Are there any reservations in the NMIMS?

RB
Rohan Bose Posted On : May 25th, 2021
studied MBA in Marketing at SVKM's NMIMS (2019)

NMIMS is a private university founded by the Gujaratis and so, in the initial days, it remained with a greater portion of reservation (50%) for Gujarati’s. But, later on, this reservation comes to an end & now it follows only 2 reservation stated as follows:

  1. Reservation for female candidates (30%)
  2. Minor part of a reservation for widows/ wards of armed forces personnel killed/disabled in war/action or for Kashmiri migrants

Being a private university NMIMS has not had reservations based on caste; financial background; or management quota.

This does not mean that NMIMS would not comply with any kind of reservation in the future. It is a private university run by a trust and all the decisions would be taken by the members of the trust to further the university brand value.

Is there any quota for Delhi students in DU?

AD
Aliya Dixit Posted On : October 10th, 2022
B.com Honors in Business & Marketing, University of Delhi

There is a quota for Delhi students at DU. In a recently concluded hearing, the Delhi High Court stated that a Delhi student who graduates from an NCR school will not be eligible for the Delhi Quota for college admissions. The Delhi High Court heard a petition from a class 12 student seeking the benefit of reservation for college admission and clarified that the Delhi Quota will be applied based on school, not domicile. In all Delhi University colleges, 85 percent of the seats are reserved for Delhi residents, while 15 percent are reserved for candidates from outside the city.

Below is a list of 12 Delhi University Colleges that are fully sponsored by the Delhi Government.

Indira Gandhi Institute of Phy. Education & Sports Science Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies
Shaheed RajGuru College Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College
Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College Acharya Narendra Dev College
Bhagini Nivedita College Keshav Maha Vidyalaya
Maharaja Agrasen College Aditi Mahavidyalaya
Maharshi Balmiki College of Education Bhaskara Charya College of Applied Science

According to the proposal by the Delhi Government, the colleges that receive 50% capital grants and 5% recurring grants from the Delhi State Government will likely have 50% reservations for Delhites. This list includes 16 colleges, which are as follows:

Bharti College Gargi College
Delhi College of Arts and Commerce Kalindi College
Maitreyi College Rajdhani College
Shivaji College Satyawati College
Vivekananda College Satyawati College
Kamala Nehru College Motilal Nehru College
Laxmi Bai College Shyama Prasad Mukharji College
Sri Aurobindo College Shaheed Bhagat Singh College

Every year, DU announces its annual hiking cut-offs, which include only the best students from across the country. Some colleges have cutoffs as high as 100%.

Some colleges like ISB, BITS Pilani, XLRI, SPJAIN, etc. do not have a caste-based reservation. Is it not mandatory for all colleges in India?

GJ
Gurpreet Jain Posted On : May 25th, 2021
PhD from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (2016)

BITS Pilani is affiliated with the UGC which is why a caste-based reservation is required for the enrollment of students. It also has received funding in the form of Science and Technology Projects (UGC Major and Minor Projects).

As for now, the funding released for BITS has been stopped by the UGC, and BITS Pilani does not receive any financial support from any of the government authorities. But, BITS Pilani does not follow the criterion of selecting students based on caste-based reservations. A case has been filed against BITS for the same reason.

A major reason why these Institutes refuse to follow the reservation-based criterion because they are Private and do not receive any funding from the Government authorities. Due to privatization, reservation rules are not mandatory for these institutes.

These Institutes can follow any criterion for their selection process based on their choices. No Government body has the authority to force these institutes to follow and include a caste-based reservation in their system.

Does St. Xavier's College, Kolkata have reservations?

RN
Rituparna Nandi Posted On : May 24th, 2021
B.Com from St. Xavier's College, Kolkata

Yes, St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata has reservations and they give admissions on that basis. The students falling under the categories of reservations are given priorities. All the reservations are the same as the state reservations except the first category that is the merit-based reservations for the General category students.

  • Category 1: The students of the General Category scored well in academics. The admissions are given according to merit.
  • Category 2: The second category is for Catholics and other Christians.
  • Category 3: The students who are ST, SC, falling under sports quota(doing exceptionally well in sports), physically or economically challenged, schools under the Calcutta Province of the Society of Jesus, and the NCC cadets.

These are the categories of reservations in St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata. If a student falls under one of these categories, they will get an admission for sure.

Does IPM IIM Indore have reservations in the final selection?

HS
Hiten Sahu Posted On : August 20th, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Management, Indore (2019)

One of my cousins studied at IIM Indore. According to him, yes, IPM IIM Indore has reservations in the final selection round.

IIM Indore, just like any other government institution, follows the reservation policies that are set up by the Government of India for colleges across the country. And, the same is followed for admission into the IPM course of IIM Indore as well.

However, even though this matters, I would suggest you not think about all these factors as of now and aim at scoring the best that you can.

What is the CW category cutoff in the Delhi University? I have not seen the CW list published in the DU UG lists.

UK
Utsav Kamra Posted On : October 10th, 2022
Studied B.Sc from University of Delhi

The DU information Bulletin makes little mention of the procedure/selection under the CW category. Because there is no separate cut-off for this category, it is impossible to know whether one is eligible for the first, second, or third cut-off, and so on.

PROCEDURE:

  1. Report on time for your priority category in the central conference hall near the Department of Botany on North Campus. Keep in mind that no documents are required for the CW category, but you should have an education concession certificate in the same format as described in DU information Bulletin, and the letterhead should include your complete address and contact information so that they can verify your certification. In addition, you should bring the PPO, DISCHARGE BOOK/SERVICE BOOK, and all other related documents in both original and self-attested copies.

  2. If you have all of the required documents, they will give you a form to fill out with your information and preferences for colleges and courses in priority order.

  3. You will receive an admission provisional slip addressed to the college's principal, most likely from the Administrative Block/Conference Hall, with your name on it.

  4. When you receive the provisional admission slip, you have completed 80% of the process. After receiving your provisional slip, report to your assigned college with all of your documents in original and one set of self-attested copies. However, before enrolling in college, you must apply through the DU website student Dashboard. Take a printout of the same under the link that is still active.

  5. Once the college has approved your admission, pay the fee immediately. There is no need to postpone the process to secure your admission.

Is there any reservation for home state candidates for XLRI and is there any preference for girls in XLRI?

SS
Shahistha Sayyed Posted On : June 14th, 2021
MBA from Xavier School of Management

To get into XLRI, one has to make it to their merit list. You are wrong to believe that one has to secure a sort of special preference just because they are a "home candidate" in particular.

XLRI neither is under any such compulsion nor does it reserve any seats for any candidate like that. As a matter of fact, no institute does that. Just like the boys, the girls who are admitted at XLRI too possess the apt skills and smartness it takes to reach there. Whatever is taught to girls is similar to what is taught to the boys too. Believing in a misconception like that should be corrected right away.

To conclude, all I would like to say is that be it XLRI or any other institute- not even a single one of them in today's time cares about gender preference. If you are smart, you would be welcomed and respected everywhere.

To be admitted to FMS, Delhi, candidates must have a bachelor's degree of at least 3 years duration after class 12, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (in the case of SC/ST candidates, only passing marks are required).
