Questions Asked On JGEC, Jalpaiguri

In terms of placement, faculty and infrastructure which one is better for CSE: Kalyani Government Engineering College or Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College?

B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, Kalyani Government Engineering College, graduated, 2020

A friend of mine has told me that CSE in Kalyani Government Engineering College is better than that in Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College. It can be owed to the location of both places. Kalyani is an IT hub and it is not far from Kolkata. On the other hand, it will take you twelve hours to reach Jalpaiguri from Kolkata by train. It goes without saying that CSE of Kalyani Government Engineering College is better and obviously more preferred to that of Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College.

The placements in both colleges are pretty much the same. The average package of both colleges is around 3.5 LPA in IT companies. It has to be said that more students get placed from KGEC.

KGEC is the more sought after institute because it attracts the better-ranked students. Most of the students whose ranks are under 3000 are from Kolkata, Hooghly, North 24 and South 24 Parganas regions. The faculty and infrastructure of both institutions are also pretty much similar.

Why should I join Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College?

KH
Krishnendu Halder Posted On : May 5th, 2021
B.Tech in Computer Science & Mathematics, Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College, graduated 2019

A senior of mine also used to be a student of Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College (JGEC). This college is usually chosen when you have not got a satisfactory ranking in AIEEE, IIT.

An engineering job at the conclusion of four years is defined by 60% ability, 30% luck, and 10% other characteristics. Colleges and institutions can only do so much in this regard. So why choose a private college instead of opting for a Government college. This will let you save some money. Some other features are:

  • There is ample scope for you to inculcate in things of your interest.
  • Interactions with the seniors can help you make connections in the future. They are very friendly.
  • You will be dealing with the best of equipment, like sports equipment, etc. Everything is funded by the government.
  • You can also pack your bags and go on a little trip to North Bengal to the hills.
  • The facilities in the college are very good. The workshops and labs are excellent.
  • Books passed down from the seniors would be enough. You will also find books in the library so many students do not have to even buy the books.

Apart from these, the college also holds a fest which is one of the best in North-East India.

Should I prefer IT in IEM Kolkata or CSE in JGEC?

US
Ushashi Sinha Posted On : June 2nd, 2021
Electronics and Comm. Engg. final year

The advantage IEM Kolkata holds over JGEC is its geographical location.

Winner

If you are inclined towards government institutes, JGEC is the clear winner. But, if you are looking for the best institute, IEM is taking home the trophy.

The reasons are below.

  • IEM provides a better educational environment to the students.
  • IEM offers better counseling. Students may get a chance to sit in the interviews of one or more renowned IT companies, whereas JGEC doesn’t provide such a chance. There are rare chances to get other placements after getting a job.
  • IEM gets the location advantage as it is in the heart of the eastern IT hub, Kolkata.
  • The syllabus of IT and CSE is 95% similar. Therefore, there will not be any major difference between the two fields.
  • IEM has also won many titles like “Jewel of the East” by Telegraph, and “Picture Perfect” by ABP Group. It has achieved the best institute of India in Star News Award.
  • The admission is based on WBJEE scores.
  • It has facilities like boys’ and girls’ hostels, a playground, different buildings for different courses, and more.

The placement figures of IEM are:

Average Package

INR 4 LPA

Highest Package

INR 32 LPA

To conclude, IEM is the better choice. The fee of JGEC is less, but IEM offers better placements.

Which one would be better: production in Jadavpur university, power in Jadavpur university, mechanical in Jalpaiguri, or government engineering or mechanical in Kalyani govt. engineering?

B.E Chemical Engineering, Jadavpur University (2021)

Choose the course that interests you, college is a secondary thing. Here are some of the facts that may help you in choosing the right branch for you.

  • If you want to work in PSUs or Govt. sectors, it’s better to not choose Production Engineering as there are fewer recruiters.
  • Jadavpur is the best college you can get through WBJEE. If you choose Production or Power in JU, you will have good on-campus job opportunities.
  • Production Engineering is a branch of Mechanical Engineering itself. The syllabus will be more or less the same.
  • Mechanical at Kalyani University will be slightly better than Jalpaiguri. You may not get lucrative job packages at on-campus placement from Kalyani University but in the long run, you will have a much better hold with your Mechanical degree. You can expect well-paid jobs in the future.

