The worth of an IGNOU degree can be determined in several ways:

• Under its legitimacy as a degree. (Accredited by UGC and AICTE)
• Under its eligibility for government jobs (Almost all govt jobs)
• The caliber of its course curriculum (Yes, It has one of the updated courses with the latest trends)
• Because of its reputation in the private sector. A large number of bright students who are unable to attend regular courses for various reasons attend them.
• Because of its teaching methodology. (They provide distance education, but they engage you for a full year with assignments, projects, exams, and weekend classes.)

However, if you compare the quality of knowledge inducted in distance course vs regular course, you will find that regular course provides better exposure. Any job is dependent on the candidate's skills, and if you are talented enough to learn the necessary skills, finding work will be easy. One must not blame a degree if you are a mediocre learner.

MSU is a public university owned by the State Government of Gujarat. It is the only University in Gujarat whose Vice Chancellor is from the royal family of Baroda and not the governor of the state. The departments available at the university include Arts, Education and Psychology, Commerce, Technology and Engineering, Law. Some courses offered by the various faculties of the university are tabulated below-

IMT Ghaziabad distance learning MBA (PGDM) program is one of the top-ranked distance learning management programs in India. This 2-year program is recognized by UGC-DEB and AICTE. The 3 programs that have been approved by AICTE are

1. Two-Year Post-Graduate Diploma in Management
2. Fifteen Months Post-Graduate Diploma in Management (Executive)
3. One Year Post-Graduate Certificate in Management

IMT CDL was recognized by AICTE to offer post-graduate management programs on 30th April 2019 for the academic year 2019-2020 through open and distance learning modes. Ever since then, these programs are in great demand.

Before I share my sister's experience let me clarify something. Corporations do not care if the Institute you pursued MBA from is AICTE or UGC approved or not. They consider MBA degrees as diplomas and titles attached to the candidates for namesake only.

My sister wanted to become a professor at a university. In that light, she cleared NET and applied to DU. But they did not accept her as she did not have an MBA degree. They suggested she get one from a prestigious B School like IIM Ahmedabad. She right away changed her mind about becoming a university professor. So from her experience, we can derive the following conclusions 

• Even the top IIMs don’t grant degrees but diplomas. The fact that they are AICTE-approved or not rarely matters. It’s just the name of the Institute that matters.
• If you are inclined towards a profession that requires a degree or recognition from top B schools like IIMA, only then the degree and the institute's worth become important. Most recruiters don’t care if the institutes are recognized by AICTE or UGC or not.

So look at other factors while considering if the high fees are worth it or not rather than the Institute’s accreditation.

In terms of seniority, IMI New Delhi has more experience. The college has been around since 1981 while IIM Shillong is a newly established business school and also commonly known as one of the new IIMs. 

Ranking and Accreditation

• IMI New Delhi has AMBA accreditation which implies that the college follows international standards. 
• These accreditations are hard to acquire and maintain. With these, the quality of the programme offered at the college is good and relevant. 
• AMBA accreditation means that the college can hold student exchange programmes with some of the top universities in the world.
• As far as Indian ranking is concerned, IMI New Delhi was ranked 28 by the NIRF for Management while IIM Shillong was ranked 30 by the same institution.

In terms of recognition in the US, both colleges have the same reputation and recognition abroad. While business schools like IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta overshadow all the other business schools in the US.

Both IMI New Delhi and IIM Shillong have more or less the same reputation and recognition abroad while the former has AMBA accreditation as well. However, IIM A-B-C are well-known and respected more than these 2 institutions.
