debanjali Roy Admission Experience

Did you avail of the benefit of any reservation?

Debanjali Roy: “General (No reservation)”

Describe the general setting of WAT / GD (if any)?

Debanjali Roy: “The GD was in offline mode and occurred in the afternoon at 2 pm to 2.45 pm. There were 14 members in my panel with 3 panelists to judge us on different parameters. There were several other groups for the GD round but the number of members in any group was anywhere between 12 to 20. The conductor of the GD ensured that members followed good etiquette, each member spoke at least once, for about 2 minutes and at the very end, everyone summarized their views. The entire GD lasted for about 45 minutes including the initial 5 minutes which was given before the commencement of the GD for members to think and jot down a few points. The GD was a soft discussion.”

What was the WAT / GD Topic?

Debanjali Roy: “The GD topic was India's Spending Budget on Science and Research.”

What were your answer/points put forward for the WAT or GD respectively?

Debanjali Roy: “India is definitely much behind the World Leaders in the scientific field. Every year, thousands of qualified and talented individuals prefer another developed nation for further studies-BRAIN DRAIN. Science is utilized in every field from medicine, entertainment, IT, research, sports, defense, weather prediction, satellites, even daily activities. Expenditure must be increased in this field, therefore.”

Describe the general setting of your personal Interview.

Debanjali Roy: “PI was done with only 1 panel and 2 professors. The professors were from marketing and HR backgrounds. The PI was in offline mode. PI was for about 25 minutes. No, the panel members were very friendly so it was not a stressful interview at all. Confidence, cool head, analyzing the asked questions before answering, clarity of thought and expression, willingness to learn, and honesty in the answers got me through the PI.”

Mention at least 5 interview questions that were asked to you and your responses to each of them.

Debanjali Roy: “1- Why did you take CSE as your B.Tech stream? I have always been interested in coding and debugging therefore took CS as the 1st optional subject in my +2 classes too. Moving forward, I was still interested in the subject so took it as my B.tech stream too.

2- Why shift to management now? Even from my B. Tech days, I wished to have broader experiences and opportunities. Doing MBA will open up more job roles for me as well as help me understand not only the making of the product but also its sales, market performance, and future.

3- Why finance as a minor specialization? Any and every organization, business, and even our daily lives require an understanding of finance. I like to know it at a more technical depth.

4- Any co-curricular interests? I sketch and paint. I write about current technological topics for the CS departmental magazine. I am also learning swimming. I also regularly take part in the community programs that happen in and around my house. I am also moving towards a healthier lifestyle so I have embraced yoga and meditation.

5- Your Weaknesses? Being an introvert, I do not feel comfortable approaching people. But I am taking steps towards becoming an ambivert by volunteering for group tasks and taking the first steps towards communication with others."

Mention 3 reasons why you chose this college over other colleges which you converted.

Debanjali Roy: “BGU falls under the parent organization of Birla Education. BGU campus life is quite good with many facilities available at a reasonable fee. For the previous years, BGU had better placements for its students than its competitors.”

What was the reason for you not converting other colleges? (if any)

Debanjali Roy: “In my PI round at XIMB, I could not answer a question on permutation and combination. At XLRI, I told the interview panelists that I was introverted and didn't feel comfortable approaching people so was not selected for Marketing specialization.”