Your future will depend on the branch you are choosing so choose according to your interest. All these Universities will offer you enough opportunities and resources to prosper. It’s up to you to use that well.

Which university has a better campus and better placements - Kalyani Burdwan or Jalpaiguri government engineering college?

SS
Somya Sharma Posted On : October 1st, 2021
B.Tech Electrical Engineering,Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College (2018)

After doing some research online about these institutions, with my limited knowledge of JGEC & KGEC, I am writing this response.

  • Given that they are government colleges, both are great institutes to begin your career.
  • They never promote or market themselves in the way that other institutions might (Return on investment involved).
  • Although JGEC is underestimated because it is located in North Bengal, it does not receive the same level of exposure as KGEC or BWD university.
  • KGEC is known for its technology/IT courses, while JGEC excels in the core departments.
  • TCS is a regular for KGEC in terms of recruitment, whilst CTS favors JGEC.
Categories KGEC JGEC Burdwan University
Course Fee 57.6 K 61.97 K 2.64 lakh
Highest CTC 18-20 LPA 22 LPA 21 LPA
Average CTC 8-9 LPA 9 LPA 8-9 LPA
Recruiting Companies TCS, Tech Mahindra, etc. Accenture, Capgemini, etc. Wipro, Infosys, etc.

Lastly, I can say that you can opt for any of the colleges, it will be a good step ahead in your career. Choose which suits your requirements the best.

SP
Samiksha Paul Posted On : August 24th, 2020
B.Tech from Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College (2019)

Between the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology and Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College, the former will be a better choice to pursue a degree in CSE. As MAKAUT offers better peer group and placement for CSE.

MAKAUT is ranked 157th among the engineering colleges in India by NIRF. The total course fee for B.Tech at the institute is INR 1.9 lakhs. The selection for the CSE program is based on the performance of the students in WBJEE and in 2019 the closing cutoff at the institute was 827-12087. MAKAUT has a placement record closer to 100%. The top recruiters for the institute are Amazon, IBM, TCS, Wipro, Cognizant, Infosys, etc.

How do I choose between KGEC, JGEC and IEM Kolkata?

NS
Niharika Samaddar Posted On : February 17th, 2021
Studied at Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College (2011)

It all depends on the candidate’s decision. What may seem productive for him might fall flat for others.

Here pointing few specifications which might help you choose:

  • IEM is a Private engineering College whereas; KGEC and JGEC are government owned colleges.
  • Annual Tuition fees are far less for both the government colleges and IEM being a private institute holds higher fees and increases cost of living.
  • Being government owned colleges (KGEC, JGEC), the student from financially weaker section is subjected to stipend, half-fees and full fees consideration.
  • If we take a look at the campus location, IEM is situated in sector-V, in the crux of the IT revolution which began at Kolkata. Whereas, KGEC, JGEC have their own campus located outside of the main city.

IEM being a private institution is strict with its studies. But, being government colleges students can see little slack on education in KGEC and JGEC.

If campus recruitment is the sole criterion, then IEM stands out with a virtuous record. Whereas KGEC and JGEC in can see slack in core branches recruitment.

IEM being situated in the heart of the city’s IT sector, all the companies take interest to see the students from IEM. KGEC and JGEC located outside the main city.

If you compare KGEC with JGEC, KGEC is the way to go. KGEC has a better ratio of placements, infrastructure, facilities, and faculty than JGEC.

Choose KGEC if you want to study in any core department. Otherwise you can choose between JGEC and IEM for other departments. If you are looking for government jobs, KGEC is the one. Choose KGEC without hesitation. If you don’t get a chance to get into KGEC go for JGEC as both being government colleges gives less burden of fees and expenses.

Finally, it’s up to you to choose any one among the three engineering colleges. Based on the parameter, it drives your decision. My suggestion would be go for KGEC and if not then, JGEC over IEM.
