What students say about ISM Dhanbad - Indian Institute of Technology - [IITISM]

Likes

  • Living with friends all along your journey and getting to learn a lot of things from them is also a wonderful experience
  • The placements and internships here are excellent and motivating for all
  • The campus life at IIT ISM Dhanbad is one of best thing I lived.
  • Best alumni network, our alumni network has been appointed at the best and reputed posts at great firms.
  • The infrastructure is very good and you will maximum everything you want in the college
  • The workshops conducted by NVCTI of our college are very good.
  • The campus placements are very good and this thing makes me happy

Dislike

  • A student is eligible to sit for campus placements from the final year of their degree.
  • As far as I know, there are no scholarships available for students here. However, there are loan facilities for students who come from very poor families. By the way, the government offers a very low fee structure for poor students, so they do not need a huge amount of money to study here.
  • Campus life was boring because there were no active extracurriculars. All the students were very active in sports, and I believe that besides sports, all other activities were inactive.
  • If you are not good enough at using proxies and SSH tunneling, you have to rely on your data packs. Mess food is the worst.
  • Our college has bad faculties; that is the only downside of this college. Additionally, we only have access to LAN internet in the evening, from 6pm to 2:30am.

Placement Experience:

Placements of our college is very good with 90+ percent. From the 7th semester, the students are eligible for campus placement. Mostly companies offer SDE, Analyst, consultancy profiles for students and highest package is from 45 to 50 lpa and average is 12 lpa. I don't have any plans just to get placed in a company.

Remarks:

To get admission into this institution, we have to take JEE Mains entrance exam from which we will be qualified for JEE Advanced with 35 to 45 percentile in the scheduled category. We have 5o clear JEE Advanced with a cutoff in all three subjects Physics, Maths, and chemistry with a minimum cutoff of 7 average marks in all the subjects which may change year to year, and you need to cross the overall cutoff of 40 to 45 marks for SC category. based on your marks you will get a rank and you will have options to choose an institution based on your ranks which will be given by Joint Seat Allocation Counselling Authority. every course in every institution has some range of ranks from which you need to keep your priority options. the application can be done online which will be released by December every year and application fees for JEE mains and Advanced are 400 and 1400 rupees respectively. there will be many reservation benefits for students. One of the main benefits is that there will be no tuition fee.

Placement Experience:

The placements of IIT (ISM) are very good. We have placements from many prestigious companies such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Flipkart, D E Shaw, etc. The average package offered was around 17 LPA in 2022. The placement process is quite smooth and efficient. Students are provided with ample guidance and support from the college placement cell. The candidate will need to apply for placement after the 7th semester, around December. Around 82 companies visited our campus in phase 1 of placement with a total of 600 offers.

Remarks:

The admission process of IIT(ISM) is like any other IIT. The admission process is conducted through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). The JEE is a two-tiered exam, consisting of the JEE Main and the JEE Advanced. JEE Main is the first stage of the IITS(ISM) admission process. It is conducted by the National Testing Agency(NTA) and is one of the most competitive exams in India. It tests a student's aptitude in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. JEE Advanced is the second and final stage of the ISM admission process. It is conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology and tests a student's aptitude in advanced topics of PCM. Eligibility of JEE is that candidates must have passed their class 12th exam and have secured a minimum of 75% marks for the general category. Candidates first need to fill out the JEE Main form through NTA. After two JEE Main if the candidate is able to clear the cutoff, then he needs to fill out the JEE Advanced form (fee = 2200 and cutoff = 1200 AIR for mining).
