Ques. How is Swami Shraddhanand College for a B.Sc (Hons.) in Physics? How are the laboratories and faculty?

● Top Answer By Shekhar Sumann on 09 Nov 21

Ans. I have a few friends from Swami Shraddhanand College. Based on their experience, it is a good option for pushing a B.Sc (Hons.) in Physics.  Placement at the institute is based on the experience that you gain through internships. Salaries in the placement drive are offered according to your skill and experience. Companies like ICICI Bank, HDFC, visit the campus for placements.  There is an internship cell on campus that helps students get internship offers.  The college also has a commerce department, that deals with activities related to business, marketing, etc. The infrastructure of the institute is quite good. There are facilities like wifi, computer labs, smart classes, a library, etc.  Overall, Swami Shraddhanand College offers good placement and facilities for the Physics department. Read more

Ques. Which college is better, Deshbandhu College or Swami Shraddhanand College for a B. Sc in physics?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 04 Oct 21

Ans. If you consider the physics branch, Deshbandhu college is a better choice. Here are some reasons to consider it over Swami Shraddhanand College for a B.Sc in physics: Their physics department is really good with a highly experienced faculty. They have good laboratories and over 20 lab assistants in the physics department. The library consists of a really good collection of Physics books as well as other reading and research materials. Their students' performance is very good in exams like JAM or JEST. They have a Physics Society and many activities are organized by this society of Deshbandhu college. It is said to be really good. If you are thinking of college placements and it is your concern then forget to get placed from any of these colleges.  The only way is to prepare for IIT JAM, JEST, etc. exams for further studies in physics. The connectivity of transportation of Deshbandhu college is better than the Swami Shraddhanand college because it is far away outside Delhi that is the college is located on karnal GT road. Therefore, choose the one that meets your requirements.Read more

Ques. How is Fergusson College Pune for BSc in physics?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 28 Sept 21

Ans. If physics is your passion, and you genuinely want to learn, this is not the place for you. One of my friends studied here and these are some things he mentioned. The faculty is good but they have limited course material. You would not feel like you have learned much.  Most students take up physics in their final years because they know they can easily memorize the course material and pass. This is just so that they can improve their grades.  Mugging up theories is definitely not how someone can learn science.  They don’t have a real interest in the subject anyway and they would be your peers. The system at Fergusson is not great and you wouldn’t want to attend classes as it would not matter and you will pass your exams regardless. If you are only looking for a college life minus the studies and want to have some fun with fests and events, by all means, join Fergusson because marks and knowledge are secondary here.Read more

Ques. What can I do after doing an integrated M.Sc in photonics at CUSAT?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 20 Jul 21

Ans. There are two options that you can pursue after an integrated M.Sc in photonics at CUSAT. Industry Jobs - The jobs offered by the photonics industry of India are mostly sales. Yes, there are jobs in the telecommunications industry especially in the fiber optics sector which could fetch you some very good technical roles as well. Research - Photonics is one of the very interesting topics to research upon. The field offers some very good opportunities in India as well as abroad. However, very few educational institutions in India have a photonics department and they also prefer physics students when they hire their professors. So getting a teaching job may also become difficult. Anyway, if you are really interested in the subject then nothing should come between your choice because opportunities will appear over time.Read more

Remarks :

My cousin was studying at Delhi University when I passed my 12th exam. And she was final year student at that time. I applied for many entrance exams some of them attended. But not qualified the exams of my interest. At that time I remembered that my cousin was a student at Delhi University. And contacted her. Asked about all that admission procedures. Delhi University admission was based on 12th exam marks. Some of the courses is based on entrance exams. I applied and took admission at Hindu College, one of the best colleges of Delhi University. And I loved this change. Out of state, New friends from different states, varieties of culture.etc.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Yes. This Hindu college is in Top 10 of NIRF ranking, NAAC A++ accredited college. Most of the DU colleges provide cbcs courses so as our college. I opted physics because my interest was in physics. And the faculties are really good.

