You don’t need to worry about job prospects, you will get placement offers as a Business analyst or Data scientist with a similar CTC of top b-school graduates. According to the 2021 ISI Kolkata placement highlight, the average CTC offered was INR 19 LPA. Doing Ph.D. or higher studies can be difficult, especially if you are planning on going overseas. All the courses of ISI Kolkata i.e. M. Math, M. Tech (CSE), M. Stat, MSQE, and M. Tech QROR have the same placement rate that is 100%. All the courses have a placement rate of 100% and every student of ISI Kolkata either gets placed. The only thing that differs in all these courses in terms of placement is the time when they get placement. The students from one course get placed earlier than the other. M.Stat students get placed earlier than the MSQE or M.Tech students. According to the average package, the students of M.Stat usually receive a higher average package. One of my friends is an alumnus of ISI Kolkata and here is his insight into the placements for MTech CS. The job profiles offered by ISI are mostly from Data Analytics. You will not get many CS core jobs from the placement drive. Don’t expect companies such as Google, Amazon, Microsoft, etc. As an M.Tech(CS) student, you will have a fair knowledge about IR, Pattern Recognition, Data Mining and you can easily get jobs at these visiting companies. In the recent placement drive, the highest package offered was INR 25 to 28 LPA while the average was INR 10 to 12 LPA. ISI offers good job opportunities, but it is limited to a particular domain. Along with Data Analytics companies, few R&D centers like TCS Innovation, Infosys R&D, visit the placement drive. Other than that you can apply for summer internships and if you perform well you will receive PPOs. But if you are expecting a job strictly related to your field after the compilation of your masters then don’t choose ISI. After reading some reviews online, I can say that, if you want to be a data scientist, ISI Kolkata would be a good choice. In fact, it is said to be the top college for aspiring data scientists. This would definitely open up a lot of opportunities. Categories M.Tech CS at BITS Pilani M.Tech CS at IIIT H M.Tech CS at ISI Kolkata Course Fee 8.92 lakh 5.60 lakh 40,000 Highest CTC 16 LPA 19 LPA 12-14 LPA Average CTC 9 LPA 8-10 LPA 6 PA Recruiting Companies Wipro, CTS, etc. Infosys, Capgemini, etc. TCS, IBM, etc. However, if you want to be a developer, the ISI M.Tech CS program falls short of IIIT-H and BITS Pilani CSE. One of my friends is currently in his first year of M.tech CS at ISI Kolkata. Here are some crucial insights regarding the academics and placements according to his experience. Academics: If you have a CS background in your under graduation too, then all subjects in the first year will be mostly repetition for you. You can also check the exact list on the ISI website. However, many people with a CS background say that they have learned things in a much-refined way. In the second year, you finally get to choose subjects based on your interest which will help you in your final thesis. ISI is quite famous for cryptography but you can also find good thesis projects in prestigious fields like Machine learning, Image processing, Algorithms, VLSI, cognitive science, etc. Also, you get good guidance in all of these. I have friends studying in ISI Kolkata and old IITs. Based on my conversations with them, I will say there is no doubt that M.stat students from ISI have better chances of landing jobs with really lucrative salaries. You will be surprised by the fact that ISI is known for its 100% placement ratio for M.Stat. This is not the case you would be able to find in any IIT whether old or new. Even if you pursue a B.tech degree from IIT Bombay (an old and reputed IIT), the institute never succeeds in maintaining a cent-percent placement record. You can even cross-check the stats from IIT Bombay’s website. Students studying mathematics and computing students from IITs, most of them are more inclined towards research careers than jobs. M.Stat degree from ISI is unique in India. The course is highly reputed and the institute itself is far ahead of most Indian institutes in the field of stats, math, and economics.
