Both institutes are excellent in their offerings. The only choice is based on your choice and interest. Following are the factors that need to be considered before choosing one:
If you are interested in MBA/ Statistics/ Economics/ Mathematics, then you should go for ISI Kolkata.
If you want to work in a corporate job, then IIM Ahmedabad is the best option
If you aspire to do a Ph.D., then go for ISI Kolkata
After deciding on this, you should also look for the location.
If you're facing issues regarding the fee structure, then ISI Kolkata will be a better option. The institute offers a stipend to pursue MSQE. IIM Ahmedabad, on the other hand, has a very high fee structure
Both institutes are esteemed and offer you a dream fulfilled, but it depends on your preference.
Yes, the girls living in the campus hostels are allowed to go out of campus at IIM Indore. Most of the students are adults and above the age of 21. They are considered responsible enough to take care of themselves while going out.
At IIM Indore, the girls are even allowed to visit the boy’s hostel without any supervision or restrictions of time. However, boys are sometimes not allowed to go to the girl’s hostel.
As the campus is situated on the outskirts and is about 16-17 km away from the main city, these are the following ways to reach the main city.
Campus shuttle bus: IIM Indore runs a timely campus bus service outside of the campus. You can look up the bus schedule and plan accordingly. The buses also pick the student at the specified stopping points as per the bus schedule and bring them back to the campus. For availing of this bus service, you need to carry your college ID card as it will be checked at the college gates while leaving and returning. The maximum occupancy of the bus is about 30.
Personal vehicle or Taxi service: The guards will call the candidate and take the details of the vehicle entering. And while going out, the vehicle number and driving license number of the driver will be noted.
Staying past 11:30 pm: The institute provides freedom to their students but also takes care of their safety. Thus there are some time-bound restrictions. For staying past 11:30, you need to take late-night permission from the coordinator of the Student activity council.
The college believes in freedom with responsibility.
Well, it is difficult to try and persuade someone to not join IIM Ahmedabad and join some other institute. But since we are talking about Operations there are some reasons for choosing NITIE. I have a few friends from NITIE and I got to know a little bit about the institute through them. Here is what makes the NITIE stand out.
Mecca of Operations - The tag has value. Many major FMCG or Operations Consulting firms offer big roles in the placement drive at NITIE. The legacy of 54 years does come in handy since many recruiters are from NITIE they come with high and great expectations.
Here is a brief overview of both IIM Ahmedabad and NITIE Mumbai.
INR 60 LPA
INR 50 LPA
INR 14.5 LPA
INR 19 LPA
INR 12 LPA
INR 10 LPA

Amazon, Flipkart, Nestle, ITC, Godrej, KPMG, Asian Paints
Finally, I will say, IIM Ahmedabad has an international reputation and is somewhat perceived as Harvard Business School of India. You may regret choosing NITIE over IIM Ahmedabad later on. So, choose wisely.
It is quite apparent that if you haven’t met people who actually studied in either of these institutions. That’s why this answer is based on my graduation batchmates who successfully managed to secure a seat at IIM Ahmedabad.
Comparing the two IIM Calcutta and Ahmedabad, both the institutions have a big alumni network and claim to be at par. However, that doesn't mean that both are identical or similar because the internal factors matter a lot.
Here are some insights about these IIMs you must have a look at before deciding.
Although both IIM Calcutta and Ahmedabad would have the same curriculum being IIMs, you will see slight modifications in the course structure for both.
You will also notice a huge difference in batch profile which changes each year with the new admission.
In terms of placements, you might find a few recruiters who don’t visit all three institutions, but luckily, most reputed and top-notch firms are likely to visit all of them.
However, you can see a difference in the sectoral distribution of placements.
But the right CV and preparation will help you land your dream job no matter which IIM you choose.
As my friends complete their MBA at IIMA, their amazing learning experience and successful job profiles create an inclination towards IIM Ahmedabad.
