Is PGDIE in NITIE a better option than jobs in PSUs like IOCL, ONGC, BPCL after GATE?

PD
Poonam Dalal Posted On : August 28th, 2021
Studied at the National Institute of Industrial Engineering

Jobs at PSUs win over PGDIE at NITIE. However, if you are a fresher and you have to choose one, let us look at both the jobs options one by one.

  1. If you join NITIE, which offers techno-managerial roles, you will end up in the corporate world with lots of job varieties and offers. Even though NITIE is a center of excellence, no big offers are given to students. PGDIE is an industrial course offered by NITIE that does not add much value after 2 years.
  2. On the other hand, PSUs provide you a settled life. However, during the initial years, it might be hectic but it varies from organization to organization. After few years of work, due to saturation employees try leaving the job. So, if you do not like saturation, you can opt for NITIE.

However, 99.99% of top 100 rankers in GATE either go for jobs at PSUs or opt to pursue M.Tech from institutions like IITs/ IISC. In fact, you will find this in any branch you look at. You can also check the GATE rank of persons joining NITIE.

How is the placement scenario in the PGDIE course at NITIE?

RS
Rishabh Saxena Posted On : August 28th, 2021
Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Management, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2021)

The placement scenario for PGDIE at NITIE is outstanding as a lot of reputed companies visit the campus during placements. These include Abbott, Aditya Birla, Tata Sky, Flipkart, Accenture, Exide, Cognizant, Grofers, Ola, Cloudtail, Myntra, Marico, Reliance, Airtel and many other companies.

A total of 121 companies have visited the campus and the students have received around 130 pre-placement offers. The highest domestic package offered is 44 LPA and the average package offered is 20.85 LPA.

Most of the companies take GD first and then personal interviews, but finance and consulting companies have a different approach. They shortlist the students based on their resumes and then take their interviews. They also take an aptitude test which requires having good knowledge of the subject and decent mathematical skills.

If you have prepared hard enough to present yourself in the interviews, then you will surely get placed in a top company. You should know everything about your resume and should always answer the questions with confidence.

What is the future after you are placed from the NITIE Mumbai (PGDIE)? Is growth better in a mechanical core job or an industrial engineer job?

PG
Pravin Girdhar Posted On : August 20th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

The Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering (PGDIE) course offered by NITIE Mumbai is a management-level course. So growth opportunities are very good.

  • NITIE Mumbai will definitely offer you a very good opportunity to work with some of the biggest companies in India.
  • These companies include HUL, ITC Ltd., Amazon, P&G, KPMG, Deloitte, and many other nationalized and private banks as well as other financial institutions.
  • It then depends on your own performance how you utilize them and go up the ladder.
Categories PGDIE at NITIE Mumbai
Highest CTC 36-39 LPA
Average CTC 25-26 LPA
Lowest CTC 8-12 LPA

As this is a management level program it does not really matter whether you are from mechanical engineering or industrial engineering or some other. The college gives equal opportunities to all. After you reach a certain level, technical expertise becomes less and less relevant.

PGDIM Industrial Management, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2018)

Among the mentioned programs PGDMM and PGDPM are comparatively newer and provide some really good courses for students with computer and IT backgrounds. If you want to take the GATE exam and get into NITIE through PGDIE then in the 2nd year of your course you will get a wide range of electives available. Here are some of the electives.

  • Advanced IT for Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering
  • Business Process Integration and Management
  • Computer Integrated Manufacturing
  • Data Analysis and Decision Making
  • Data Analytics
  • Data Communications and Networking
  • Data Mining for Business Intelligence
  • Decision Support Systems and Expert Systems
  • E commerce
  • E customer Relationship Management
  • ERP, etc.

Most of the courses here are Computer sector-related and related to the programming and software side whereas some of them are related to the IT sector and mainly deal with the hardware side.

But make a note that IE is not an M.Tech course. It is a management course. So, you will get placed in management roles post your degree.

Should I join NITIE in their PGDIE program or wait for PSU?

NK
Neha Kansal Posted On : August 18th, 2021
PGDIE from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

If you want to pursue a higher degree that too in MBA then go for NITIE. If you have got a call or if you are inclined towards doing a job you can opt for that. It depends completely upon your decision.

