How is life at Thapar University for 1st year students?

DB
Danish Bose Posted On : August 9th, 2021
Studied at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology

Based on what I heard from my friends at the institute I will say life in the first year at Thapar University is great.

Boys have hostel B, C, FRC, and H. If you are in hostel B or C you are gonna have a wonderful time throughout.

When it was my friend’s first year they used to roam on the campus. They used to put off studies for the reading week which is the week before exams for preparation. There are also many extracurricular activities in which you can take part during your first year.

Winters are extremely chilling with lots of fog so if you are from a place where there is no fog you will love it.

Apart from missing your home and the food of the mess, you will surely enjoy your first year.

Which one is better, Thapar University or Shiv Nadar University?

AZ
Agrima Zutshi Posted On : August 12th, 2021
B.Sc. Economics, Shiv Nadar University (2018)

After IIT Hyderabad and BITS, Thapar University is the third-best private college, while the other two are unsuitable for engineering.

If you have the option, choose a branch in Thapar over SNU.

Thapar University is one of India's most prominent and best engineering institutes, ranked second only to Bits Pilani in terms of private institutes. In the NIRF rankings, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology is holding 20th position.

Thapar is superior in every way, including crowds, brand, studies, research, placements, and campus environment, etc.

Which is better, chemical engineering from UICET PU Chandigarh, chemical engineering from Thapar University Patiala or computer science from CCET Chandigarh (affiliated to PU)?

PK
Pankaj Kumar Posted On : August 5th, 2021
Studied at Delhi University (2019)

Having a few friends from both institutes I might be able to share some facts about both the institutes. Chemical Engineering at UICET is better than Chemical at Thapar University or CSE at CCET.

  • UICET is a well-renowned university and has a reputed department.
  • They have brilliant placement records and a strong alumni base.
  • Laboratories and faculty at UICET are better than those at Thapar.
  • Course fees at UICET for chemical engineering are very less than that in Thapar University.
  • Thapar is no doubt a well-reputed university but as far as chemical engineering is concerned UICET is better.
  • CCET is affiliated with PU located in sector-26 Chandigarh. It is well known for its diploma courses.
  • However, UICET is any day better than CCET in all terms.
Categories Chemical Engineering at UICET Chemical Engineering at Thapar University CSE at CCET Chandigarh
Course Fee INR 70,079 13.23 lakh 2.45 lakh
Highest CTC 18 LPA 15 LPA 12 LPA
Average CTC 6.31 LPA 7 LPA 4-5 LPA
Recruiting Companies Honeywell, Reliance, Pfizer, Piramal Healthcare, etc. Reliance, GAIL, ONGC, GlaxoSmithKline, etc. Infosys, Godrej, L&T, HCL, etc.

Your preference order should be Chemical Engineering at UICET> Chemical at Thapar University> CSE at CCET.

How is the placement scenario in Thapar University (TIET) Patiala this year?

HR
Himanshu Roy Posted On : August 11th, 2021
B.Tech Computer Science Engineering, Panjab University, Chandigarh (2021)

As you already know Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology is a reputed institution and even older than IITs. It has built trust with its quality education and curriculum as per the industry needs. And it's very obvious when students do well, recruiters visit the campus very often.

  • The placement scenario at Thapar is quite good and the students get a good career opportunity as per their capabilities.
  • If you are one who is dedicated and hardworking then you can be placed at an awesome package. This year the highest placement for CSE was 45 LPA.
  • But it is mostly who join their 2+2 course i.e first 2 years in Thapar and last 2 years in Trinity College.
  • Thapar takes 500 students each year for the CSE branch. So, you will have to be among the top 20 to get a good package.

If you are planning to pursue a degree from Thapar Institute you need to worry about placement. If you do your bit, Thapar Institute and placement cell will support you for sure. The placement cell has placed many of its alumni who are working at good salary packages in good and well-known companies like Deloitte, Infosys, IBM, J.P. Morgan, Maruti Suzuki, etc, .

What is wrong with thapar university patiala?

NS
Nidhi Sen Posted On : August 10th, 2021
B.Tech from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2019)

My sister is a student at Thapar University and here are some of the things that she complains about.

  • The hike in tuition fees every year.
  • The increase in student intake, which in turn affects the quality of education.
  • Over the years the placement records other than the CSE branch have declined.
  • The faculty base is also not that great.
  • The cut-off is decreasing every year but it is the case in every college. Today, even with a score of 130 in JEE mains, one can make it to an NIT.

Overall, Thapar University is a decent college but certainly needs to improve a few things.

Does anybody go to Thapar University after dropping a year?

AN
Alisha Narang Posted On : August 6th, 2021
Studied at Pune University (2019)

Unwillingly yes, students go to Thapar University after dropping a year. A few of my friends are pursuing engineering from Thapar University. Here are some things that I got to know:

  • Students usually drop due to obvious reasons like not having good marks or a good rank to get a core branch in a decent NIT.
  • I got to know that a lot of people whom I connected with on the internet, were droppers studying at Thapar.
  • The purpose of dropping is to get a chance to study in a better college.
  • Students who drop could opt for Government colleges but those may have an average reputation.
  • So ultimately they choose to study at Thapar, which is comparatively better than the others.

Not all droppers are unsuccessful in their second attempt, many improve by working hard and having full determination.

How is the integrated BE-MBA course in Thapar University? Why is it given lower priority than the BE in admissions?

DG
Dhe Gupta Posted On : August 10th, 2021
B.Tech Computer Science, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2020)

According to one of my friends, who is an alumnus of Thapar University, the integrated program involving BE and MBA is mostly preferred by the students nowadays over many other branches like civil, chemical, mechanical, and many others. At the same time, computer science or electronics plus MBA is a good option to take your career ahead as you may be well aware of the popularity of the computer science branch at Thapar University. Also, there is a benefit of not giving competitive exams such as CAT or GMAT.

The students who remain in the turmoil of giving entrance exams and don't want to write the national level exams or are afraid of not getting LM Thapar according to the marks scored in entrance exams, mostly prefer this course.

Since the course is newly introduced by the university, it will take time to settle and as soon as the stream settles down, automatically the cut-off will go high.

As for why this course has low priority among students, it’s just a mindset problem and has nothing to do with the course or university.
