VGEC Chandkheda - A Complete Review

Remarks :

VGEC is a GTU-affiliated institute. So all the admission process is carried out by GTU only. For admission, we have to give STD 12th Gujarat Board Exam and a state-level entrance test known as 'GUJCET'. On the basis of the 60-40% ratio of these two exams, our merit is decided and thus a rank is given to us known as 'ACPC Rank' (Just as there is AIR in JEE). On the basis of this rank, admission is given to colleges. Higher the rank, the higher the college you get. The admission process is carried out in 4 rounds(at least at our time, it was 4. Now it might be 3. I am not sure). In this round merit of this institute generally remain between rank 850-1600 So if your rank is between this range, chances are that you are eligible to get admission to VGEC.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Information Technology and Computer Science are the two booming fields of our times. So if you are capable of making it into these fields, definitely you should not miss out. There are around 80 students in our class(in IT). There are two divisions in CS(Computer Science) each having nearly 80 students(a total of around 160 students in CS). There are 6 subjects in one semester, however, there need not be six strictly (one above or below) for some subjects, there are 3 faculties for three different batches, and in some subjects, there is 2 fac. And for some, there is only one faculty. Professors here are very experienced and have a very good interaction with us. They constantly arrange seminars and hackathons for students, so that we can compete within ourselves and a positive atmosphere is built. The exams are conducted on time. So, in IT Dept, there are 3 exams - Class Test, Mid Test and the final Semester Exam which is taken by GTU. Class & Mid tests are taken by the college itself.

Internships Opportunities :

Companies come in the 6th sem for giving internships. 6th and 8th sem is for internship and then they give us a placement offer We need to prepare projects in our field to show companies that we have done something.

Placement Experience :

Companies generally come in the 8th sem but some also come in the 6th sem. So students can be placed in 6th sem too if they are prepared. Companies like TCS, Wipro, L&T, Oracle, Torrent etc and many more local companies visit our campus. Just last year, a Delhi-based tech company offered the highest package in the history of VGEC which was of 21 lahks per annum to a computer science student. The average package is 4-5 LPA for CS/IT/EC students and 2-4 LAP for other branches. Approx 50% of students get placed in VGEC. I am thinking of going abroad for further studies.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Fees - ?1500 per year(excluding hostel and exam fees) There are various scholarships available for students, not by the college but from various institutions and Gujarat Government such as Reliance Foundation Scholarship, Kotak Scholarship, MYSY scholarship etc.

Campus Life :

There is one great called TechXIT which is organised by the IT department. Most journals and manuals are to be purchased from outside only. The classroom has fans, tube lights and a projector. A sports event is organised every year known as the 'Vishwa Cup'. In this, all departments compete with each other. There is NSS, NCC, Photography club and drama club as extracurricular activities. GDSC VGEC is a tech club started this year only and offered by Google.

Hostel Facilities :

The bedsheet has to be brought by ourselves. The bed is given by them. Food consists of two dishes - one is a half dish(?30) includes either 'Roti-Sabzi' or 'Dal-rice' and the other is a full dish(?50) which includes Roti, Sabzi, Dal, Rice and Cha. (Individual glass of chaos is off? 5). Food quality depends on you. Usually, it takes 6 months or a year to set to the food of mess. But it is good(served hot). hostel admission is given on merit. Generally, it closes in the first two rounds of admission. PGs are available near the college. You can just google it.

Placement Experience:

The college has a dedicated placement call that works towards the training and placement of the students. The placement cell organizes various training programs, seminars, and workshops to enhance the employability of the students The cell also invites various companies to the campus for recruitment drives According to the previous year's placement records of the college, the students have been placed in reputed companies like Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Intel, Infosys, Wipro, TCS, and many more. The average package offered to the students ranges from 3.5 lakhs to 8 lakhs per annum, depending on the branch of study and the academic performance of the student. It's important to note that the placement of students also depends on their Individual skills, knowledge, and performance. Therefore, it's essential for the students to have a strong academic foundation and also develop practical skills that are required by the industry.
