What is your philosophy of leadership?

The function of leadership is to produce more leaders and fewer followers”

Leadership is the ability to guide others without any force into a decision or direction that will leave them feeling empowered and accomplished. Leadership is not about control. It is about influence.

The very essence of leadership is that you have to have a vision. You can't blow an uncertain trumpet. My job is not to be easy on people but to make and push these people to be even better. To have long term success in any position of leadership, we must be obsessed in some way.

What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the University and the students are?

“Developing policies and infrastructure for connecting teaching with industry and marketplace”

A Vice-Chancellor is the principal academic and administrative officer of the University. I am responsible for providing leadership, academic and administrative excellence to the whole University.

When you first joined the University, what was your vision?

To deliver quality work on the academics front and the research domain”

I took over the position of Vice-Chancellor of G H Raisoni University in December 2019, just three months before the pandemic hit our country. We prepared a five-year perspective plan for the University with six colleges. There were challenges initially due to Covid-19 like converting conventional classes into online mode, capacity building programs for teaching staff, conducting online assessments for the students and also conducting research activities as scheduled. I believe Proper preparation prevents poor performance.

What is the University's greatest strength?

“Excellent infrastructure, driven faculty and increased inclination towards research activities”

Our greatest strengths are distinguished faculty credited with numerous patents, State of Art infrastructure, industry-driven curriculum, extensive corporate interaction, research labs, and a well-stocked library. Everything we do is in tune with providing students with the best opportunity to leverage the resources. Moreover, we encourage our students and inspire them to have excellent soft-spoken skills, making them valuable ambassadors of their companies.

What will be the priority of GH Raisoni University for the next ten years?

“To create a system that ensures continuous teaching and bring innovative pedagogy”

We are exploring modern methods to enrich students' learning experiences. Along with this, we intend to compete with other high-ranking Universities to develop our capabilities. A continued focus on developing our faculty, encouraging their research, and keeping updating the curriculum to fit the industry needs. One of the most important reasons to have a thriving learning environment is to have students from diverse backgrounds. We will be focussing on this aspect as we always have to enrich peer-to-peer learning.

What are some of the biggest challenges you see for higher education?

Our education system is outdated, non-innovative and does not provide avenues for students to take risks”

  • Indian higher education landscape needs systematic changes in regulation, accreditation, internationalism, privatisation, ranking of higher education institutions etc.
  • There are very few colleges that can cultivate the skills required to survive in the contemporary world.
  • The institutions with wholesome learning atmospheres, updated curriculum and qualified faculties are significantly less in number.
  • We see a few initiatives from top Universities, but that will not be sufficient to encompass the millions of students in various educational institutions.
  • With the experience gained in 2020, we at GHRU have now developed a better understanding to tackle uncertainties in 2021. The teachers are much more confident and efficient in conducting online classes.
