Full time programs like Baccalaureates, certificates and microprograms application submission deadlines for Candidates within and Outside Quebec remains 1st of March for fall term and 1st of November for the Winter term.

Graduate students are advised to make the admission request at least two months prior to the course start date. However, expected delays with respect to entry in Canada which might go up to six months must be kept in mind before applying.

University of Sherbrooke International Students Admissions

University of Sherbrooke offers admissions to international students in three cycles. While the 1st Cycle deals with baccalaureate programs the 2nd and 3rd Cycles are equivalent to graduate and doctorate programs. International Applicants are required to choose their program of study following which an application must be made to the college with necessary documents. Selected Candidates would receive an Admission offer from the Office of the Registrar of the University of Sherbrooke by email. They are then required to respond to this and pay the health insurance fee and confirmation fee keeping in mind the stated deadlines. Next, the student must obtain the Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) and the Government of Canada study permit for which they are required to allow a period of 4 to 6 months. The applicants must reserve their accommodation on or off-campus and is all set to land in Canada at the University of Sherbrooke.

French Language Requirements

Since University of French is a french speaking University Thus all the students are required to meet any of the french language requirements specified by the University. The requirements are as follows

  • The candidate must hold a degree from a study program followed in French at a university recognized as French-speaking by the University.
  • They should pass the Written French Test (TFE) or the Uniform French Test, Language of Instruction (EUL) approved by the ministry responsible for higher studies in Quebec.
  • The Candidate should have attained success of the FRA 101 - Essential French or for non-French speakers supplementary activity , by the success of the FRE 103 - Advanced French for non-French speakers activity .
  • The Candidate should pass the University of Sherbrooke French Institutional Test of French (TIF) administered to any person who has not met requirement a), b) or c) mentioned above or by passing a test of the same nature and recognized as equivalent by the University.

Student Visa Requirements for International Students

International Students who aspire to study at the University of Sherbrooke for more than 6 months are required to apply for a study visa for Canada and an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) /VISA.While the Visa requirements vary for different countries,the general requirements to obtain a study permit are given below.

Most programmes of the 1st Cycle require letters of Recommendation whose number, format and provenance are different for different programs.It is important to note that the letters of recommendation provided must directly reach the faculty or the concerned department and should be sealed and not pass through the candidate.

FAQs

Ques. Does University of Sherbrooke plan to conduct face to face sessions this fall?

Ans. While University of Sherbrooke has plans to conduct most activities on campus for its students, it must also adhere to the public health directives and government health and social guidelines. Hence, it could consider a hybrid approach which is switching of learning between on-campus and distance as in when possible.

Ques. For the Summer term 2023, what are the arrangements made?

Ques. What about the admissions of Canadian Candidates for this Fall,2023?

Ans. In Spite of the University being closed, the processing of admission requests is proceeding normally. For baccalaureate programs, all responses (admission offers, refusals, waiting list places) are supposed to be sent by April 15 for admission in the fall, provided that the candidates have sent all documents required within the stipulated time.

Ques. Is there an option for accommodation of students for students who are undergoing Financial difficulties?

Ans. Yes, University of Sherbrooke understands that students might be unable to pay the confirmation deposit of 300 USD and confirm their seats. Hence, offers students who are going through a financial crisis an option of writing a letter to admission@usherbrooke.ca explaining the scenario before May 1st 2023. The college would contact the candidate if necessary to reach an agreement.

Ques. What if the International Candidate are unable to obtain the necessary legal papers?

Ans. When International candidates are unable to obtain their legal papers in time to come and study in Quebec,admission would necessarily be postponed to a later session. In such cases, where there might be a possibility of postponement of admission free of charge, a full refund of the amounts paid for the session is possible.Candidates must write to admission@USherbrooke.ca before September 1st.

Ques. What about the payment of confirmation deposit and health Insurance?

Ans. Usually, international applicants must pay 1,200 USD to confirm their registration and obtain health insurance for their full year of study. However, in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Université de Sherbrooke has put in place an accommodation measure and would require international candidates to pay only an amount of 300 USD which would allow them to obtain health insurance for their first-course session.

Payment of 300 USD being mandatory, should be sent to the University of Sherbrooke before the deadline indicated on the confirmation letter. Failing to pay this amount of 300 USD would result in the registration of the candidate being canceled.

Ques. What is the application fee for applying to University of Sherbrooke?

Ans. Applicants need to pay 87 CAD along with the application for opening and processing the file.

Ques. What are the intake semesters available for international students?

Ans. International applicants can apply for the fall or spring semesters. However, it is preferable to apply for fall as it is easy to integrate the process.

Ques. Are letters of recommendation required admission to University of Sherbrooke?

Ans. For admission to most master’s degree programs and some bachelor’s degree programs, letters of recommendation are required. The number and format of the letter is specified by each department separately. Applicants must check the program requirements before applying.
