Date: September 14, 2022

NMIMS Mumbai, School of Business Management (NMIMS - SBM), has been ranked amongst the top 100 business schools globally in the Financial Times Masters in Management Ranking 2022, making a grand debut in the first attempt.

The FT MiM Ranking is one of the most coveted recognitions for business management schools across the world. Introduced in 2005, the Financial Times Master in Management Ranking follows a stringent selection protocol. While an AACSB or Equis accreditation of the school is mandatory to be able to participate in the rankings, other criteria that are considered include the current average salary of the students, their professional and salary progression, international mobility, the number of female faculty, and students in the school, and the quality of the faculty, to name a few. In other words, a management school making it to the Financial Times ranking is a measure of the quality and credibility of the school.

Dr. Prashant Mishra, Dean, School of Business Management, NMIMS University, Mumbai, said, “It is a matter of great pride for the NMIMS School of Business Management, Mumbai, to join the league of prestigious management schools globally. With employability of its students as its core philosophy, the school has always focused on nurturing its management graduates with competitive, challenging and cutting-edge professional skills to make a mark in the corporate world or as entrepreneurs. It is also a proud moment for our country as 7 Indian B-Schools have made it to the prestigious top 100 global list - the highest in the APAC region.”

The career progression for NMIMS students has been identified as one of the notable parameters in the ranking. NMIMS, Mumbai School of Business Management has scored a 52% on the parameter of ‘Salary percentage increase’ in the FT MiM ranking. It is computed by the average difference in alumni salary between programme completion and today. Half of this figure is calculated according to the absolute increase and half according to the relative percentage increase.

As per FT MiM Ranking, 14 out of the top 100 Global B-schools reported that at least half of their faculty were women. We stand at 54% topping this list.

Dr. Ramesh Bhat. Vice-Chancellor, NMIMS said, “NMIMS School of Business Management has always believed in evolving with the times, whether it is in terms of infrastructure, curriculum, pedagogy or teaching, learning methods and outcomes to give its students the best management education. This ranking has added further impetus to the Vision 2030 formulated by the NMIMS leadership team.”

“We are also proud to have the highest number of women faculty across B-Schools mentioned in the top 100 FT MiM RankingThis provides different viewpoints, ideas and insights. The credit for our achievements goes entirely to the vision of our Chancellor, our faculty and staff, who are committed to creating the sharpest and best leaders of tomorrow” he added.

The placement record of NMIMS students in the leading Indian and multinational companies, along with the career advancement of its students and the unparalleled success stories of its alumni is a vindication of the school’s focused approach.

NMIMS Shirpur Campus reduces carbon footprint by 1576 tonnes per year, one of its kind “Green Campus”

Date: June 09, 2022

SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) Shirpur Campus has become one of its kind green campuses with a reduction of carbon emissions by 1,576 tonnes per year. The campus has achieved this by installing a solar plant with a capacity to generate 4 kWh units per day, accumulating 1000 kW of green energy with an average of three hundred days of operations per year.

The Shirpur campus has also set up a rainwater harvesting facility to conserve water in the rainy season for use on dry days of the summer season. Apart from maintaining a high level below the groundwater table, the rainwater harvesting facility also helps irrigate trees and plants, thus reducing dependence on any external water source. Therefore, this rainwater harvesting facility at the NMIMS’s Shirpur campus helps balance the ecological ecosystem.

Dr Akshay Malhotra, Director, NMIMS Shirpur, said, "It is our utmost responsibility to live in a manner that is in harmony with nature. This is especially important during these times, when we have started experiencing first-hand the consequences of global warming. As an educational campus, we feel it is our responsibility that our students live in, and are themselves part of, an ecosystem that is congruous with nature, so that all of them become agents of positive and meaningful change when they head into the outside world."

The green initiatives taken by the campus manifest a true reflection of nature’s friend on the earth. A garden developed inside the campus uses organic manure to grow organic fruits and vegetables. The use of organic manure prevents the application of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, thus maintaining soil fertility.

The organic manure also contributes to improved soil structure, resulting in better water infiltration and greater water-holding capacity leading to decreased crop water stress, increased nutrient retention, and soil erosion.

The campus is a true harbinger of God’s creation of natural beauty. The beauty multiples with the campus taking the initiative of planting 8000 Neem trees in and around the campus. Additionally, the medicinal herbs grown in the Herbal Garden constitutes an integral part of the natural environment and agri-ecosystem.

For managing waste, the campus has set up a Sewage Treatment and Waste Management plant with a capacity of 700-900 KLPD. Additionally, a water filtration plant is installed to extract impurities and fetch pure water throughout the campus.

With a focus on promoting zero carbon emission, the campus has put in electric and battery-operated vehicles for the transportation of students. Compared to the diesel or petrol operated vehicles that emit obnoxious gases into the environment, the electric vehicles put in service within the Shirpur campus help reduce carbon emissions.

Thus, for a brighter future for the generations to come, the NMIMS’ Shirpur campus strives to become the greenest campus in India.