College Events :

Campus life was extraordinary. I never felt this much vibe before. And the cultural programes,College Festivals, many societies performances.etc. Hindu was amazing. Hindu is really missing now. Proud to be a Hinduite.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fee charged by the College for the particular course which I did was quite feasible. I do not remember, what was the fee structure but for sure, it was not expensive. Since I passed out in the year 1993, the mode of payment was Cash only which we used to deposit in the Bank inside the college itself. There were no additional fees/ charges for securing admission in my course. Only the charges/ fee which was decided by the Government/ University were paid by me for the Admission. As far as, the transparency in the fee breakdown is concerned, the fee structure was quite transparent and all the details were made available to all the students and each student was provided the receipt for the fee which he/she had paid in the College.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The Course Curriculum and the Exam Structure was designed in such a way so as to cover a large volume of the syllabus which is required during Graduation. It was quite fair but nor research-oriented as this was not a professional course. It was simply a Graduation course. As far as the exam structure is concerned, there were 3 main exams in the first year besides there were 2 subsidiary subjects ( which a student has to qualify through the marks scored in these subjects are not counted for the result purpose), during the second year, there were 4 main exams besides 2 subsidiary subjects and during the final year, there were 6 main examinations. Apart from this, there were practical examinations during each year of the Course.

Admission :

I got the admission in the College on the basis of marks scored in my Class-XII examination. My Class-XII exams were over in the month of April and the result was declared in the month of May. During the month of June, the process for admission in the college started. I applied on the basis of Class XII result and got my name in the first cut off list. At that time in most of the Courses, the criteria for admission were marks scored in Class-XII. Only a few courses have an entrance exam for the admission. I opted for this course as I was a student of the Science stream during the school and my College, Kirori Mal College was one of the best Institutions in the North Campus of Delhi University.

INFRASTRUCTURE So the college is going through a renovation process wherein new buildings and structures are coming up. So in Jan 2020 classes began in the New Science Block and this new building is at par with any infrastructure of top DU colleges. So this building is for maths and science department. WIFI We never used to recharge internet in our mobile because in PG there was WIFI and also in whole college premises. But if you want really high speed internet to download movies go to library. LIBRARY Deshbandhu College’s library is one of the biggest and best in the whole of DU. Library Facilities • Air-conditioned Reading Hall – Best place to rest in free time. • WebOpac Facility – you can search online where your concerned book is kept • Wi-Fi enabled library – we all used to go in our free time to library to download movies If you are preparing for some competitive exam, then library is the best place for you. You will not believe but students used to come from their rooms and PG

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fee structure is really affordable. There was a fee hike recently after many years but now also most of the courses have an average fee of around Rs. 13000 yearly. There is financial assistance provided by the college to the needy and underprivileged but you have to fill the form submit some documents and also an interview is held which refunds your 50% annual fee. There is an active placement cell in college 'CYFLE',and they doing great job from the last 2 years be it conducting employability workshops, internship fairs, regular placement on campus drives and annual placement fair. The most important thing is that if you are seriously looking for a job in Deshbandhu College you will easily get one. Just join a society develop on your communication skill, get one internship each in your 1st and 2nd year and you will easily get a good placement with and option of getting placed in other college also since all colleges of DU allow each other’s students in their annual placement fair

Course Curriculum Overview :

Brilliant curriculum, completely updated. Received a lot of exposure, including international exposure. The faculty members are eminent and world class. Professors like Pratap Bhanu Mehta, Gopalkrishna Gandhi, Bikram Phukan to name a few.

College Events :

Campus has 60+ clubs and societies apart from all the sports teams. Students easily find something of their interest. However, academics is given more importance and the cultural life is better in places like Delhi University or IITs.

Campus Life :

25 acre campus but one of the best infrastructure in the country. Sports facility, laboratory equipments, library, housekeeping, etc are some of the extraordinary facilities available here. However, the fee is also exorbitant.

Campus Life :

The crowd at our college is just great. We keep having Nukkad drama by our Dramatics society, Dance and music performance by respective societies. Being a strong 4000 crowd a lot of companies keep coming for their advertisement with interactive and engaging shows. Also, we are regularly visited by NDTV India for putting forward the opinion of youth on various issues. Many of us personally also got a chance to visit India TV and NDTV studios at no cost, even the commute is beard by them. Being a hotspot of DUSU elections you will see some really big political faces in our college (I have seen Anurag Thakur from a 1 ft. distance). In the election time like any other DU college you will meet College Netas reciting their name, post, ballot no. all day but that is also a unique experience. You just have to accept the parties these Netas give (yes, they give a lot of eating stuff) and at last vote for the most deserving candidate. Also elections are held for the departmetal posts.

Placement Experience :

It depends on the course you are pursuing and want to pursue in future. Like most of the BA and BA (Hons.) students come in DU with the aim of getting an environment for UPSC Civil Services preparation, most of the students in B.Sc. And B.Sc.(Hons.) who take admission in DU want to pursue M.Sc in future. So we are left with the commerce and economic background i.e. B.Com and BA Economics most of whom prepare for an MBA. So if you are looking to get placed after graduation you will definitely get an offer regardless of your course. Just keep in mind that since you are not pursuing any professional course like B.Tech, MBA, B.Ed. you need to develop certain skills like communication, coding, etc. on your own or with the help of college societies. There is an active placement cell in college 'CYFLE', and they did a great job from the last 2 years be it conducting employability workshops, internship fairs, regular placement on-campus drives and annual placement fair.

