LIFE AT NLUO BACK AT 2012

Remarks :

A person needs to appear for the Common Law Admission Test to be eligible for admission to NLUO on a merit and rank basis. The candidate must have a minimum of 60 % in 12th to be eligible for admission as well. Reservation is provided as per reservation policies in India, and there is an additional state quota for those from Odisha. The application form can be found on the website of CLAT.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The faculties are well-established professionals who all have doctorates. The course of BA LLB is a general course, that spans 5 years, giving exposure to all kinds of civil and criminal and other kinds of laws on land. The course curriculum enables one to choose what to align oneself with in the future, and exams and classes are conducted as per the curriculum.

Placement Experience :

Law colleges as such don't [provide placements in a holistic way like B-schools or engineering schools. Although there exist tie-ups with top tier firms especially when it is an NLU, and other banks and companies. Considering litigation exists many students don't opt for placements.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fee hike is a systematic process. In 2012 the fees were somewhere around 1,75,000 per year including the hostel and mess. There is financial assistance available in the college for economically weaker section people. The overall cost ranged around 14 lacs from 2012-2017, which can vary at the moment.

Campus Life :

The institution is situated amidst nature on the outskirts of Cuttack. The place is secluded but beautiful and has its charms. The campus spans over 70 acres with amazing facilities for sports, with modern classrooms. However, considering its been 10 years the college is still under construction and the library building is yet to be functional even in a decade.

Hostel Facilities :

The students are provided with single-occupancy rooms. Considering the fees charged the facilities in hostels are decent although they could be better. The food menu although doesn't lack variety needs improvement in terms of hygiene and quality. However, this is a review till 2017, the same might be different at the moment. Taking hostel accommodation is compulsory.

I wanted to practice as a lawyer and choose law as my career so I have decided to take the course. We have the best faculty and retired professor and various experience judges to teach us they even teach us practically by taking us to the court. We have term exams every six months and yes if we are attending the classes it's not that difficult to pass.

I choose this course because of my interest in law and the beautiful environment of the campus. The faculty in our university provides very insightful experiences of theirs from their university life and help us very well to go ahead with our studies. They also help us well with our research projects and publications if at we want to publish our papers. Our college faculty is always there to help students with their various endeavors. The teaching method followed is through classroom discussion, guest lectures visiting our campus, and PowerPoint presentations. NLUO has two semesters per year and we have both mid-semesters and end-semesters conducted every semester along with Internal Continous Evaluation.