SVKM’s NMIMS School of Design collaborates with the Design Laboratory at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health

Date: May 15, 2021

NMIMS School of Design (SOD), a leading institute for future-scoped design education, has partnered with Design Laboratory (D-Lab), a collaborative initiative by Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (HSPH) aimed at the application of design frameworks and methods to address the behavioral issues influencing public health, for Remember Now, a research project to gather data that can help individuals and organizations prepare better for future pandemics. Fourteen students from SOD’s B. Des. (Humanising Technology) program participated in the study as field researchers, applying remote ethnography methods to gather data about how people are living, learning, working, and playing while coping with the COVID-19 pandemic, and to identify key barriers and drivers of behavioural change that could lead to meaningful insights. The research was undertaken with the guidance of Prof. Manisha Phadke, Prof. Sameer Tendulkar, and Dr. Shreya Maulik, and in compliance with Harvard’s protocols.

The information gathered during the study will facilitate the design of objects, services and environments with built-in abilities to detect harmful pathogens, to support people in their daily lives. Remember Now is one of three projects under the D-Lab initiative, Whole Life: Designing Life After COVID-19, which also includes Sketch Tomorrow, a series of brainstorming sessions that leverages expert experience and data from Remember Now to ideate solutions, and Prototype Future, which aims to plan strategies to implement the ideas.

Prof. Manisha Phadke, Director, NMIMS School of Design, said, “We believe that a designer's primary duty is to produce thoughtful, long-lasting designs that meet societal needs.  As we all are fighting with the second phase of the pandemic, and have no idea how many days or months it will take to get back to some semblance of normal, it is incumbent upon the design community to come together and field the challenge of creating processes, services and products that will take into account the prospect of a changed world and all inherent risks. We are proud of our students for their commitment and diligence towards the greater good, and their single-minded focus on producing research that will power a better future for all.

"Collaborating with the faculty and students of the NMIMS School of Design has been productive and delightful. The quality of their education prepared them to be valuable partners with the 14 other research groups around the world", said Patrick Whitney, Core Faculty, D-Lab & Professor in Residence, Department of Health Policy and Management, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

"When the NMIMS team joined, we knew high quality research would be conducted. As this initiative advances, we look forward to continue our collaboration, " added André Nogueira, Core Faculty, D-Lab & Associate Researcher & Instructor, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health

The research undertaken by SOD students for Remember Now has shed light on the Indian diaspora's diversity of cultural backgrounds and various prejudices. Learnings included the various conditions that influence how people interact with one another, how effectively they are able to adapt their lives to new public health protocols, the various ways people are currently incorporating rituals and celebrations into their lives, and their capacity to revisit various health aspects of their lives.

The preliminary findings have been useful in better understanding how people from various socioeconomic groups and geographic locations maintain their identity, relationships, and contentment during this unusual period. The idea is to use this work as a foundation for improving people's well-being and assisting organizations in positioning themselves better to combat the next pandemic.

NMIMS’ Centre of Excellence in Analytics & Data Science Opens Admissions for MBA (Business Analytics)

Date: November 11, 2020

NMIMS’ Centre of Excellence in Analytics & Data Science opened admissions to its highly regarded MBA (Business Analytics) in Mumbai. Students can apply for the 2-year course till December 14. The course, developed in conjunction with NMIMS faculty and industry experts, is designed to inculcate analytical thinking with managerial training. It caters to the high demand for proficiency in business analytics among management graduates in the current uncertain global economy. The industry-focused pedagogy focuses on providing real-world training through a multi-faceted corporate partnership.

The program is expected to meet the high demand for business analytics in the corporate world. It is one of the few careers which has seen minimal impact due to the COVID crisis. According to one study, business analytics was one of the most rapidly developing domains in 2019-20 with a 19% growth over the previous year. While the current pandemic has caused a contraction of jobs across domains, data from multiple job websites show that business analytics is one of the few job areas that are still in very high demand.

Speaking on the high demand for Business Analytics, Dr. Ramesh Bhat, officiating Vice Chancellor SVKM’s NMIMS, Provost and Dean, School of Business Management said, “Business analytics is one of the few careers that has shown resilience against recession and will see a greater demand as enterprises try to utilise all available data to recover from the downturn. Proof of its steady demand comes from the fact that most IT companies, including TCS, Capgemini, and Accenture are now offering end-to-end analytical services for the BFSI sector. Crucially there is a lag between the demand for experts in business analytics and their supply. As Big Data and analysis grows in significance, the requirement for analytics experts will only grow. An MBA in Business Analytics offers students an opportunity to work in this rapidly growing domain.

Dr. Anuja Agarwal, Professor and Associate Dean MPSTME and In-charge MBA (BusinessAnalytics) explained the program, “The MBA curriculum is designed to help students apply analytical skills to every aspect of business management, including, Marketing, Finance, Economics, Technology and HR. It lays a heavy emphasis on corporate partnerships through internships, roundtables, webinars, and live projects as part of their hands-on training. Students will get multiple opportunities to apply their knowledge to real-world problems through case studies and on-site projects. We have an intensive internship program where our students have worked on real business challenges in the past, adding value to the organization.

To equip students with emerging technologies, the course includes key areas like Information Management, Advanced Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Visualisation and Reporting. As one of the highly sought after management profiles, an MBA in business analytics can open up opportunities to work in the field of business intelligence, IT business analysis, Financial Analysis, Supply Chain analysis, Market Analysis, and business analysis consultant.