I would like to share one of my friend’s experiences, who was in a same dilemma of choosing between one, but ultimately he chose to join NITIE PGDIE.

  • After he joined, he got an offer letter from IOCL as well but he chose to stay at NITIE.
  • The only factors that matter here are time and money.
  • If you want to go for PSUs and would leave this course in the middle or if either of the calls gets converted, then, you would have to compromise the whole year as well as the fee submitted for it.
  • But if you are financially strong, you can consider NITIE as a backup.
  • A lot of people change their minds as my friend did after coming to NITIE. It’s a different life here.

So, in case you don’t make it to the PSUs, then you must know that you can definitely join NITIE which would be completely worth it.

Do PGDIE students at NITIE get monthly stipend for 2 years from HRDM for TA (as similar to MTech from IITs with monthly stipend of Rs.12400)? Any T&C?

RB
Rita Bora Posted On : August 16th, 2021
Studied PGDIE from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

One of my friends has completed his PGDIE from NITIE and as a TA he has received 12400/- per month.

  • Not only PGDIE students but students from PGDMM and PFDPM also receive the stipend as a TA.
  • For receiving it the students are assigned a professor from the college only and the work for students will be on a project or any research paper.
  • The work will be decided by the professor allotted.Sometimes, the students also have to work over the tasks related to NITIE.
  • You won’t be pressurized for anything as you’ll be indulged in TA work.
  • There is a program named PGDIE. It is quite equal to M.Tech. The students of PGDIE enjoy the project for 6 months introduced by NITIE.

However, the stipend for 12400 is paid to the students to get themselves involved in the professors’ TAs work, but the students aren’t paid anything during summer internships.

What is your choice and why between NITIE PGDIE and PSU jobs from the GATE?

UK
Uday Kumar Posted On : August 20th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

As some of my friends are related to the above-mentioned careers, I will give information on both PSU jobs and NITIE PGDIE so that you will get a basic idea and make the right choice.

PSU:

  • All PSU jobs are different from each other. You will find different cultures in different departments.
  • PSU’s Oil marketing departments such as BPCL, IOCL, HPCL are in high demand.
  • Your life will also be smooth in these departments.
  • NTPC offers jobs at remote locations but gives a good work-life balance. On the other hand, ONGC offers good pay.
  • Its transfer process is also smooth and runs on a 14 days on-off pattern, unlike other PSU jobs.
  • ONGC job location can also be remote.
  • PSU jobs are for those who want a decent salary and want a smooth life.

NITIE:

  • In NITIE you can complete your post-graduation and get placement in management.
  • It provides a great placement.
  • The highest package of 2020-21 is INR 35 LPA.
  • The opportunity is provided to GATE candidates by NITIE.
  • Every top company such as Google, Flipkart, Amazon, ITC, Uber, BMW, Ola and more comes for placement as well as for internships.
  • You have to work hard while working for these big companies.
  • Your hard work will be rewarded with promotions and high pay.
  • In PSU you cannot get immediate promotion and you also don’t get much appreciation for your work.

Therefore, both PSU and NITIE have their own pros and cons. So, make a conscious decision before entering any field.

Which is a better management course, PGDIE from NITIE Mumbai or Masters of Management from IISC Bangalore?

AS
Anupama Srivastava Posted On : August 18th, 2021
Studied Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering at National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

Having to know some people from both these institutes, I can say that both have the sand management course but still, there's a lot of difference between the mindset of the two.

  • The curriculum remains the same but the change comes in the teaching method.
  • IISc, as usual, has a research-oriented way of teaching.
  • Whereas NITIE focuses more on the logical and decision-making skills from the managerial point of view.
  • Both are different in the placement domain as there's a marginal difference between the average packages.
  • Also, IISc is a tier 2 college unlike NITIE.
Categories PGDIE at NITIE Mumbai MMS at IISc Bangalore
Course Fee 14.63 lakh 3.18 lakh
Highest CTC 28 LPA 26 LPA
Average CTC 15 LPA 12-18 LPA
Recruiting Companies Wipro, ZS Associates, IBM, HP, etc. Infosys, Cognizant, Dell, TCS, etc.

So ultimately it is your decision to choose between these two colleges. Assess every criteria before finalizing one. As this will shape your career further.
