Nirma University LLM Eligibility Criteria

Candidates interested in the LLM program of Nirma University should satisfy the following eligibility criteria:

  • Candidates should have a valid LLB (General)/ LLB (Special) or LLB (Five-year integrated course) or its equivalent degree recognized by Bar Council of India with a minimum of 55% marks aggregate marks (or equivalent cumulative grade point index).
  • Candidates appearing/ appearing in the final year examinations of their respective degrees or waiting for their results are also eligible to apply for the LLM program. However, candidates must also satisfy the eligibility criteria as set by the university.
  • Candidates (except supernumerary quota candidates) should appear for and qualify the CLAT PG entrance exam.

Nirma University LLM Admission Guidelines

Admissions to LLM at Nirma University are based on the academic performance of candidates and entrance scores followed by personal interviews conducted by the university itself. 

  • The admission process is based on the following weightage criteria:
    • LLB marks: 70% weightage
    • Personal Interview: 30% weightage
  • The university in addition to entrance scores also considers work experience, statement of purpose, and publications of the candidates for admissions.
  • Non-PG-CLAT candidates are also eligible to apply for the LLM program of Nirma University, provided such candidates are required to appear for the All India PG ILNU Entrance Test.
  • Foreign students with Non-Indian passports (FN) or foreign students having Non-Indian passports along with the OCI or PIO card (OCI / PIO) can apply under OCI / PIO / FN supernumerary category. The university has 10% of the total seats reserved for such candidates.
  • International students whose parents are currently working in Gulf countries or South-east Asia can apply under CIWGC-SEA supernumerary category. The university has 5% of the total seats reserved for these students.
  • Candidates belonging to supernumerary quota CIWGC-SEA/ PIO/ FN are given admissions on the basis of qualifying marks of their examinations only, i.e, and academic merit. Such candidates are exempted from the entrance test.
  • The university will release merit lists after the entrance test's result declaration.
  • Candidates whose name appears in the list are required to appear for interview rounds for final admissions.

Course Duration: LLM course is provided for 1 academic year which is divided into 3 trimesters. The duration of 1 trimester is 12 to 14 weeks. 

Components of Course: The academic year comprises of below-mentioned components:

Examinations: Examinations are conducted at the end of each trimester along with internal assessments.

Course Registration: LLM program contains five categories of registrations based on the availability of courses. Below mentioned are the details:

CE Examinations: For a candidate to pass the LLM courses, students will be required to pass all the examinations of that particular course. CE is assessed continuously during each trimester of the program and marks are given. Oral examinations are also conducted as assessments during the course. The total marks of CE are aggregated based on their inter se weights to calculate the overall percentage of marks in the CE Examinations. If a student fails in CE Examination, he/ she will not be permitted to appear in Trimester End Examinations and the student will have to seek fresh registration as REC in subsequent Trimester provided he/ she fulfills the other eligibility criteria as set by the university.

PW Examinations: All assignments in Practical Work/ Project Work are also assessed during the Trimester. In addition, there will be an overall assessment at the end of the Trimester. Oral Examinations/ Presentation are also included in the assessment and marks are also assigned for the same. If the student fails in PW Examination, he/ she will not be permitted to appear in Trimester End Examinations and the student will have to seek fresh registration as RP in subsequent Trimester. 

Trimester End Examinations (TEE): Trimester End Examinations are the written examinations of the course conducted at the end of each trimester. Candidates remaining absent in TEE will be assigned zero marks. Candidates are also required to maintain a minimum of 85% attendance in all components of the course. 

The student who obtains grade IF in TEE will have to seek RER registration in order to appear again in subsequent TEE. He/She will then be allowed to appear in Two consecutively available subsequent TEE/s of the concerned course for Trimester I and One consecutively available subsequent TEE/s of the concerned course for Trimester II. Total credits of all credit courses of Programme with CPI min 6.0 are required.

Ques. What is the course fee for the LLM program at Nirma University?

Ans. The total fee for the LLM program offered by Nirma University is INR 1,30,000 exclusive of refundable deposits, University fees, and students’ activity fees, etc. However, a special scholarship of INR 20,000 is offered by the university for the present academic year.

Ques. What is the expected or previous year cut-off for LLM admissions at Nirma University?

Ans. There is no specific cut-off on the basis of marks or rank because the merit list is prepared on the basis of applications received and the first 650 students are invited for counseling. Counseling takes place on two days where the first half of the students are called on Day 1 and the other half on Day 2. However, any student having a rank up to 2000-2500 can expect a fair chance of qualifying.