Although all three of them are some of the best B–schools in India.
However, in your case, if you want to wait for IIM Bangalore's waitlist to proceed, do check the past years’ records. Check if the waitlists of the past few years have created a huge difference for the waiting candidates. If not, go for any of IIM Calcutta or Ahmedabad without giving a second thought.
The process involving visiting the campus of IIM Ahmedabad depends on the purpose of your visit there. If you want to visit the campus and enjoy its scenic beauty alone or in a group, you can just visit the campus directly and the guard present there will ask for identity verification and once they have verified your identity, they will call and inform the authority and someone will be there to escort you through the campus and brief you about it.
If you want to visit the campus for some survey or research purpose or decide to study its architecture and build then you need to call the campus authority beforehand and get your permission and submit your identity proofs. You will also have to fix the date and time you want to visit the campus. Also, you can visit the campus if you know someone from the campus.
IIM Ahmedabad or even the top IIMs have very strict rules and regulations regarding the admission process. They strictly adhere to these rules. As of now, there is a rule that the average result combining class 10th and 12th should be at least 80 percent (for Science Students) and 87 percent (for Commerce Students).
If you are a general category student then it is less likely that you will be selected. Even if you get 100 percentile in CAT, you will not be shortlisted because of these criteria. However, you have other alternatives such as FMS, MDI Gurgaon, SP Jain, etc. These are some of the popular B-Schools that select students based on their CAT scores.
One of my friends is an alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad and in his batch almost 20 percent of students were freshers. And if you sum up the students with 1 year of experience (who are also freshers by definition) the number will go up to one-third of the entire batch. So, there is a good chance that someone with no working experience can get into IIMA as a fresher.
When you have very little job experience there are some conditions to be fulfilled to get into IIM A. As a fresher, you need to have a great academic history throughout your previous course. Anything that makes you stand out from the rest of the crowd will increase your chance of getting selected in IIM A.
Extracurricular activities or a few state/national awards will make your profile better. If you have a clear advantage in academics and have done well in your entrance exams and GD then you will have higher chances of being selected in the IIM Ahmedabad.
One of my friends is an alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad and many of his classmates were from IIT. He was always amazed by their exceptional mathematics skills. In IIM Ahmedabad there are 3 pure math-based papers and the IITian used to ace those papers.
But my friends also witnessed them struggle with other subjects like Operation, Marketing, etc. So, just because someone is from an IIT does not necessarily mean that they will have better knowledge in every single subject. You will find many people in IIMs who are not from IIT and are great at some subjects. So, it’s on you to find your niche.
A friend of mine attended the interview for the 2021 batch of IIM Ahmedabad. Here is his experience in brief.
Academic range so far- 98.72% in 10th, 97.83% in 12th and 85% in Graduation
CAT score: 99.71
Work experience: 37 months of working under the company- Qualcomm
The interview took place in a video conferencing room. There were two panelists. It lasted for 20 minutes and to my friend’s surprise, it was more of a conversation rather than an interview. He was mostly asked about his job, his published paper, hobbies, and why MBA.
Here are some of the questions from his interview.
Tell me about your job at Qualcomm. What were the skills that you needed?
Is your paper more research based on some sort of survey?
You are good at what you do, so why do you want to pursue an MBA?
What are your hobbies?
They also asked some current affairs questions. Overall, it was a good experience for my friend and he was able to convert.
I know someone who got admission at IIM Ahmedabad and here is his profile.
Work experience- None (0 years)
High school percentage- 91.45%
Intermediate percentage- 76.33%
Undergraduate percentage- 67.21%
CAT score: 98.85 percentile
However, I will advise you to not concentrate on these trivial facts. Prepare well and give your best in CAT.
If you manage to score a percentile of 99, then you can confidently anticipate a phone call from any old IIM. After that, it comes down to the way you present yourself in the GD PI round. That would eventually be your real test.
