Did you avail of the benefit of any reservation?

Vartika Srivastava: “General (No reservation)”

Describe the general setting of WAT / GD (if any)?

Vartika Srivastava: “This year our selection procedure included a WAT and PI. Due to covid, our WAT and PI were held online. I remember my interview was on 20th March 2021. We had amazing moderators to address our doubts constantly. We were given a total of 20 minutes to comprehend the topic and complete our WAT. The word limit was 300. We were being monitored by the officials the entire time.

One thing that helped me write something concrete during WAT was the habit of reading articles. Aeon.com, Smithsonian magazine, The Guardian are some websites I would recommend to all the aspirants. One can find articles on diverse topics. This will help you develop a reading habit and it also stimulates the creative and curious part of your brain. Most of the MBA entrance exams demand quick reading and comprehension. I could find enough content to surpass the word limit in WAT because of my reading habit.”

What was the WAT / GD Topic?

Vartika Srivastava: "The topic for my WAT was ' Do security checks at airports breach a person's privacy in the name of safety?'”

What were your answer/points put forward for the WAT or GD respectively?

Vartika Srivastava: “My answer to the same was that security check at common public platforms is something we can not do away with. Any breach in the security can attract the immediate attention of trouble makers. This can put the lives of the very people concerned about their privacy in danger. I strongly believe that we must be ensured of our privacy and that special care must be taken such that our data doesn't get leaked. Strict action should be taken if a person's privacy is being invaded. But, we just can't do away with these security checks. This was the gist of my answer.”

Describe the general setting of your personal Interview.

Vartika Srivastava: “My personal interview was held online. My panel number was 080. There were five people including me in the interview room. My interviewers were the faculty members from NMIMS. The interview went on for 20 minutes. I was asked to introduce myself and then each member asked me 3-4 questions. They were all very humble. It never felt like a stress interview. They also praised me for the various activities I had been a part of in college. In all, it was a very beautiful experience for me.

I would advice all the aspirants to try and be calm during the interview. I know it's easier said than done. But realize that you have made it this far so you're definitely no less deserving that the rest. You might not know all the answers and that's completely fine. You should never beat around the bush and politely admit that you don't know the answer. Be confident. And don't forget to smile :)”

Mention at least 5 interview questions that were asked to you and your responses to each of them.

Vartika Srivastava: “Q1- Why do you want to pursue MBA after a graduation in Zoology?

Ans- In college, I did an internship on 'Antimicrobial finishing of textiles using eco friendly products.' It was at that time I was exposed to the idea of promoting the use of eco friendly, sustainable products. Being a zoologist, I understand the functioning of human body and what benefits and harms it. I see myself as a high performing marketing professional working towards sustainable development.

Q2- Tell me about your internship?

Ans- My internship was on 'Antimicrobial finishing of textiles using eco friendly products'. In this we tested the antimicrobial properties of plant based extracts like pomegranate, turmeric, neem etc. We had tested these products on two different bacterial strains. We also dyed and finished our cotton textiles using these plant based extracts.

Q3- What is anaerobic digestion?

Ans- Breakdown of substrates in the absence of oxygen is known as Anaerobic digestion. Also gave a couple of examples.

Q4- What is taxonomy?

Ans- It is the branch of science concerned with the naming and classification of organisms based on shared characteristics.

Q5- Being a zoologist, which is your favourite animal?

Ans- Elephants are my favorite animal. I had recently read the book ' The elephant whisperer' so I talked about that as well. One of the interviewer had also read that book so we had a long conversation on that.”

Mention 3 reasons why you chose this college over other colleges which you converted (OR if you did not join this college after converting it, mention 3 reasons for not joining it).

Vartika Srivastava: “I had converted NMIMS Mumbai, XIMB, IMT G, IIM Jammu and IIM bodh gaya. I decided to go for NMIMS Mumbai after talking to my teachers and seniors who had done their MBA from prestigious colleges. They all adviced me to go for NM because of the excellent faculty, immense amount of opportunities that NM offers its students to grow, decent placements and Mumbai being the financial capital which was an added advantage.”

What was the reason for you not converting to other colleges?

Vartika Srivastava: “I had prepared really well for CAT, but unfortunately at the last moment I got all nervous and messed up my exam. In CAT 2020, the LRDI in slot 3 was a bit difficult. So I couldn't solve as many sets as I had decided to. This made me anxious and nervous because of which I messed up the QA section. When the results were out, I had done fairly well in LRDI but very bad in QA. So I would advice all the aspirants to trust yourselves and focus on the section you are solving. Once the section closes, do not let your mind wander back to it. Focus on what's in front of you.”
