How good is NIT Raipur CSE? Is it better than NIT Jamshedpur or Durgapur?

AC
Abhinav Chowdhury Posted On : March 30th, 2021
Studied at the National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur

Frankly, no. If you want to go for CSE in these three institutions then, the preference order is as follows.

  1. NIT Jamshedpur
  2. NIT Durgapur
  3. NIT Raipur

Let us look at the placements in these three institutions.

  • The placement at NIT Jamshedpur is good. The average package is around INR 8 LPA. The highest CTC offered to the CSE department was INR 38 LPA for the placement drive 2021.
  • The placement at NIT Durgapur is next to NIT Jamshedpur. The average package is INR 5 to 6 LPA. During the 2019 placement drive, the highest CTC offered was INR 32.54 LPA.
  • The placement at NIT Raipur is also good. The average package keeps varying highly between INR 4-10 LPA. The average package in the 2019-20 placement drive was INR 9.5 LPA. However, the coding culture is poor here.

You will not regret opting CSE at NIT Jamshedpur in terms of placement. However, the infrastructure might disappoint you a bit.

How is Mining Engineering at NIT Raipur? What can I expect my starting package to be (roughly)?

SR
Shirish Roychowdhury Posted On : March 30th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Raipur

In terms of placement, Mining Engineering at NIT Raipur is the best in the country. The experienced professors having good knowledge about the subject. In terms of theoretical knowledge, it is the best. But, when it comes to practicals, the institution lags.

The curriculum is outdated; most of the subjects in the course do not have any usage in the practical world. With the fast-moving technology, there is much software in mining which are important but, you will not get an opportunity to learn it at NIT Raipur. You can compare the curriculum across various institutions and find out the difference. This will only make sense after you get placed and work with students from other institutions as well. You will realize that your knowledge is restricted because of the curriculum followed at NIT Raipur.

If your main focus is money, you can join NIT Raipur as this institution provides good placement, Coal India also recruits students from here.

How is civil engineering in IIEST, Shibpur in comparision to NIT, Raipur?

DN
Debarati Nag Posted On : May 15th, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (2019)

IIEST Shibpur is an excellent institute for courses in engineering, especially civil engineering. It is a well-established and well-known branch. There are several advantages of being in IIEST Shibpur and having a degree from the institute.

My brother has studied there and the points below are his experience at the institute:

  • There are excellent faculties in the Civil engineering department, except a couple of faculties who are not that great as evident from student reviews.
  • There are innumerous projects and researches going on in the Civil engineering department at IIEST. The teachers and lecturers are excellent in their guidance for students interested in project works and show a lot of enthusiasm in the same.
  • Above all, IIEST has gained central status a few years back, which ensures the development in research and teaching methodologies even further with time.

Therefore, Civil engineering at IIEST is definitely a great choice for students, maybe even better than NIT Raipur in certain areas.

Why is NIT Raipur considered average?

JS
Jeevan Sharma Posted On : March 30th, 2021
Studied Electrical Engineering at National Institute of Technology, Raipur (2020)

My friend is about to finish his 1st year at NIT Raipur. According to his experience, NIT Raipur is considered average because of the following unfortunate reasons.

Average academics/faculty:

  • Faculty over here is very amateur who hardly care, except a few of them.
  • Also, there are many temporary faculties who have no clue about what they are teaching. Moreover, even the syllabus is never completed.
  • Lab assistants have an over-the-top ego. The whole curriculum you’ll see in the first year has nothing practical in it. Many teachers just read out from textbooks and make you simply copy.

Average infrastructure:

  • It is not up to the standards of a national institute. The recently renovated classrooms are good.
  • However, you’ll find the campus to be really small with only a few gathering points like a central garden, Amul parlour, canteen, etc.
  • There’s a shortage of hostels and if you are from the general category then better be prepared to stay outside the Institute. Providing hostels for only 30% of students, construction of new student hostels are the least of their concern.

Average placements:

  • Despite being an NIT, the placements are in no way comparable to NITs like Trichy and Warangal. You’ll get pretty average packages of 7 LPA in CSE and 6.5 lakh LPA in IT.
  • For core branches, it's worst with branches like architecture having zero placement.
  • Many branches like biotech and BioMed had less than 50% of students eligible and willing for placements. However, there were some off-campus placement packages like 75 LPA and 20 LPA, but it's rare.

Fests:

  • It is the only thing that is somewhat good. They are fully managed by you and your seniors who are really interactive and helpful.
  • Fests promote inter branch interaction and interaction with seniors. Still, you’ll find that college life is not up to the mark.

