Universiti Sains Malaysia was established as Universiti Pulau Pinang, the second university in Malaysia founded in 1969. It is one of the leading institutions in Malaysia and the Asian region. Universiti Sains Malaysia Campus
Universiti Sains Malaysia initially started teaching from the premises of the Malayan Teachers Training College in Bukit Gelugor. The campus of USM is currently based in Minden which is around 9.7 kms away from Georgetown. The campus stretches across an area of 417 hectares.
