What should I choose between IIT-Kanpur CSE and IIT Madras CSE?
You should choose IIT Madras CSE. Being a metro city, Chennai has an edge over Kanpur. It will be easier to get resources, internships, projects, and placements. IIT Madras has a smaller batch size. So, it’s easier for students to communicate with teachers. If you are interested in Machine Learning and AI, then IITM will be the better option. CSE Prof. Balaraman Ravindran has been featured in reputed business magazines.
IIT Madras placements are excellent for CSE. Students of the branch usually receive an average CTC of around INR 17.54 LPA.

A similar situation was there for my cousin in 2015, he opted for IIT Madras because of certain reasons, which I am going to share, to help make up your mind:
- IIT Madras is situated in the city of Chennai, Tamil Nadu with a lot of activity hubs located nearby.
- They have smaller batches (40 B.Tech + 12 Dual degree programs). This is a highly valuable aspect. The professors can interact with the students in a better manner.
- The competition during placements becomes easier. Last year, 16 out of 50 students received job offers abroad.
- The researches in the domains of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have more impetus and fundings at IIT Madras.
- The professors and lecturers the institutes have like Mr. Balaraman Ravindran have been featured in top business magazines of the country and they also have their own research centres.