Course Curriculum Overview :

All the teachers who are teaching in any DU college are highly qualified with all of them having a PhD. But in our Physics department, we are having teachers who are just amazing. Dr Tyagi sir, Dr Ruchika Joshi, Dr Jyoti, Dr Deepti, Dr Reeta, Dr Ayushi, Dr Manoj, Dr Ajay to name a few. In our department, we are having around 22 teachers. Total students in the Physics department is around 120. So the student-faculty ratio is 5.45. The other strong departments of our college are Maths, all Science departments, economics, commerce and Political Science department. Exams in DU are always timely.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I chose this course because i was highly interested in studying physics and research and know in details how every particle in our universe works and what other phenomenon keeps the system alive. Our university has almost 1:3 faculty student ratio . Every student in the department gets the exposure and help whenever they need. All the faculties are IIT passed outs and showcase conceptual and practicals methods to understand subject matter and work them out practically also. The faculty also encourages students to participate in various online programs. The term exams were particularly on before the pandemic when everything was normal and it was easy to pass them.

Campus Life :

The university organizes annual fest mostly in January every year . It is called the ORION named after the constellation that shines most bright in the month of january. The library is eye catching because it consists of numerous amount of books of different varieties stacked neatly in different cases which makes it even easy for students to find any book . Classrooms are huge and neat and consists all high quality amenities. The annual fest along with sports fest and all the event organised on special occasions are held by students only including holi, diwali, ganesh puja, navratri celebrations etc while bonfires adds as cherry to the cake.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fees aren't hiked unnecessarily until this kind of pandemic occurs or any natural disaster occurs where the college management completely are devoid of money and they hike the cost. I study in the university with paying almost 90000 rs per semester, the tuition fees along with hostel and fooding. I am enrolled in no scholarship or financial assistance or job on campus through stipend.

The cource curriculum is just ok in my college. Professors cannot attend lectures regularly and the administration is very bad. Students take pressure to himself and prepare for the examination. University also doing nothing for our students but students still giving the best.

Placement Experience :

There aren't too many opportunities for placements but some companies do come to recruit students after graduation. Most companies are interested in recruiting students from Masters so the placement facilities for M.Sc in our college is good. However, Shivaji Science College trains us so as to improve our interviewing skills.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum for Physics Honours is very informative. There are a lot of practical subjects that make it interesting. There are not too many subjects which is good. Exams are held every semester and evaluation happens on the basis of those exams.

Admission :

I applied for admission to Shivaji Science College after my boards result. The application process is very simple. You have to fill out the application form online with the required documents and then the merit list is released by the college.

Placement Experience :

There is no dedicated placement cell in our college but our faculty members help us a lot whether its is related to getting a job or preparing for entrances. Mock interviews are help sometimes that prepare us for interviews. Few companies do come to recruit but not many.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum consists of very good physics subjects as well other allied subjects. We had practicals which were a part of our yearly evaluations as well. We had two labs in our college. We also had internal as well as external exams.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fee structure is fairly inexpensive. The fees for the Government branch is somewhat 4500 and that of the Non govt branch is a little expensive at 10,000-12,000 per year. I did it from a govt branch so mine was 13,500 for all three years.

Admission :

I got the admission at B. Sc. Physics Honours through te online merit list, made on the basis of my 12th standard's result. As I was dreamt to study with physics or chemistry and to research at that field from the 8th standard and had been sticking to it, I worked quite hard and usually got the admission at this college of my hometown. That time I was really really nervous and afraid of leaving home for studies, there was only and only one option for me in my mind, Malda college, one of the best college for physics in North Bengal, at my hometown. Although I also got the chance to admission at Viswa Bharati for the same course through merit list, I was magisticially choosed to Malda College by my destiny and will also.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Yes, obviously the whole course structure and curriculum is strictly relevant to research and that type of intellectual things. But there is still some faults and resistance to learn like this in our college course just like many more university in india and all over the world. Just for example nonuniform and a quiet illogical distribution of syllabus during this three years course and something else.

Faculty :

It was quite very good. Infact we got one of the best teachers and staffs in our department perticularly. There were 5 Assistant professor and 5 partime teacher and 3 lab assistant in our department. Also there was 2 extra staff in our department. Although that time there was not any permanent female teacher in our department of Physics.
