Madras University offers a two year Masters of Law (ML or LLM) in various specializations. The department of Legal Studies at present offers two  M.L.courses under CBCS pattern namely, International Law and Organisation and Constitutional Law and Legal Order. Apart from that seven branches of LLM namely International Law & Constitutional Law, Business Law, Criminal Law, Property Law, Intellectual Property Law, Human Rights & Environmental Law and Labour & Administrative Law are also offered by the Department under Private Study Scheme.

Madras University LLM Eligibility Criteria

For taking admission to LLM course of Madras University the candidates should fulfill the following eligibility criterias:

  • The candidates should have completed 3 year BL or LL.B., 5 year BL or LL.B from any recognized University accepted by the Syndicate as the equivalent thereto.

Admission to LLM at Madras University is based on entrance examination conducted by the university. The final selection will be based on marks secured in the qualifying examination (50 marks) and entrance exam scores (50 marks).

Madras University LLM Application Process

  • The candidate can also download the application form from the official website. 
  • Fill all the details in the application form.
  • Attach the form and send it along with a DD of INR 354/- (i.e. INR 300 + 18% GST of INR 54/-) at the University address. 
  • Separate application forms shall be submitted for each programme (including regular and self-supportive programmes) offered by the different Departments.

The course of study for the LLM Degree consists of 10 theory papers and a Dissertation. The credits are as follows:

  • Core Courses - 71 Credits Minimum
  • Elective Courses - 21 Credits Minimum
  • Soft Skill Courses - 08 Credits Minimum
  • Internships - 02 Credits
  • Total - 102 Credits Minimum

Under LM, the candidate will be given a maximum of 5 years to complete the course from the date of enrolment in the course.
