Having more than 185 International Journal Publications, 11 books/book chapters and 26 patents to his credit, Dr. Parameswar Krishnan Iyer is presently serving as the Dean of Public Relations and Branding at IIT, Guwahati. Receiving several National and International Awards, he is an Associate Editor of Nature Scientific Reports and Editorial board member and expert member of various national and international scientific bodies. 

Guiding a number of Ph.D. students, his research interests include the design and development of functional materials and their applications in optoelectronic devices, sensors, and therapeutics.

What are the key factors that keep you connected to the education sector?

“Potential practical applicability to develop youths and nation”

The future of any nation depends on how strong, knowledgeable and empowered the youth of that country are. I believe that the education sector is the one of the top areas which can mould the youth of a nation, both mentally and physically. It builds them up to take up challenging problems via various educational platforms, exposing and training them to face real life problems, and finding effective resolutions. Moreover, the motivation to build a world class educational institute and inculcate traditional and more value based culture, along with being inclusive to masses of the society motivates me to take up administration responsibilities. 

What is your philosophy on leadership?

“Promoting growth enhancement and putting up objective outcomes”

Leaders in any institution or association need to define reality and take responsibility. My philosophy involves an inclusive growth pattern that benefits the institute as well as the students, hence society as a whole. Aspirations of every student, employee and faculty must be fulfilled resulting in overall development of individuals and the enhancement in perception of the institution. Another important aspect of a leader is being resourceful, have a strong cohesive team that is motivated to take up challenges. 

What do you see as IIT Guwahati’s biggest strengths?

“Embarking concrete educational benefits to all”

Diversity along with young and dynamic faculty is one of the greatest work ambiences that our institute consist of. We have a strong knowledge base with best teaching pedagogy and effectual learning environment to reinforce paramount education and knowledge among our students and faculty. IIT Guwahati administration is fully supportive of progressive ideas from every member and students, and quickly takes decisions to implement them. We follow a definite classroom culture and development programs that help create emotional and mental assurance for staff as well as students leading to a spurt in student-teacher engagement. How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects in your Institute?
