Dr. M. Padmavathi is the former Head of the Department of School of Management at Sri Krishna College of Technology. She completed PhD in Management from Bharathiar, a state University, India. She has one year of industrial experience and 17 years of academic experience. Under the National Skill Development Council Scheme in India, she becomes an Insurance skill sectoral assessor. She published several papers in national and international journals. She won the Best Case Study Award in the year 2013.

What are your roles and responsibilities?

“Provide the best learning experience and practical exposure to students”

I like to provide the best learning experience during their course of the program to students. It aids through imparting knowledge, practical exposure, corporate connections, entrepreneurship, and holistic development. One of my primary responsibilities is to groom future Leaders as responsible citizens. It helps them to move with a motivated spirit. 


How do you bring in a practical approach towards subjects as industry-oriented?

“Role plays, Group discussion and Experiential learning enabling students”

Students want to view the situation to solve the problem. It is aided by a practical approach. In terms of subject management, we equip our instructors with innovative teaching pedagogy. Case studies from the real world are brought into the classroom. Role-playing and group discussions assist students in learning practically. 

Experiential learning is adopted for subjects like Sales and Marketing. Collaboration with companies like ITC and Aditya Birla makes students learn about markets instead of internships. Corporate interactions on the topics necessary for students to understand the industry are arranged.


What are the best practices offered to the students in Sri Krishna College Of Technology?

“Provide rural immersion and entrepreneurship programs for students”

The primary practices are the Rural Immersion and Entrepreneurship Programme. Moreover, Innovative Teaching Pedagogy connects with corporations for better yield of an institution. Paid and Non Paid internships available for students. Students run Clubs, Peer learning, and mentoring of alumni are other best practices offered to candidates. 


How do you strategize the curriculum and how it benefits the students?

A Curriculum Development Cell exists in the institution. The analysis for the curriculum was done by getting feedback from students / all stakeholders every year. Benchmarking is carried out every year with the premier institutions. The curriculum is updated based on the demand analysis. The syllabus is updated as per industry expectations.

How do you help students to deal with the competition of the outside world?

The students inside the campus are treated as Managers to simulate corporate inside the campus. We give assignments and leadership responsibilities during the course of study which helps them to survive with corporate. Our regular recruiters stated that students from the SKCT campus stay in the company for a long period. A lifelong learning culture is nurtured among students during the programs. Continuous and lifelong learning culture helps them to update themselves. We introduced extra credits to support students. Our alumni are registering for many online courses even after completing their program. Hence, these methods help candidates to cope up with the outside world.


How does the department raise the skills of the faculty according to the industry standards?

A skill matrix is prepared when a faculty joins the department. It helps to ensure the conduct of faculty development programs. The conduct of MDPs and Workshops are essential for the expertise of the faculty. Moreover, a faculty is allowed to visit industry and get equipped the same as students. Our API ensures regular attendance at FDPs to enhance their skills. We have “Abhijnyan Vicarna” which helps to share knowledge in the emerging trends. It helps faculty to gain knowledge and update themselves in the other fields of Management. The faculty proposes the list of the industry at the start of the academic year. It aids them to maintain healthy interaction with industry and prepares to equip students for industry standards.


What are your views on the placements of the students in Sri Krishna College Of Technology?

“Domain-based placements for all students in our campus”

The first importance is placement and entrepreneurship. We create entrepreneurs and success stories through the talent of students. They acquire the necessary skills in the course to become entrepreneurs. Regular meets with the entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs association, meetings with DIC officials help to attain their dreams. We offer domain-based placements. Federal Bank, Berger paints, Aditya Birla Fashion Retail Ltd, D Mart, Robert Bosch, Axis Bank, Oppo, and Career net are the companies that visit the campus every year. An annual salary of 12 lakhs is the highest package available for candidates. 


How do you establish healthy relations with the students and faculty in Sri Krishna College Of Technology?

“Keep open discussions and deliberations between students and faculty”

I believe in participative leadership and am involved in carrying the activities with my team. My door is always open to students and teachers for talks and deliberations. We celebrate all the occasions to bond our relationships. Our department badged the Best Vibrant Department of the campus in the pre-pandemic period. It happens through the positive vibes and happiness that exist among the faculty and students. We follow the Buddy Training method to which existing faculty becomes a mentor. Our team lunchtimes are a great bonding. I properly guide them and establish healthy relations. We work as a team for a common goal.


What are the extracurricular activities in Sri Krishna College Of Technology to raise students' skills?

We have SKCT Pride focused on Projects, Research, Innovation, Design, and Entrepreneurship. The clubs run by students perform any activities that solve real-world challenges. We maintain a faculty mentor for every student. Moreover, a faculty Pride Coordinator motivates a student to participate in National and International Competitions. Our students participate in competitions held at various IIM campuses. It won in the events held at IIM Kashipur, and IIM Trichy.
