IIIT Delhi offers full-time PhD program to both regular and sponsored candidates. IIIT Delhi PhD program is specialized in 6 courses namely Computational Biology (CB), Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE), Mathematics, Social Sciences & Humanities (SSH), Human-Centred Design (HCD). Minimum eligibility required to get admission is a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the relevant subject. Admission to the doctoral program is granted on the basis of a Written Test followed by a Personal Interview.

IIIT Delhi PhD Eligibility Criteria

Candidates will be eligible to apply for the Ph. D course if they fulfill the following criteria:

Specializations Eligibility
Computational Biology (CB) Candidates must have a valid score for GATE/ GPAT/ NET/ JRF, and must have a B. Tech/ BE/ B. Pharm/ M. Pharm/ M. Tech/ MS/Other engineering degrees with CGPA 6.5 or 6.0.
Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Candidates must have a B.Tech/ BE/ M.Tech/ MS/ ME in CSE/ IT/ ECE/ EE degree with a CGPA of at least 7.5 on a scale of 10 or 70%.
Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE)
Mathematics Students must have a valid score in JRF from either UGC/CSIR/NBHM/DST or GATE score at least 400 and MSc(Maths)/ MSc (Physics)/ MSc(Statistics)/ MStat/ MPhil(Maths)/ BTech/ MTech/ BE / ME in CS/ ECE/ Maths & CS and similar inter-disciplinary programs with a CGPA of at least 7.5 or 70% in UG and PG
Social Sciences & Humanities (SSH) Sociology / Anthropology: M.A./MSc/MPhil in, Sociology or Anthropology BTech/MTech. in any discipline and/or MBA with a strong interest in sociology/anthropology. With CGPA of at least 7.0 out of 10 for B.Tech degree holders, or at least 55% marks for MA/MSc degree holders
Economics: M.A./MSc/MPhil in Economics, Statistics, or Mathematics. BTech/MTech. in any discipline and/or MBA with a strong interest in economics. With CGPA of at least 7.0 out of 10 for B.Tech degree holders, or at least 55% marks for MA/MSc degree holders
Human-Centred Design (HCD), Candidates must have the marks requirement is CGPA of 7.5 on a scale of 10 (or equivalent) or 70%.UG or PG Engineering degrees in CSE/ECE/Design/Architecture/ Social Science or other related disciplines. OR B.Des/M.Des OR MBBS/MD/MPh. OR MCA OR M.Sc/M.A. degree in design or computing-related disciplines.

IIIT Delhi PhD Admission 2023

Admission to IIIT Delhi PhD program is based on the performance of the written test and interview. The admission takes place in two rounds, Monsoon (February to April) and Winter (September to November). The admission process is solely online. There are two modes of Application Procedure, for students are Rolling Admission and Regular Round Admission. 

  • The Rolling Admission is about the candidates who have clear ideas of the area they want to work in. Such students first need to consult the respective faculty members of IIIT Delhi and will have to go through the full selection process before getting admission in the Ph. D Program. 
  • The second category is the Regular Admissions where the admission takes place twice a year.

There are two categories of Admission, one is Regular Ph. D, for those who are not holding any kind of regular employment and are primarily in their academic program. And the other one is Sponsored Ph. D, for those who are working in the sponsored organization but are highly motivated to take up Ph. D degree while they are working.

Application process at IIIT Delhi for PhD program is online. Candidates are required to apply online through the official website within the given period of time. Application fee charged for registration is INR 300 for unreserved category and INR 150 for reserved category.

IIIT Delhi PhD Stipend

Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi provides fellowship for the students enrolling themselves for the Ph. D course. They get a monthly stipend of Rupees 31,000 in the first 2 years. They will get Rupees 35,000/- stipend for 3 and 4th years. The 5th year stipend is rupees 30,000.
