How is mathematics at SVNIT?

KC
Kiran Chugh Posted On : May 29th, 2021

Mathematics at SVNIT is not great. According to my sister studying there, the teaching way is not good.

  • In the first year, you will only be given a cookie-cutter solution instead of making you understand why a particular idea works or where it can be applied.
  • In the fourth semester, your time will be wasted by deriving basic three theorems, each four pages long. You would be expected to do rote learning.
  • Even though Fourier Analysis is the crux of all modern technology. Data analysis techniques are parallel to PCA in many ways. Not more than a week is dedicated to it.
  • Former students were advised to buy a book by Kachot which is full of errors and to just rote learn all the questions and get full points on the exams.
  • A better book by B. S. Grewal can help you to understand concepts like ODEs and the Taylor Expansion.
  • The test just includes the derivations of the three theorems. If you had not memorized the theorems, in no way, the paper could be completed on time.

The Mathematics Department is very disappointing. The lecturers do not teach well and they barely understand the material themselves. They are also quite lazy about their responsibilities towards their students.

How do I clear maths papers in Anna University exams?

BN
Bharat Nataranjan Posted On : December 16th, 2022
Studied Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science and Engineering at Siddaganga Institute of Technology (Graduated 2022)

The key to clear Math papers at Anna University is studying the previous 5 years question papers thoroughly. Firstly determine which are the main topics covered repeatedly and start practicing them. Learn all the important formulas You can also refer to the internal tests paper in your college. If you compare the internal paper with the previous year's papers you will find certain topics are repeatedly asked. These topics demand the most focus.

Apart from this if you have any class notes try solving those questions. You can also refer to the previous year's questions mentioned in the math textbooks. Refer to local authors only as they will be more than enough.

Lastly, a practical subject like Math requires a lot of practice.

What are the best mathematics books for UPTU or AKTU?

AV
Atul Verma Posted On : November 17th, 2022
B.Tech. from Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (Graduated 2019)

The external exams at AKTU are more like CBSE exams as they don’t put much effort in changing the pattern of the paper. The purpose of university exams is to check your knowledge in a particular subject and not compete. So they don’t give out of syllabus questions.

You don’t have to refer to high-tech competitive books. The best books for these exams are:

  • Engineering Mathematics by N.P. Bali

  • Introduction to Engineering Mathematics by H.K. Das

  • Previous year papers

  • Quantum Publication

This study material is enough to get you well through the AKTU exams.

Which college is better for Maths (hons) Deen Dayal Upadhyaya or Sri Venkateswara College?

GV
Geeta Verma Posted On : November 26th, 2021
studied at Sri Venkateswara College, Delhi University (2017)

Among Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College (DDUC) or Sri Venkateswara College (SVC) it will be better if you go for SVC.

Here are some reasons:

  • SVC is located in the South campus and is considered one of the best colleges under DU.
  • DDUC is a much newer establishment and has not yet reached SVCs level of popularity.
  • SVC is also known for its brand which gives an upper hand during off campus placements.
  • The Mathematics department in SVC is the best. DDUC is not even close to its standard.
  • SVC has a well experienced and respected faculty.
  • The crowd at SVC is also very competitive, which maintains a proper educational atmosphere in the campus.
Categories DDUC SVC
Course Fee INR 45,150 INR 36,348
Average CTC 4-6 LPA 2.5-5 LPA
Recruiting Companies DE Shaw, Byju’s, etc. KPMG, Deloitte, EY, etc.

Therefore, it is suggested you go for SVC as it will provide you with better exposure and opportunities.

How is the mathematics department of NIT Jalandhar for MSc students?

HY
Himanshu Yadav Posted On : December 8th, 2022
Integrated M.S from National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (Graduated 2020)

The Mathematics department of NIT Jalandhar is newly established and so not at par with the M.Tech. department. The faculty is not that experienced either and you will find assistant teachers more. Most of the NITs don't have faculties of varied expertise for the MSc program. Moreover, placements are also just average. Most of the students apply for teaching jobs or Ph.D. So opt MSc in Mathematics only if it is your last choice. But if you have already joined it or are adamant about joining it then these tips will help you make the most of the course:

  • Keep in touch with the Mathematics fraternity around the world

  • Attend Mathematics seminars and conferences which will give you a better understanding of the subject and its applications.

  • Initiate things on your own during college seminars, departmental events, or technical fests.

  • Lastly, focus on your academics

You can make the most out of the resources of this department even if it is lacking in many aspects.

Is Mathematics required for MCA admission in Jadavpur University?

AC
Abhishek Chauhan Posted On : February 16th, 2023
PGDM/MBA from S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) (Graduated 2021)

Yes, you can get admission to MCA in Jadavpur University even if you have not studied Mathematics in class 12 provided that you have completed BCA. Subsequently, the requirements for MCA are

  • The candidate must have studied Mathematics in class 12

Or

  • The candidate must have completed the BCA

BCA curriculum includes Maths based electives and therefore does not make it necessary to have studied Mathematics in class 12. Candidates coming from BSc or BCom must have studied mathematics necessarily in class 12.

One major advantage of doing an MCA after BCA is that you get to choose between a 2-year MCA and a 3-year MCA. which is also known as literal entry specially for the students who are coming from Computer Science based graduation.

To be on the safer side, you can again give exams by filling out the NIOS form (National institute of open schooling) and can give exams for mathematics. In case your Bachelor subjects are not considered this Certificate will come to use.

Yes, in fact Bachelors is necessary for any Masters course. So in order to get admission in MSc Financial Mathematics, you will have to complete Bachelors in Financial Mathematics first.

Now coming to your question, Honors in Margs is necessary for admission in MSc Financial Mathematics, I don't think so because I have many friends who are pursuing MSc in Financial Mathematics despites graduating from universities that don’t even offer Honors in Maths. I think all you need is a graduation in Maths.

For detailed information look up on the official website of MSU or contact an alumni.

Is mathematics in IISc Bangalore at par with CMI?

AS
Anirban Sarkar Posted On : March 30th, 2022
Chennai Mathematical Institute (2016)

CMI offers a more Mathematics oriented program. For pure Mathematics, it is a better option.

  • CMI curriculum has Maths/CS, and Maths/Physics options. At IISc first three semesters are common. During these semesters you will be studying Engineering, Material Science, EVS, Humanities, etc.
  • CMI Maths syllabus is more theory-oriented. You will get to learn abstract concepts. IISc follows a more balanced curriculum. During the first three years, you will need to attend both theory and lab classes.

CMI Maths framework and teaching methodology are more suited for students who are genuinely interested in Mathematics.
