What is the scope of Mechanical Engineering in Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai?

AG
Anuj Gupta Posted On : July 15th, 2021
Studied at Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai,Tamil Nadu, India

One of my close friends attends Thisgarajar College of Engineering, Madurai, and here is her insight into the Mechanical Engineering branch.

  • Despite the college being government-aided, the faculty is stellar with really good experience. All of them either have a Ph.D. or are pursuing one.
  • The department has also collaborated with TVS and the courses are now being restructured as per industry requirements. TVS starts monitoring students in the first year so that by the 4th year, they are ready to work there.
  • The labs are also fully well equipped with instruments like UTM, injection molding machines, and CNCs.
  • The alumni network is also quite strong. There are frequent get-togethers and meetings held at the department.
  • The teachers are also well renowned nationally in their fields of work. You will also receive support for higher education from the college for pursuing MS, ME, Ph.D., MBA, etc.
  • Despite the geographical drawbacks, the college has many top companies visiting for placements. But, due to the lack of mechanical industries around the college, securing an internship or work experience may prove to be difficult for you.
  • The courses offered might be a little restricted. Due to this, it might prove a little hard for you to secure a specialization in a specific field.
  • There are also only 120 students per batch of mechanical engineering admitted to the college. Because of this, it is quite tough to find like-minded people who share your interests and would like to work with you.

Thus, despite being a good college, every place has its pros and cons. In the end, it boils down to your interests and if the course curriculum fits your requirements.

BV
Brijesh Viswanathan Posted On : September 6th, 2021
Studied Mechanical Engineering at PSG College of Technology, Tamil Nadu, India (2018)

One of my friends studied in the PSG Mechanical branch. In his opinion, both the colleges are well known and quite famous for Mechanical Engineering. Let me state some facts about them which might help you decide.

  • NIT Trichy holds a certain advantage over PSG.
  • It is considered one of the top 5 NITs. It has earned recognition not only in India but also globally.
  • In NIT Trichy you will get much more opportunities and the proper exposure.
  • PSG is not bad but while comparing it with NIT Trichy, it gets more leverage.
  • In PSJ the faculty members are really good in their respective fields.
  • In PSG students mostly like to learn their subjects by themselves and are independent of the teachers.
  • NIT Trichy has all the things required for such a core branch, like Good faculty members, excellent academics, internships, connection with industries, placement statistics, etc.
  • All this makes NIT Trichy a better option for Mechanical Engineering.
Categories Mechanical Engineering at PSG Mechanical Engineering at NIT Trichy
Course Fee 2 lakh 5.65 lakh
Highest CTC 9 LPA 15 LPA
Average CTC 5 LPA 9 LPA
Recruiting Companies Caterpillar, Bajaj, Nissan, L&T, etc. L&T, Reliance, GE, Tata, etc.

NIT Trichy develops your physical as well as holistic personality. It makes you confident with all the extracurricular activities it has to offer. Nit Trichy would be better overall and will definitely help you grow as an individual.

CSE (with AI & ML) in Manipal University Jaipur or Mechatronics / Mechanical in Thapar University? Which to choose?

AB
Aditi Banerjee Posted On : March 22nd, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

Honestly speaking, both Thapar University and Manipal University are reputable institutions for a B.Tech in computer science. So the decision on which one is better for you ultimately depends on your personal preferences and priorities. is

Thapar University is a highly esteemed, private engineering and technology university located in Patiala, India. Known for its strong academic programs and rich research culture in computer science, this university has it all. Additionally, it offers a range of student services, including career counseling and internships.

Manipal University, on the other hand, is a private university located in Manipal, India. It is one of the oldest and most established universities in the country and is known for its iRobot programs in CSE. The university has a number of student-driven bodies that promote extracurricular activities.

Some factors to consider while choosing between the two include

  • Proximity to hometown
  • campus life
  • Fees and other expenses
  • CSE Program offered

Both the colleges are almost similar in all aspects. So what actually matters is that if you live in the North, choose Thapar but if you are from the south choose Manipal. Both universities have the same fee and both are equally reputed private colleges after BITS. So I would suggest that whichever college is near your hometown go for it.

Ultimately, both universities are highly esteemed institutions and either one would be a decent choice for a B.Tech in computer science.

What are the placement statistics of Thapar university for mechanical engineering?

AS
Aradhya Sethiya Posted On : August 10th, 2021
Studies C.S.E in Jaypee Institute of Information Technology (2022)

One of my cousins is a recent graduate of Thapar University and he does not recommend enrolling at the institute anytime soon. Here is a detailed scenario of his experience,

  1. He was a mechanical engineering student and the university is not what it claims because the placement of the batch hardly even touched the 50% peak.
  2. The quality of education is not as much as students typically anticipate during their course period.
  3. The teachers are not as supportive. If you are not extremely frank with the faculty, you will not usually acquire a decent amount of scores.
  4. It will be better to opt for Jaypee Institute, UPTU, or any particular NIT over Thapar University since the fee structure might be an issue and you will not secure good grades.
  5. The placement statistics of certain technical branches are deteriorating day by day.
  6. However, students in CSE department are still performing decently, regarding both their course and placement.

