Life at an IIT

Eligibility for pursuing a B. Tech. degree at any Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) required one to have passed their 12th class examination and cleared both the JEE Mains and JEE Advanced exams. The JEE Advanced exam is conducted annually. The registration fees for the exams vary for boys and girls and also vary for different castes. After successfully clearing the JEE Advanced exam, the candidate must apply through the JOSAA portal and pay the necessary fees with the required documents. Reservation benefits are available for different castes and genders, as well as for PwD students. The JOSAA portal is not limited to IITs and can be used to apply for various different colleges such as NIT and IIITs.

Eligibility for IIT Mandi: 1. Candidates must have passed the class 12th examination with 75% marks (or equivalent CGPA) in aggregate in all subjects. 2. Must have taken Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as the main subjects in the qualifying examination. 3. Must have appeared in JEE Advanced or be among the top 2.5 lakh candidates in JEE Main to be eligible for admission Application forms can be filled on the site of nta (jee mains) and for jee advance, it varies. The application fee for general category candidates is Rs. 2900, while for SC/ST/PwD candidates, it is Rs.1450. The exact dates for admission to IIT Mandi can vary from year to year. Admission to IIT Mandi for B.Tech and B.Tech+M.Tech (dual degree) courses happen via the JEE Advanced exam. In order to to be eligible to give this exam one has to qualify for the JEE Mains exam. JEE Mains is conducted twice a year in the months of January and April by NTA while JEE Advanced usually is held in the last days of May and is conducted by one of the IITs. The cut-off for various courses offered at IIT Mandi varies for different branches and different categories. The closing rank for CS in IIT Mandi was around 3000 - 4000 for a general male candidate.

I got admission to IIT Mandi through the gate examination held in 2022. I got an All India rank of 1642 in this exam. After participating in counselling firstly I got a call from IIT jodhpur in round 3, then in the special round, I got IIT Patna and IIT Mandir, and I selected IIT Mandi.

JEE advanced, CSE closing rank was 3100 almost, SC ST and OBC have many other reservation benefits but I belong to General so the cut-off was this, my rank was AIR 2925. There are 20% reservation for girls and no tuition fee for them and SC ST, General and OBC has to pay a fee.
