B.Tech Aerospace Engineer, Lovely Professional University

GD Goenka is ranked the Best Agricultural University in the NCR region. It is UGC recognized and most popular for agricultural courses among students. The institute also offers 100% scholarships to the students. The faculties are well-qualified and quite dedicated.

  • One of the major reasons why students choose this college is the infrastructure. The campus is huge and equipped with all the necessary amenities. There are air-conditioned classrooms with projectors installed, good Wi-Fi connection, library, medical room, canteen, auditorium.
  • The hostel accommodations are quite comfortable with a gym, spa, laundry, swimming pool, etc. The food provided at the mess is hygienic.
  • Some of the most preferred specializations of Agriculture which are trending among students are Forestry, Plant Pathology, Horticulture, Floriculture, Genetics & Plant Breeding, Seed Science & Technology.
  • The institute offers many internship offers. Many of my friends at the institute even received 2-3 internships.

For Agriculture, GD Goenka is definitely a great option with good academic and infrastructural facilities.

If I study agriculture from a non ICAR university but the university is UGC approved will I get a govt job of agriculture?

B.Sc Agriculture & Agriculture, Lovely Professional University- LPU (2014)

Both ICAR and UGC are two different organizations and both have different roles. UGC plays an important role in traditional education while ICAR plays an important role in agricultural education.

You can get a government job based on the requirements for that job. If they demand a graduate from any college or university without any special mention for an ICAR affiliated university, then you will be eligible for that job. But if it is clearly mentioned ICAR affiliated universities only, then you won't be able to apply for that job.

Choosing an ICAR affiliated college will be a better option as it focuses on agriculture specially and it will create new possibilities of getting a better government job and getting more recognition and fame in this field.

How is it to opt for Agriculture and Food engineering in IIT Kharagpur? What is the scope for non core jobs?

AC
Anumita Chatterjee Posted On : March 22nd, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK)

Agriculture and Food Engineering faces no competition in the Indian market and thus its students usually target higher studies from foreign universities. Basically, no other IIT has had this branch till now.

The course curriculum includes basic principles of chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, and civil engineering, but each of these is taught in agricultural aspects.

Since the students of this course do not specialize in any branch, the placement scenario of this branch is very poor. Agricultural Engineering companies might have a special interest in you but the main problem is this branch is not known to many top companies. Eventually, there are only a very few core companies that offer placements.

The worst part is that even companies offering non-core jobs that are open for students of all branches don’t consider students of this specific branch. So it all depends on your individual performance and your profile.

Hence the scope of non-core jobs in this department is decent and depends mostly on your individual profile and performance.

What should I choose, NSUT Electrical or IIT Kharagpur Food and agriculture Engineering?

SG
Senjuti Gupta Posted On : March 27th, 2023
studied at IIT Kgp

For your information, the Agriculture Department of IIT Kharagpur itself is around 300 acres whereas the entire IIT Delhi is sightless less than 400 acres. The huge area of IIT KGP is definitely not a boon and might actually work against you. Moreover, it’s not a brainer that Electrical Engineering seems to be a better option than Agriculture Engineering unless you have an interest in the latter. NSUT itself is a pretty decent institute and is much in demand because of its central location.

In short, I recommend you to join IIT Kharagpur (Agriculture) only under 2 circumstances,

  • You are genuinely interested in the field and want it to pursue a career in the same
  • You want to pursue higher studies in foreign studies.

For this, the IIT tag will be much more useful than NSUT. The entire answer is based on my opinion only and not on any data.

How is a B.Tech in Agriculture Engineering at SHUATS?

TS
Tridha Sinha Posted On : October 4th, 2022
B.Tech from Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences

SHUATS offers a great B.Tech Agriculture Engineering program. This program is affiliated with ICAR and it is among the top courses offered by the university. SHUATS has a decent infrastructure. Classes are regular. B.Tech Agriculture Engineering coursework is a combination of Agriculture and Machinery.

The placement record of the course isn’t excellent. According to the recent highlights of SHUATS placements around 40% of students from B.Tech Agriculture Engineering get placed. Few companies such as Mahindra, Sonalika, etc. visit the campus placements.