It is best to still analyze and research more about the prospects of Thapar University.

Is NIT Jamshedpur for Electrical better or BIT Mesra for Mechanical?

BT
Bhaskar Tiwari Posted On : April 23rd, 2021
B.Tech Electrical and Electronics Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur (2021)

You are comparing two different engineering branches which are core and are perfect in their own place. Also, the selection of the branch should be primarily based on your interest and future plans. It is very important you choose a branch of your interest, as you will spend 4 years learning it. So, decide on the basis of your interest.

NIT Jamshedpur is much better than BIT Mesra in placements except CSE. CSE has slightly better placement in BIT Mesra than NIT Jamshedpur but then the gap is decreasing year by year. So, you can easily opt for the choice of field you want.

NIT JAMSHEDPUR

BIT MESRA

NIRF RANKING (OVERALL)

79

38

FEES

7.16 Lacs

12.32 Lacs

COMPANIES

Amazon, Oneplus, Honeywell, Deloitte, Adobe, Maersk and many more.

Taj, Hyatt, ITC, TCS, TCL, Adobe and many more.

PACKAGE

43.5 LPA

51 LPA

Let me give you some details regarding the future prospects in both of them:

Core Jobs:

  • Both the branches have an equal number of core jobs and both mechanical and electrical engineers are needed at any manufacturing firm.
  • So in this case, it primarily boils down to your inclination towards either of the two branches.

Non-Core Jobs:

  • Electrical Engineers also have the opportunity to switch their career to software engineering without much difficulty.
  • Mechanical Engineers generally don't have this Liberty.

Government Jobs:

  • Mechanical Engineering has the highest no. of vacancies in PSUs and Engineering services.

Several core companies come to campus at Jamshedpur in TATA town, TATA Powers and TATA Motors pick many students for jobs as well as for internships. Now, this brings a great advantage for both Mechanical as well as Electrical branch students.

Talking about infrastructure, BIT Mesra has a more beautiful campus than NIT Jamshedpur. If you want facilities, you should go with BIT Mesra. But, placement wise NIT Jamshedpur is far ahead of BIT Mesra, which is again proving NIT Jamshedpur worth over bit Mesra.

Based on the above parameters, you can decide for yourself. Regarding the two colleges you mentioned, both are equally good and have roughly the same student quality. BIT Mesra has an edge in software profiles and NIT Jamshedpur in Core Engineering placements.

Which branch is better at Thapar University - mechanical or computer science?

SC
Shefali Chatterjee Posted On : August 5th, 2021
Studied at Jadavpur University (2019)

Having a friend who graduated from Thapar University and by researching online reviews here’s what I got to know. The mechanical branch is much better than the new branches.

  • Thapar is a private university and there are certain policies they prepare to make money.
  • These fields are kept only to earn enough profits as they charge 10,000 in addition to it.
  • There are more expenses than usual in these kinds of streams.
  • There are also fewer job opportunities.
  • My friend shifted to computer engineering from mechanical in his second year.
Particulars ME CSE
Total fees 13.23 Lakhs 13.23 Lakhs
Placement percent 60% 90%
Highest salary INR 16 LPA INR 25 LPA
Average salary INR 6 LPA INR 6-7 LPA
Top recruiters Ambuja Cement, Birla, Oracle, JP Morgan, etc. Microsoft, ZS Associates, Goldman Sachs, IBM, etc.

So before selecting the stream, give all parameters a thought and make a wise decision. It is suggested that you go for Computer Science rather than Mechanical. There are more opportunities in this field due to the constant demand of CSE graduates by corporate houses and organizations.

How good is Dayanand Sagar College of Engineering for a BE in mechanical engineering?

DK
Dinesh Kumar Posted On : September 23rd, 2021
Studied at Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering,Bangalore

Yes, Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering is good for Mechanical Engineering. Be it faculty, labs, department, infrastructure, branch, or any other aspect, the college is a perfect fit.

The only disadvantage of DSCE Bangalore is that it doesn't provide any offers from core companies. The students of the mechanical branch end up getting a job in the IT sector. If any core job offers are available, these companies will only hire students in single digit.

Companies like Accenture, Cognizant, Infosys, and Tech Mahindra hire students irrespective of the branches.

If a job in the IT sector suits you after graduating from the mechanical branch, then you can opt for Dayanand Sagar College for Engineering as it is the best college. It will furnish a job but in the IT sector.
