UCEED 2020 Seat Availability and Participating Colleges

Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination in Design or UCEED 2020 was successfully conducted on January 18, 2020 by Industrial Design Centre - IIT Bombay, under the guidance of the UCEED-CEED Implementation Committee 2020. The result of the same is scheduled to be released on March 13, 2020. On the basis of the said result, examinees can seek admission in the Bachelor of Design (B. Des) program at the four participating institutes - IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad and IIITDM Jabalpur.

Several other established Design schools also accept UCEED scores for admission into their undergraduate Design programs. In 2019, a total of 15 universities and colleges, other than the participating institutes, enrolled students into their B. Des programs on the basis of UCEED scores. This year, the count has risen to 22 universities and colleges that would be inviting UCEED 2020 qualifiers for admissions on the basis of their scores. Check UCEED

UCEED 2020 Result

The results of UCEED 2020 will be published on the official website on March 13, 2020. Candidates will be able to download and print their scorecards from the website using their individual login credentials. Please note that the UCEED 2020 scorecard will not be sent to the examinees via mail or post; they will have to download and print the same from the official website.

Along with the UCEED 2020 result, a Rank List will also be published featuring the all-India ranks of the qualified candidates. However, a note of caution for aspirants in this context: just qualifying UCEED 2020 or featuring in the Rank List does not ensure admission into the institute of choice. Candidates who qualify UCEED 2020 are required to apply separately for B. Des admissions and seats will be offered in order of merit in the respective category. UCEED 2020 score is valid only for admission in the academic year 2020-2021.

The participating institutes have a common application process for admission into their respective B. Des programs The UCEED Office at IIT Bombay will conduct the joint seat allocation process for shortlisted applicants.

There will be three rounds of seat allocation, though once all seats are filled, the allocation process will be closed. The seats will be allotted on the bases of applicants’ UCEED 2020 rank, category and choice of institutes.

UCEED 2020: How Rank List is prepared?

The UCEED 2020 Rank list will be prepared based on the total marks secured in both Part-A and Part-B of the test. Only one comprehensive Rank List will be prepared, though, candidates will be able to view their category-wise standing from the results page. Please note that only candidates who score the prescribed minimum percentage in both Part-A and Part-B will feature in the UCEED 2020 Rank List. The minimum prescribed marks for each category is presented in the table below:

Merit List Minimum % of marks in each Section in Part-A and Part-B Minimum Total Marks
Common rank list (CRL) 10% 100
OBC-NCL rank list 9% 90
SC rank list 5% 50
ST rank list 5% 50
PwD rank list 5% 50

Given the above prescribed sectional marks to be scored in order to be included in the UCEED 2020 Rank List, the UCEED Committee reserves the right to decrease the minimum percentage of marks, section-wise as well as in the aggregate, such that 10×N ranks can be declared, where N is the total number of seats available.

In case two or more candidates secure the same total score, Rank is awarded by using the following tie-breaker rules, in the given order:

  • Higher rank is assigned to the candidate who has scored higher in Part-B of the test.
  • Higher rank is assigned to the candidate who has scored higher in Part-A’s Section 2.
  • Higher rank is assigned to the candidate who has scored higher in Part-A’s Section 1.
  • If tie persists even after implementing the above three rules, the candidates in question will be assigned the same rank.

UCEED 2020: Reservation Criteria

UCEED 2020 was open to both national and foreign candidates. At the time of centralized counselling and admissions at the four participating institutes, seats allotted to foreign nationals will be supernumerary with a cap of 10% of the total available seats in the program. The availability of such supernumerary seats will be announced at the time of seat allocation. Examinees who are OCI (Overseas Citizen of India)/ PIO (Person of Indian Origin) cardholders will be allocated seats under the Open category, but not supernumerary. Foreign Nationals and OCI/ PIO card holders should bear in mind that their candidature will not be considered for any reservation for admission by the institutes.

The participating institutes follow the government regulated seat reservation policy as listed below:

Reserved Category Percentage of Total seats reserved
Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) 10%
Other Backward Classes - Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) 27%
Scheduled Caste (SC) 15%
Scheduled Tribe (ST) 7.5%
Person with Disability (PwD) 5%

Please note:

  • OBC-NCL certificates issued April 1, 2019, onwards only are accepted.
  • The 5% reservation rule for PwD candidates is cycled over 4-year period, category-wise, as per policies of the concerned institute. In case a PwD seat remains vacant in a given year, it will be reverted to the category from which the seat was assigned for that year.
  • The benefit of reservation will be given only to those castes and tribes that are mentioned in the respective central list published by the Government of India.
  • Applicants belonging to the creamy layer of OBC are considered as open/ unreserved category candidates.
  • Candidates belonging to the reserved categories will be declared as qualified on the basis of a pre-decided relaxed criterion.
  • Unfilled seats in the OBC-NCL category can be allotted to unreserved category candidates, however, vacant seats under the SC and ST categories cannot be allotted in a similar fashion. Leprosy-cured candidates who are otherwise fit to pursue the programs are included in the PwD category.
  • The category chosen by a candidate at the time of application for UCEED 2020 will be considered final and no requests for category change will be entertained after submission.
