Should I join IIT Gandhinagar CS or NIT Trichy CS?

IIT Gandhinagar and NIT Trichy are among the elite engineering institutes in India. Both of them offer good opportunities for students. According to the NIRF Rankings of 2020 IIT Gandhinagar and NIT Trichy are ranked at the 9th and 24th positions respectively among the engineering colleges in India.

Placements:

NIT Trichy is an old institution and has a vast alumni network which helps in attracting more companies to offer jobs to the students. NIT Trichy had a 100% placement record for the CS branch for the last three years. The top recruiting companies offering jobs at NIT Trichy are Amazon, Cisco, Cognizant, Facebook, Nvidia, Wipro, Tejas Networks, Google, Sandisk, and many more. The average CTC at NIT Trichy was 6.25 LPA.

IIT Gandhinagar is a new IIT, so it does not have a developed alumni network. But still, the placements are good. In the year 2019, more than 70 companies visited IIT Gandhinagar. The highest package offered was 40 LPA. While the median salary for UG students was 7.75 LPA. The top recruiters at IIT Gandhinagar are Flipkart, Infosys, Microsoft, Samsung, TCS, Mediatek, Intel, Technoforte Software and many more.

Fee Structure:

The course fee for B.Tech at NIT Trichy is less. The fees for B.Tech from IIT Gandhinagar is 2.59 lakh per year. Whereas, the fees for B.Tech from NIT Trichy is 1.61 lakh per year.

Research Activities:

If you want to have a future in Research and Development, then IITs would be a better option as IITs provide a better research environment than NITs. Also, for higher studies in foreign universities, the IIT tag gives an extra edge. This is because many foreign universities recognize IITs as elite institutes of India.

Thus, both the institutes have their pros and cons. The choice depends on students which college will be better for their future goals.
