Ques. How can I qualify the JNU entrance exam in MA in Politics with International Relations?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 18 Oct 21

Ans. In order to prepare efficiently for JNU entrance, you will need to study smart. Read the editorial and international relations page of Hindu and IE to get a fair idea of what is happening around the globe. Read Arihant’s guide for JNU entrance for IR. Rafer to some good magazines like Frontline, EPW, etc.  The exam of JNU Entrance would be computer-based and Multiple Choice Questions would be asked. Make sure to study the following crucial portion of International Relations (IR).  Period of Cold War Treaties like CTBT, NPT, Kyoto Protocol United Nations Bretton Woods Institutions (IMF, WB, WTO) Environment Topics like Climate Change Indian Foreign Policy US Foreign Policy The majority of questions in entrance will be from History, Economics, International Relations, Philosophy, Indian Politics, and Contemporary Issues. Here are some books that you can refer to.  The Globalization of World Politics - Baylis, Smith & Owens. India after Gandhi - Ramachandra Guha International Relations in the 21st Century - Pushpesh Pant Global Politics - Andrew Heywood Just prepare thoroughly without losing faith in yourself and be honest with your studies and you shall do well in your entrance. Read more

Ques. How do I prepare for the JNU M.A. sociology entrance?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 18 Oct 21

Ans. I have a friend who did his master’s from JNU and he was able to give some insight regarding the entrance test for MA Sociology.  In the entrance examination, there will be questions from out of the syllabus. You may be asked to give a sociological interpretation of the current situation, event, etc. So, stay updated with contemporary social issues. Here is a list of sections from where you can expect questions. Sociological Thought: Marx, Durkheim. Weber, Parsons, Spencer, Comte, etc. Research Methodology and techniques Indian Society: Poverty, Family, Kinship, etc. Society and polity Society and economy Technology Caste and class system Concepts like Globalization, Modernization, Sanskritization, and Localization. Go through the list of topics assisted to you and make sure you prepare them thoroughly. As you can see the majority of the questions are from the syllabus itself.Read more

Ques. How do I go about choosing between JNU and DSE for MA Economics?

● Top Answer By Sandhya R on 18 Oct 21

Ans. Both the courses are distinct from one another. At DSE, they train you rigorously in mathematics. And this is an important part of your journey but that is about the only part DSE focuses on. Economic theory at DSE will give you an edge over a lot of other institutions and get your foot in the door inside a lot of big names in finance. Now coming to JNU, they don’t give a lot of emphasis on Maths but they make sure you read a lot more than you will read at DSE. This means you build a well-rounded view of the world and how economies function. This is a good thing as it will help you very much in mainstream research and things like journalism where you need to know a lot of things.  Also, at JNU reading thoroughly is a part of the curriculum which is not the same in DSE. With the curriculum at JNU, you will discover different schools of thought and learn to think for yourself.  Overall, choosing JNU will be better.Read more

Ques. How do I prepare for the JNU entrance exam for an MA in history?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 18 Oct 21

Ans. JNU entrance examination for History is divided into two parts.  Part 1 - Comprehension:  For the comprehension section, you will be given a passage. There will be questions based on the passage. There is no definite way to prepare for this section. The passages given are random. However, you can practice from comprehension passages available at bookstores. Part 2: Part 2 will have 12-15 questions, out of which, you will need to answer any 3. The questions are based on History but are very broad in general. In the past popular questions were from Sufism, the Bhakti movement, ideas of gender in ancient India, etc. It’s tough to cover such a broad range of topics. Here are some of the reference books that may be of help. A History of India by Romila Thapar is great for the basics of Ancient India. Upinder Singh’s Text on Ancient India is also good. Satish Chandra - A History of Medieval India and his volume of collected essays are great for medieval India. From Plassey to Partition by Sekhar Bandyopadhyay covers modern India.  The Mughal Empire by J.F. Richards covers Mughal pretty well. Cambridge Economic History of India is great for economic history questions. The questions asked are mostly from History but there will also be some general questions. JNU papers are quite unpredictable. If you go through the previous year’s questions, you will see how erratic the questions can be. But with a cool head and strategic time management, you can definitely do well in the examination. You don’t need to write overtly long answers. All you need to do is show them that you know your stuff. That’s what your answers should represent.Read more

Ques. Is Patna University comparable to Jawaharlal University?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 06 Oct 21

Ans. More than 80% of the female students of Patna University and in the colleges under the same like Magadh Mahila College, P Women’s College, PSC, etc. They promote the education of women. Patna University is backed by the state government and is one of the 20 best universities in the country.  Through scholarships, you can make the most of your tenure as a student at this university.  At Patna University, there is almost zero tolerance between the faculty and the students.  The few good professors in the university do not help much in giving the university a good name. In the case of Jawaharlal Nehru University, however, you will be taught by some of the most qualified and experienced teachers in the country.  You will not feel like you are left out.  The classrooms are vibrant and interactive and the university helps you in nurturing your skills.  You will guarantee yourself a good career if you choose JNU. Categories Patna University Jawaharlal Nehru University Placement Percentage 60-80% 80-90% Highest CTC 16-18 LPA 22-28 LPA Average CTC 3-6 LPA 15-16 LPA The highest package offered to the students of JNU can be as high as INR 12-15 LPA. Some of the top recruiters include Oracle, Siemens, Wipro, Cognizant, Google, Amazon, etc. Comparing Patna University and JNU might not be justified, as both stand in different leagues of colleges.Read more
