Remarks :
For our admission, we were asked to visit their office in Park Street and sign all the necessary papers works. Taking into account, all the paperwork and prospectus, the admission process cost for me was Rs. 74,500. This amount may vary in today's date, with an estimated inflation of 5 % on what I have already stated. To be eligible for Electrical Engineering, I had to score a rank of 27,500 in West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE). As I had no reservations, I am unclear on the matter. Overall, when taking admission into B.P Poddar, you need to be ready for a physical visit, along with four to five hours of paperwork and waiting, which is the only thing I wish would change. Also, you are to carry 4 copies of your photo, mark sheet xerox, identity proofs ( Voter, aadhar, PAN ), and their xerox. As the office is in Park Street, as long as you have the original documents (Mail sent by them), you can xerox them nearby.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Electrical Engineering is a field with many scopes, including the scope for M. Tech in the future, getting a chance to prepare for Gate, and learning the core dynamics of Engineering. This factor led me to choose this stream in the first place. Also, in B.P. Poddar, in the stream of Electrical Engineering, you will find a gender ratio of 7 :3 (Female: Male) for teachers and 85 % of male students enrolled in the stream. The faculty is very supportive, starting from labs to theory classes. Also, you will find one teacher or the other to help you whenever you need it. Our teachers are a minimum of B.Tech qualified and range up to Ph.D. There is the inclusion of the Smart Teaching method, using both the traditional blackboard, with the white smart board. We are even encouraged to present topics in a ppt as a part of our examination to find our speaking and presenting skills. Overall, there is four 25 marks examination, followed by a semester exam of 70 marks.
Placement Experience :
For placements, the eligibility is from the 5th semester, as companies come with various exams. The official drive begins in our 7th sem, which lasts for a year. We have seen Infosys, Cognizant, PWC, EY, Accenture, IBM, and such companies that help us get placed. Their packages average out at around 5LPA. We have seen the highest package from Maventic so far, with 7 LPA, and have around 90 % placed students. After my degree, I intend to join PwC full-time.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The fee structure here is pretty straightforward. Fees are to be paid every six months, rounding it up to a total of 8 payments to the college. It kicks off at 45100(2019 1st sem fee) to a hike of 48400(2023 last sem fee). There are many scholarships, such as Swami Vivekananda Scholarship available for us. There are many other governments as well as non-government scholarships available for all. Also, for the financially weaker section, there is a TFW quota, to help the poor, yet talented study, without having to worry about any fees. Coming to my placement, I am currently placed in Pwc India with a package of 6.6 Lakh per annum. It is a consulting firm.
Campus Life :
Elixir. That is the fest that occurs once every 4 years and hence scales up quite a bit. There are many tech fests and hackathons all around the year, which can happen at any given time. Also, there are freshers' welcome events every year. The library is full of books of different domains, which can be issued for 6 months at maximum. At a time, only 6 books can be issued in total. For extracurricular activities, there are cricket and football tournaments, with arrangements for table tennis and carrom on campus. Also, volleyball takes a place on the list. There are many social groups such as Kalakriti(Art Forum) and many others who organize all the events.
Hostel Facilities :
The hostel is one place we would avoid. Bad rooms with very bad quality maintenance. Also, 5400 per month is overpriced for a room of four with three very bad quality meals per day, and also to fit four people in a room with wooden walls. The meal quality is very mad, with the meat being one of the worst I have known in my life. Hostel registration takes place in the hostel itself, and for me is overpriced and not very affordable. However, near our college is a PG, called White House PG, located in Loknath Mandir, which is the total opposite, and for only 2000 per month (as of 2023), is a fully furnished room, with adequate space. Also, the owners are very good, and supportive in everything. As for me, I would recommend White House PG but stay away from the hostel, where the rooms stink, with underlighting, and with a very bad culture. I will drop my rented accommodation for review since the hostel is not even worth a star.
