How one can prepare for UPSC while studying in Delhi University?

GR
Gauri Rao Posted On : November 8th, 2021
studied B.A. Prog in Economics and Political Science, University of Delhi (2021)
With the presence of like-minded people, Delhi University offers the best exposure on campus. You will be interacting with experts from various fields and you should make the most of it.  It is important to keep yourself updated with current affairs. Do not bulk things up and start studying on a daily basis. You can focus fully on UPSC preparation as DU gives less attention to attendance. The syllabus for UPSC requires a basic knowledge of topics from History, Economics, Political Science, Environmental Science. For this, the best suitable program will be BA Programme to study at DU. If you have enrolled in any other subject, then you should start studying topics from NCERT and current affairs. Apart from this, joining a coaching institute will always be an option but self-study is more important.

Every college under Delhi University is good and you should choose the college as per your choice of interest. Do not go for it because it is famous or near your house.  Following are a few top colleges in Delhi University: SRCC Hindu College St. Stephen’s College Ramjas College Miranda House Sri Venkateswara College Lady Shri Ram College for Women Jesus and Mary College Hansraj College Gargi College All of these mentioned colleges are considered top-ranked under Delhi University. However, each of them varies in terms of placements, education quality, academic opportunities, extra-curricular activities, and more.  DU Cut off is very high and it takes a lot of hard work and determination to secure a seat in any of the top colleges.

What are some of the worst Delhi University colleges?

SG
Simran Ghosh Posted On : October 29th, 2021
studied B.Sc Hons Physics, MBA, from University of Delhi
Each college at DU has a creamy layer to it. From rigorous admission processes to high cut-offs, the university manages to keep the colleges at the same level.  No college can be termed as worst because it completely depends on the students, faculty, and the administration. Also, infrastructure does not play a great role in deciding the reputation of any college. There are many top institutes that lack in terms of facilities but still manage to stay on top. A college will only be worst if the students are not motivated towards learning or aspiring to do new things. It will be then just a waste of time and money. Students from all over the country choose DU over any college or university.  You may find bad reviews about colleges like Ramanujan, PGDAV, Shradhanand, etc., but it is just a matter of time before their improvement.

How are the placements in Delhi university?

AS
Ashwini Singh Posted On : October 29th, 2021
studied B.Com from University of Delhi (2017)
Placements at Delhi University will vary from college to college and nobody will have an actual idea while applying for colleges with high cut-offs. In terms of placements, Miranda, KMC, SRCC, Hindu, Gargi, LSR, Venkateswar, and others are top colleges. Top companies including Big 4s visit these colleges for placement drives. The packages will obviously depend on your skills and performance in the interview.  In the past, students have received decent to amazing salary packages depending on their college rankings. The top profiles that have been offered include Analyst, Associate, Audit Associate, and many more. The colleges situated in North and South campuses are best known for placements. The highest salary package in the recent placement drive was offered in Hindu College (29 LPA) and LSR College (39.5 LPA). However, if you are from an off-campus college, then the opportunities will be slightly different. The profiles that will be offered are Customer Service Executive, Process Associate, or Cabin Crew.  You must study well and score a good score in exams. It will help you in applying for in-office internships and gaining work experience.

Which university is better DU, PU or Jammu University?

RS
Rana Mukesh Singh Posted On : October 27th, 2021
B.Sc Honours Zoology from University of Delhi
It entirely depends on which course you are choosing. However, overall DU is definitely better than PU and Jammu University. The academics and faculty base are almost the same at these universities. However, academics are not the only influencing factor in the overall development of students. Curriculum, exposure, and other additional things also play crucial roles.   At DU, you will have great exposure. DU has many societies like dance society, fashion society, debating society, etc. If you have any passion, you can explore it at DU.  The peer group at DU is also better.  If we speak generally, for the given institutes, your preference order should be DU>PU>Jammu University.

What is the minimum cutoff for admission in Delhi University?

SK
Sonia Kashyap Posted On : October 26th, 2021
studied M.A in English from Hindu College, University of Delhi (2021)
The cut-off depends on your choice of course and college. It varies every year and it can be as high as 99% and as low as 40%. To give you a rough idea of DU Cut off, you require at least 94% marks for admission to science subjects. For commerce stream courses like B.Com, you must have scored 94% in the top 4 subjects including a language. On the other hand, the cut-off for Humanities subjects must be between 90-92%. If you are interested in doing Hindi (Hons) or Sanskrit (Hons), the cut-off is very low for these programs. You can easily get a seat at St.Stephens with 66% marks in Sanskrit (Hons). For South Campus, you can reduce 2-3% from the ones mentioned above. Take a look at the previous year’s DU cut-off for better understanding.

What is it like to do English Hons from Delhi University?

MB
Manav Batra Posted On : October 25th, 2021
studied at University of Delhi
If you are a reading enthusiast and loves to write with a great hold of Grammar, go for English Hons. You should not choose this as your 2nd option because the course is very hectic and requires a lot of concentration and interest.  English Hons is often misunderstood only with British Literature which is not true. You will be reading literature around the world including American, African, European, and Indian.  You must be regular to lectures as they are highly recommended. The faculty at Delhi University for this course is exceptional and their teachings should not be missed. You may find everything online but attending classes has its own advantages.  You will definitely enjoy your experience in the classes while interacting with teachers. It is important to note that your attendance will play a major role in internal assessment.

Which is better BHU or DU?

SG
Shubhanshu Gupta Posted On : October 6th, 2021
Economics from Banaras Hindu University (2018)
Having known some people studying in both these institutions, I can say that both are equally good in their own way. They both are established institutions and well recognized. Let me share some facts about them, which might help you make your decision. DU: In the fields of arts, commerce, and management, the best faculty and teachers are available.  The value of a DU certificate is great. Campus life is full of excitement. DU has more to offer (apart from academics) than any other campus in India. It is home to prominent India institutions such as SRCC, LSR, Miranda House, Hindu College, Hansraj, St. Stephens, and many others. IIT BHU: BHU has six institutions, 14 faculties (streams), and around 140 departments. It has Asia’s largest campus. With its own budgets, management, and academic bodies, the institutes are administratively autonomous. BHU has the most research centers in the globe and the number one in the country. It has all-encompassing research centers for all subjects. It is home to renowned Medical Science, Arts, etc.  Categories IIT BHU DU Course Fee 8.35 lakh 1.47 lakh Placement Percentage 80% 80-90% Highest CTC 27 LPA 22-24 LPA Average CTC 13 LPA 11-16 LPA Lowest CTC 6.93 LPA 6 LPA Recruiting Companies Cognizant, IBM, TCS, Wipro, etc. TCS, Microsoft, Infosys, Deloitte, etc. In the government jobs sector, a certificate is more valuable than any other. Campus life is more rigid than at DU, yet one may enjoy the Ganges, ghats, galis, malls, temples, and metropolis all at the same time, something that is not possible in Delhi. So choose accordingly.
