JNU: ups and downs

P

Remarks :

The eligibility for the course is one should have passed the 10+2 exam. The application form came in the month of Feb and was valid till March. The fee was minimal ( about 250 rupees). The form was available on the official website as well as on different educational sites. The exam also follows the reservation terms which I availed i.e. category reservation (SC). The process was quite smooth.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I am doing my graduation in the Spanish language. The reason for taking this course was basically the popularity of this language. The center currently has about 170 students in total with 6 professors to guide them. All of the professors hold the degree of Ph.D. in the language and have got a good amount of experience even in foreign universities. The term papers were kind of hectic ( uneven schedule due to covid) in the first two years. But now everything is proper. The difficulty was average.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Although the fee hike had a negative response which was obvious considering the percentage of increase. But as all the universities go, it is still safe to say that JNU is the cheapest of them. One can also avail of the mcm scholarship based on the yearly income of his/her family. Although there aren't any jobs that you get on campus, opportunities for freelancing are there for the students.

Campus Life :

The campus doesn't organize an annual fest. But still, the days are quite eventful. One can always find cultural or educational events happening. The library is quite monstrous with thousands of books and ample space for self-study. The classrooms are equipped with the needed materials. JNU also organizes many sports events in which students compete as a team representing their hostels or centers. There are groups for poetry, dancing and singing, adventures, and many more run by the students.

Hostel Facilities :

The size of the rooms is average with the basic necessities provided in it i.e. bed, cupboard, fan, table, and chair. Each hostel has its own mess with a menu that is very diverse. The quality of the food is ever-changing. One can avail of hostel facilities at a cheap rate of about 3000 a year. If one wants to rent a room, the nearest places are Munirka and Vasant Kunj.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course because I was from PCM (science) background in 12th board and I literally wanted to shift in the course of the art. And science students always look for what best subject in art which is ECONOMICS and we choose this. And the second reason is Economics is something challenging and It provides you to think bigger and know about the money and market. So these are the reason I selected this course. My class has 40 students and except for the Micro teacher, No one teaches very well. We are the first batch of CUET and we just got approx. 3 months to prepare for the semester with an increase in the subject. So that is always hard when you are getting experimented with new things.

Placement Experience:

Students from 2nd year or 5th semester are eligible for pre-placement offers. However, 1st-year students are eligible for internship opportunities only. Around 40 companies visited campus with their placement offers for Bcom. Hons, Bcom, B.A Hons Economics, & some BSc courses. Companies included some Big4 companies like KPMG, Deloitte, E&Y, Wipro, HCL & many more. My plan after getting the degree is to go for MBA or MA in Economics.

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible from the 6th sem to sit for placements. Companies offering 6 lac to 37 lac visit the campus every year. I was placed in a multinational company with a very good package. People from stats maths and eco courses have higher chances of placement though.

Placement Experience:

From the first year onwards we are eligible for internship opportunities by internship cell. During our 6th sem, we are eligible for job interviews. The placement cell is working hard to review their work in a well-mannered form but still, they lag in bringing big companies to college for on-campus placement drives. Companies like byjus, Genpact, etc. came for placements and they offer full-time jobs for 4-6 lacs package varying from the post they offer. The highest package could go up to 7-8 lacs and on average it's 2 lacs. They offered a various range of profiles to get into. The percentage should be more than 65% at least to get the final placement done smoothly. Plans for graduation are going for higher students in this subject only who want to have a PhD degree.

Course Curriculum Overview:

All faculty members were helpful throughout the course and encouraged me to excel in other domains as well. But some teachers just didn't care about the students and were attending classes just for the sake of it. My college was a girl college and there were some male and more female faculty members. Exams were conducted according to the academic calendar released by the college before the start of the semester.