Overall, NIT Raipur has a lot to improve, whether it is the curriculum, faculty, or the infrastructure. So, don't come here with high expectations as you will surely be disappointed.

How is the electrical branch at NIT Raipur?

UZ
Uzma Zarin Posted On : July 17th, 2021
Studied at Delhi University (2019)

In comparison to the other options, B.Tech electrical at NIT Raipur is the best. One of my friends studied here. According to him, they have a well maintained electrical department.

  • NIT Raipur has a strong faculty profile and a well-designed course structure.
  • Every year, a large number of companies visited for placement with salary packages ranging from 12 lakhs to 4 lakhs.
  • Because of the good course structure, you can do well in the GATE exam, which is a gateway to higher education.
  • NIT Raipur also organizes various competitions, science exhibitions, robotics workshops, etc. This encourages students to participate and stay involved with it.
  • They offer vocational training and internship opportunities.
  • They may not have a good infrastructure but have an optimistic approach when it comes to academics.
  • NIT Raipur might not be good for students enthusiastic about research studies.
Categories Electrical at NIT Raipur
Course Fee 5.40 lakh
Highest CTC 22 LPA
Average CTC 14 LPA
Recruiting Companies TCS, Phillips, Havells, L&T, etc.

After graduating with electrical engineering you can sit for placements for both core and IT companies. There is scope in the corporate sector too.

If you live in Raipur, you can visit the department and speak with Professors such as Prof. Ghosh, Prof. Londe, or Prof. Anamika Yadav.

Is it worth joining mining in NIT Raipur, which I got in 3rd round, in terms of placement?

AD
Anwita Dhar Posted On : April 13th, 2021
Mining Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Raipur (2018)

My very good friend was a student placement convener of mining engineering in NIT Raipur, therefore I have a fair idea about how it works.

Although the intake is 77, which is far more compared to any other colleges, the job opportunities are not enough for all the admitted students. Big brands such as Adani, CIL, VEDANTA do come in for the campus recruitment but they are not sufficient for all and also their eligibility criteria and other requirements do not fit all.

  • CIL: This is a dream company for all interested in pursuing mining as a career. It is one of those rare companies that offer a handsome salary around 14-15 LPA which keeps on revising at regular intervals. One glitch here is that it has some internal reservations and also they prefer only the top rankers in every batch.
  • VEDANTA & ADANI: ADANI is a great company to kick start your career. The eligibility criteria here are also very strict and the salary package is something around average. Nothing too exceptional. VEDANTA is the best option available currently for the students at the institute.
  • Cement Industry & Sector: These are the present manufacturers but are non-consistent and recruit only 2-4 students each year with average pay.

Talk to the seniors in the college to find out more about the actual placement scenario at the institute.

How is NIT Raipur IT branch?

SN
Samrat Nayak Posted On : April 13th, 2021
B.Tech Information Technology, National Institute of Technology, Raipur (2019)

One of my friends pursued Mechanical Engineering from NIT Raipur. So, I know a little bit about the institute. Some of the most promising features I found about NIT Raipur are as follows:

  • The faculty here is absolutely well trained, experienced and attentive to the particular needs of every student.
  • Here you will experience a supportive environment and independent learning culture. A wide range of multiple competitions to take part in ensuring sportsmanship development. Attendance does not impact your marks that much.
  • A lot of internships are offered to CS students in companies like UHG, SORROCO, WIPRO, to name a few.
  • Off-campus placements and opportunities are offered. I know of a handful of students who got placed in Microsoft in off-campus placements.
  • The claim of 100% placement is fairly correct with the average package being 3.5 LPA to 32.5 LPA on campus in companies such as Amazon, Samsung, UHG, Capgemini, Infosys, Wipro, Polaris, and more.
  • The average CPI at NIT Raipur is 9+, thus making the scoring pattern very student-friendly. For all those preparing for CAT, these scores will be very beneficial.
  • The lab facilities available at the institute are quite good.
  • The college also organizes coding competitions and hackathons.
  • It has a well-established alumni base across the country, as a student of the institute you will have access to that.
  • NIT Raipur also offers branch sliding.
  • The closing rank for the IT branch is lower for both home state and other states as compared to CS. However, as a student of IT, you will enjoy the same opportunities as CS students.
  • NIT Raipur has a ‘one student, one placement’ rule. But there’s a team named ‘DREAM’. When the placement average for any branch goes over 75%, students are allowed to sit for dream companies i.e. the companies offering higher CTC.

Overall, IT at NIT Raipur is a good branch, with decent placement records.
