Dayananda Sagar University offers a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Course under four Specializations. It is available in both full time and part time modes. Maximum of Duration can be up-to 6 Years. Ph.D. Course is available in 10 Specializations at DSU.

In case of full-time scholars, the Ph.D. programme shall be for a minimum duration of 36 months, including course work and a maximum of six years. It shall be four years and six years for part time scholars, respectively.

It is specialized in Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Management, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biological Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences.

It is offered under 4 Departments i.e. Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Commerce & Management Studies, Faculty of Basic & Applied Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences.

Minimum Eligibility is to have a Master’s Degree or have done M.Phil. or equivalent in relevant Stream with a minimum of 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC/ Differently Abled Candidates).

Selection of Candidates will be done on the basis of UGC-JRF / UGC-NET / UGC-CSIR JRF / UGC-CSIR NET / SLET / GATE Entrance Exam and further Interview.

DSU Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates having a Master’s degree from Dayananda Sagar University or any other University recognized as equivalent with a minimum of 55% and passed Entrance Exam for the Ph.D. program shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. Course. A relaxation of 5% of marks, or an equivalent relaxation of grade will be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Differently-abled categories.
  • A candidate with M. Phil Degree of this University or any other University recognized as equivalent there to in the concerned or cognate subject shall also be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. Course, after passing the Entrance Examination.

For Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Area:

  • The University encourages interdisciplinary research leading towards awarding of Ph.D. degree, for such students who have Master’s degree in appropriate subjects with a minimum of 55% of the aggregate marks prescribed for the examination and passed entrance examination for the Ph.D. Course, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. Course. A relaxation of 5% of marks or an equivalent relaxation of grade will be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Differently-abled categories.
  • The candidate must submit the title of the research area and the research proposal along with his/her application.
  • The degree will be awarded in the discipline in which the candidate has registered to Ph.D. program.

DSU Ph.D. Admission Guidelines

Selection of Ph.D. scholars is done based on the performance in the Entrance Test (UGC-JRF / UGC-NET / UGC-CSIR JRF / UGC-CSIR NET / SLET / GATE) and the Interview conducted by an Expert Panel in the chosen discipline. However, the candidates should get min 50% in the aggregate in the Entrance Test to become eligible for the interview.

A relaxation of 5% marks is allowed for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Differently-abled Category. Selection of Scholars in a discipline is done strictly based on the rank list prepared in that discipline by adding the performance of the candidates in the Entrance Test and interview.

DSU Ph.D. FAQs

Ques. How are the Selection Criteria of Ph.D. programs at DSU?

Ans. The Selection Criteria for Ph.D. program is to qualify the GATE/NET/SLET Entrance Test for which the Syllabus can be found on the Official Website of DSU. It is followed by further Interview which Is present before an Expert Panel in the Discipline of Ph.D. chosen by the Candidate.

Ques. What is the Entrance Examination Pattern for Ph.D. programs at DSU?

Ans. There shall be an examination in three papers at the end of the course work. Each paper shall be of 3 hours duration and carries 100 Marks. Each answer script is valued by two valuers - one internal and one external. The marks assigned to the answer script, shall be the average of these two valuations. If the difference in marks between the two valuations exceeds 20% of the maximum marks, such answer scripts shall be assessed by a third examiner. Whenever an answer script is referred for third valuation, the marks obtained to the nearer of the two valuations, shall be considered and their average shall be taken. In case the marks obtained in the third valuation differs equally from the marks obtained in the first two valuations, the average of all the three valuations shall be taken, for assigning the secured marks.

Ques. What if the Candidate fails in Ph.D. Examination at DSU?

Ans. Candidates failing to complete their Ph.D. course work examination requirement during the initial one or two semesters and also within the extended time of one more year, from the date of their admission/registration, shall not be eligible to continue in Ph.D. programme and their admission /provisional registration shall be cancelled.

Ques. Is the Ph.D. program at DSU approved?

Ans. The award of Ph.D. degree must be recommended by the Academic Council and approved by the Board of Management and Board of Governors of the DSU.

Ques. What is the structure of fees of Ph.D. programs at DSU?

Ans. All Research scholars registered for Ph.D. programme, are required to remit/pay fee to University, for the following purposes:

  • Examination fee
  • Fee for obtaining extension of time for duration, course work, course work examination, comprehensive examination and thesis submission.
